100 feathers! Finally! The scene where you get the cape included. Hopefully this doesn't spoil anything.
Protip: Avoid EVERY feather until you have a guide. Don't make the same mistakes I did. :(

Its actually 20 years if you wait until you complete the game. Which takes 1499, Which would make Ezio 40. And the game begins when he is about 17. It's weird because dialogue with the Renovator and Leonardo doesn't change, or at least the greeting dialogue. It sounds like he is 17 again.

Actually, I think this is a rather touching scene. Ezio's mother was in total shock and despair after losing her husband and sons. When people are dealt such horrible emotional injuries, they can react in rather strange ways. She spent the rest of her days in isolation, probably feeling like nothing mattered anymore and that nobody really cared. When Ezio brought her all of those feathers it was a sign that even after all those years, Maria's last son never gave up on his mother. Though it's certainly nothing I would spend +10 hours collecting all the feathers to see. And that cape causing instant notoriety is a rather useless, insulting reward. But the scene with his mother finally speaking is a good reminder about Ezio's commitment to his family, which is really what the story was about at it's core.

Finally finished this yesterday. Usually i'd be pissed off for a bad reward, but the scene with his mother hugging him and thanking him for not giving up on her melt my heart and it was all worth it. When you get to 50 feathers, Uncle Mario comes into the room and basically says he appreciates what he's done to collecting the feathers. He then says that collecting them probably won't do anything. Anyways, he says that there's a new weapon available at the shop. This is how you get the 22nd and last weapon in the game. This is also how to get 100%, according to the Claudia's book.

I feel like the Auditore cape is one of those items thats a tool to be used when its most appropriate. If you are 99% sure you are going to be fighting in a mission then you should put it on. If you are stealthing through it then it has no effect anyway. It also reduces notoriety back down to the level it was before you put it on. Its effectively AC2's version of the cowl of the gray fox from Oblivion.

Losing your husband and two sons at once, (and because of a family friend, no less) is bound to be more than enough to destroy a mother's will to live, but Ezio, being a good son, and a good man in general, finds as many feathers as he could to give to his mother- as a reminder of her youngest child Petruccio.

Actually i do think its a pretty fun reward if u want to free roam and try to survive guards chasing you, it's also useful for the "no-hitter" achievement and the "show your colors" achievement, plus wearing the cape also means that you're good enough to fight through a huge number of guards.

Unpopular opinion but I think the hug is worth it. It didn't matter that the feathers were useless, you were doing it in the hope that Ezio would give a bit of peace to his mother.

Yes! I just finished the game today. After all the credits are over, it'll take you back to that room in the Villa where the portraits of Ezio's assassinations go. You can go look for any feathers, glyphs, or whatever you're missing :)

This item may look like it doesn't make sense gameplay-wise, but story wise it is a cry out of ezio wearing the Auditore cape loud and proud for his murdered family members.
