I love Haytham and his relationship with his son. He could have killed him straight away but he didn't. Obviously he tried to convert his son to the templar order, but there are so many hints that make me think that he actually liked Connor and didn't just want to use him as an object. The pride that he feels at the end towards his son is real. I love this story, and the fact it reflects Desmond's story in modern days. This game is underrated in my opinion

The Novel pretty much confirmed that Haytham did love Connor, he's the one who saved him from the gallows and there's a reason why the Templars didn't really make any effort on hunting down and killing Connor even after he mowed down their men one by one. Both the Novel and the game also hinted that Haytham let Connor kill him.

AC3 lands in this really awkward position between Ezio's storyline and Black Flag. The former is what many people consider to be one of, if not the best storylines in AC. The latter is probably one of the best ACs in terms of gameplay. Connor unfortunately didn't live up to the standards set by Ezio, and the gameplay aspects of AC 3 were definitely improved in Black Flag. That's probably why it was disliked.
@ryanstaiger1712
@ryanstaiger1712 Жыл бұрын
@@ResurgentRaven I hate that though bc AC3’s story was the most realistic feeling. Connor wasn’t some lady’s man and his motivations felt realistic and relatable for him to want to save his tribe. He wasn’t some badass pirate or a guy who felt super unrealistic in comparison to most protagonists in the series.
@ResurgentRaven
@ResurgentRaven Жыл бұрын
@@ryanstaiger1712 Oh yes, I understand that. And there are a lot of great moments in AC 3 that ultimately inspired AC 4. Edward is, after all, Connor's grandfather. What I like about the games in between Ezio's story and Syndicate is that they all intertwine in some form or fashion (this includes AC 3, AC 4, Unity, Rogue, Freedom Cry and Liberation). And AC 3 imo is one of the more invested storylines alongside Rogue.

@@ResurgentRaven As someone who played through each game when it came out, yeah pretty much. I remembered thinking to myself when I was playing AC3 "This game is kind of tiresome, but at least the sailing bits are really exciting and fun." And then they made an entire game with AC3 sailing mechanics updated and polished as the core feature and I really didn't have much reason to return to AC3 gameplay wise

One detail that always stuck with me regarding the fight at the end : Haytham places his hands around Connor's neck, strangling him until Connor kills him. Yet, if Haytham had wanted to kill his son, all he had to do was use his hidden blades in that moment. For all his boasting and his belief in a better world, I think Haytham never intended to kill Connor. They both had many opportunities to kill the other. Another detail is Haytham's irrational attachment to Charles Lee, defending him to the very end in spite of the monster he has become. Which was particularly odd when you consider Haytham's very pragmatical nature. But the beginning of the game might explain why. Haytham is the one who introduces Charles to the order. He's the one who made this monster powerful and unleashed it onto America, unknowingly causing the death of the one woman he ever loved. Learning about her death is one of the few times we see Haytham truly shaken, which explains his immovable position. Charles Lee was his mistake. One he cannot bring himself to admit or he'll have to face at once all the wrong and suffering he involuntarily caused. One last thing, that explains this strange death of his. He spends all his time with Connor exchanging with him, giving him tasks, helping him mature. If he wanted to simply use Connor as a tool, he wouldn't go to such lengths, putting his own life at risk several times. He wants to ensure Connor's survival, while sharing his world views with him. His last words as they fight is no boasting, it's a warning that the Templars won't die with him. And he slowly chokes Connor to have him learn one final lesson, to be ready to kill whoever would be a threat to him, even his own father. Haytham shows no bitterness in the end. If anything, he's proud of Connor, happy to die knowing he leaves behind a worthy successor, even if they couldn't agree. A long theory, but one that explains quite a few oddities.

@jessebailey5962
@jessebailey5962 4 ай бұрын
@@The-Mad-Doctorit is not confirmed. The only thing confirmed in the book is haytham knew he was going to the fort to fight Connor to give lee a chance. He knew one of them had to die. He didn't let Connor win, he lost due to not controlling his emotions. He had to get so angry and basically shut his brain off to fight and kill Connor. That anger plus Connor hurting him and a cannonball made him make a mistake and he went to choking Connor and cursing him down and Connor the entire fight was telling him to stop they could work together but he wanted Lee dead.

We all hate lee but George Washington was the one who ordered the attack that killed Connor’s mother. The story was just told in a way that we would’ve missed that if we weren’t paying attention towards the end. They also deliberately tricked us in the beginning for storytelling, so that we believed things the way Connor did

Royally screwed up at the battle of Monmouth too. Thankfully John Laurens put the guy in his place after a duel.

@@ghostly1166Lee did attack Connor as a child for no reason and the other Templars mocked him. It’s not brought up enough bc Haytham would have been really pissed off but it’s not mentioned.

@@luke8801true plus even though Charles Lee may not be in involved in the death of Connor’s mother but he still attacked his people and more without Hytham nothing 😪👿

Everybody just giving positive feedback like sheep. Haytham was flawed, he was narcissistic and indifferent towards the suffering of others. Definitely not that likeable as people perceive him to be

True, but the Templars are hard to find enjoyable ones with many just being comically evil, which isn’t a bad thing but it’s still nice to have that minute layer of depth

Haytham was actually a very kind and merciful person (except to the ones responsible for his father's death) at the beginning of the game we play as Haytham who dislikes unneccesary violence and deaths, willing to help random people, is disgusted of Braddock's cruelty against the natives and innocent people. But after going through a lot of suffering, cruelty, and discovering that his whole life is a lie, he became cruel and bitter like we see him post time skip. But even after his heart is hardened, he still couldn't bring himself to kill Connor.

The only reason people didn’t like AC III is because Desmond died and you started off as a Templar. I still like the game minus Desmond’s death.
