In this universe it takes place like a couple years after the American Revolution, Haytham was killed, the British Empire is still a thing (as pointed out when Washington made the speech on invading England eventually) and Connor never meets Achilles in this universe because his mother is still alive so he was most likely trained by her. Also Achilles gave Connor that name, yet in the DLC he's referred to as his native name.

Just finished this dlc today,I'd like to think that haytham was an assassin here instead of a Templar since everything was reversed. Maybe in this dlc, haytham was working for the colonial brotherhood with Achilles and even shay, and maybe the colonial brotherhood here was more reasonable. Unfortunately when Washington had the apple he wiped out all the colonial assassins including haytham and shay. I wish haytham was seen in the dlc and was not killed by Washington. I wanted to see him in hooded robes working with his son.

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this DLC, because while I do like the fact that it focuses on what would happen in Washington succumbed to the power within the Apple, it doesn’t carry with it the same excitement or amazement the original game had. There’s just something a bit soulless about it, as though Ubisoft thought it would be a good reason to expand on the story, but felt it necessary to focus on the wrong kind of plot point to focus on. Now, don’t get me wrong, I thought the entire layout of the DLC was stunning, and it plays well as a kind of “what-if” scenario, but I feel as though we could’ve gotten some kind prelude to Rogue as a DLC mission. Perhaps a look at Shay in his early days as an Assassin recruit just starting out, or maybe we could’ve seen Haytham’s story before Reginald Birch and the Templars killed Edward and brought Haytham into the fold. What kind of future did Edward see for his son? And what about his daughter, Haytham’s big sister? Where did her story go and what’s her part to play in all this besides having an Easter egg in Syndicate in the form of the Kenway Mansion, which was awesome by the way.

When both he and Washington found the Apple, they were given the vision. That's why it ends with them throwing it away in the real world. The events of the DLC is what they both see. Thus they decide to get rid of it to prevent any of this from happening. Of course that leaves some plot holes as to why Connor didn't lose his mother when he was young and so didn't become an Assassin, but you can chalk that up to the Apple not having the power to calculate all the variables and present a coherent with reality "what if" scenario.
