Thank god that this railway line was not electrified, if the poles supporting the overhead power lines would've collapsed then it could've cost the lives of many and a bigger loss to the railway property. And man, look those WDG-4S they were literally standing still and idling

This is one of the most horrific rail casualties involving nature's rage. However, two things drew my attention. Despite all the muck sweeping the whole area, especially the coaches, the locos still stood strong and didn't tip over. And the engines were still humming. Just imagine how powerful the locos are that they stood the test of time despite nature's such ferocious ravage.

One of the most beautiful railway routes I have seen so far, being a tourist. I feel sorry to see this video. Initially I went to Halflong, way back in 1982 and in 2018, I along with my wife went to only to see the rail route from Lamding to Badarpur.

I had to do this route tour on next month and recently got a message from IR about my train was canceled. I was disappointed and thinking what was the cause but came to know and now seeing these makes me more worry about people staying there. Soon Indian Railway to restore as soon as possible.

Old Lower Haflong station has never seen such destruction in 200 yrs of British rule coz that's what the difference. Think again, where r we?

The station (New Haflong) being battered by water flow & mudflow, with a stationary train & engine (in two meter deep soil) buried - is terrible. It might have been caused by very heavy rainfall, far above expectation that was the basis for building this "New Haflong" railway station. The flood & the mud flow buried the name-board of the station (436.30m above MSL) to a depth of 2 m.(at least) leaving only the letters visible. But first, let us have a look at the lay-out of station. It is located between two small hill-ranges in a vertical U-shaped gorge. What is worse, the third (to the south) too, is plugged by high hills - forming a "U" in plan too. I think it isn't a good selection of site for Rly. station. What prompted this site slection? May be nearness to the town, "Haflong" 1km (by way of a meandering road on hills) or so to the west (at a height of 670m). At least the station (platform, with a clock display blinking 17:05 mocking the viewers, should've been raised to 2m, if not more). The station complex -it seems- is totally destroyed. Do the railways order a detailed "inquiry? Only in north, "Dayang"river provides the outlet for water flow. The flow (stream)starts, parallel to station alignment to east. This particular drain should've been widened in keeping with the fabulous Assam rains of annual 10,000 mm rainfall expected at sites. It all points to insufficient data (either unavailable or unused, if available) as basis for lay-out & civil construction. Best would be to see detailed "hydrography" of nearby streams & rivers. If these were studied, the design of the station doesn't reflect it (that could have averted this collosal loss & additional cost of building a new station from scratch). The site selection being bad, brooks no shifting of the station a bit to the north (as south side is plugged, with a tunnel to Silchar passing through). If re-building is inevitable, a wide gully all around it, draining into the nearby river (Dayang) is an absolute must.

Is it to burn off the fuel inside the tank, considering there’s nowhere possible for it go. From the pictures and debris, it seems as if the whole mountain moved and dropped on the poor station. Earlier I used to see chinese highways and railways and found it weird that they are mostly on pillars . Even where they could have cut mountainside. Looking at this devastation, I feel chinese were right in making pillars. Cutting mountainside instead made it weak and may be contributing factor in landslide. If it was in pillars, even a landslide may not be such catastrophic
