In an unusual move, Maestro Zander insisted that Ms. Assad join him and the orchestra on the stage for the premiere performance, to help convey to the orchestra the distinctive character of the piece. “Only someone familiar with the Brazilian-American composer (pianist, arranger, singer) Clarice Assad could have imagined that Benjamin Zander would be co-conducting on the Sanders Theatre stage yesterday with a jazz-dancing, scatting Doppelgänger." -The Boston Musical Intelligencer.

Really nice orchestration. This is different than my normal musical taste but I really like the energy of this piece. I personally liked that the composer took the stage.

It's different because this piece was inspired by cultural musics from the northest of Brazil, that is far from classical music. But as a Brazilian this is really a masterpiece and represents beautifully our culture.

Benjamin Zander is the conductor. He invited the composer, Clarice Assad, to join them on stage for the performance.

Thanks Ben you and the Elves bring a little bit of sunshine into a dark and stormy time....Clarise a little bit of a pre-Madonna your piece is in perfectly good hands with Ben.. I'm afraid you are superfluous and the musicians will only look at Ben you will be a distraction.

It's not clear from this video, but it was actually Maestro Zander who (unexpectedly!) insisted that she join him on the stage during the performance. She made the best of the unusual situation!

@@BostonPhilharmonic I see thank you for clarifying the situation. It's a position I've seen so many times over the years. The power and control.... And it's always the unknown musicians that are at fault. Never mind. Thanks again Elves
