When I mentioned Anne Bonny, He turned to me and said "Boy, you do know that Anne Bonny was your 8th great-grandmother, right? I didn't believe him, thinking it was another one of his jokes. Until he pulled out old diaries of Anne bonny's that had been handed down the generations. So, yay one of my great-grandmothers was a Infamous female Irish Pirate!

@@erstenamefamiliename7988 Unfortunately, no. My Grandfather hasn't released and I doubt he'll ever release them to the public. I can tell you that the diaries can be at times very difficult to read as most of the pages have holes in them from book worms and from iron gall burns. It is indeed enlightening to read about her life. However not much about her life is known after her last diary entry. She and one of my great-grandfathers had 2 children together but when they tried settling down, she found it too relaxing and "missed the action". So one day she left and never returned home. My forefather never took another wife("as all other women lacked her fire") and in one of his journal entries he said that every night he prayed for her safety and that Anne would find the happiness that she could find at home. Passed that it remains a mystery. A few members of my family have tried to find out what happened to her, but to no avail. They eventually came the conclusion that perhaps not knowing was for the better.

My grandpa often used to sit next to me as I played games. He would often make comments like "that little dude is always running! Doesn't he get tired?" whenever I played a Zelda game (or any third-person game where you walk/run a lot). My family is Cuban, and my grandfather was an avid fisherman. He used to tell me so many stories about his youth, when he used to go hunting and fishing with his father. Although this was way after the age of piracy in the caribbean, I still remember enjoying hearing the stories of pirates gramps used to tell. He, of course, heard them from his father, who heard them from who-knows-who... Being a fisherman, the games gramps would enjoy the most were those that heavily featured the sea. Oh, he was one cantankerous old person; The kind that sees video games as a waste of time... But oh did he like watching the seafaring games haha... Although he didn't much care for the aesthetic, he seemed to like Wind Waker. There was something about sailing through the Great Sea that felt so good... and I think it connected with him. The swelling, adventurous music, the waves, the horizon. Gramps passed away about a year prior to Black Flag's release and... well... I really miss him. I wish we'd have shared another moment or two talking about adventures in the caribbean. This game always reminds me of him, and I feel like that made the journey all that more emotional to me.

I will never forget the assassin's contract on a small island where you can't sneak up on the target for the intended target flees by ship and subsequent chase. I will never forget it because I chased the target without remorse through the island town. Efficiently dodging every obstacle I actually got to the end of the dock while he hopped on his ship. But I was too late. The ship pulls away from the dock. But you best believe I jumped the ever increasing gap to just barely cling onto the large lantern hanging off the back of the ship. I took the crew out quietly behind him, before slowly walking up behind him and collecting my reward. I tried to recreate it on a second playthrough later. I was never successful. Gonna start playing this again
@FraserSouris4 жыл бұрын
I personally feel BF's only great thing is it's story (It's one of the few AC games to actually explore its protagonist's relationship to the creed, something the devs pointed out), and even then 3 and Rogue outdo it. It's a barely passable game 4's gameplay isn't the best. Combat is the same boring OP instakill stuff since Brotherhood. Stealth in all forms is still basic.The map has far less interesting things going than 3 which had side stories and quests scattered about is cities and wilderness. Sailing got boring a few hours in because it wasn't expanded much. In 3, sailing was a side activity that was occasionally used. So its shallowness wasn't an issue given the brevity and setpieces that involved it. But 4 makes 60% of the game sailing without adding that much to justify it being 60% of the game. Sure, you can sail around and engage in ship battles, but you could already do that in 3. What few additions and improvements 4 added don't add enough to make it interesting. Ship combat is the same dance every time. Even exploration gets boring since all you can really do is sail around to find collectibles rather than actual stories and events. It would take until AC Ody to finally do that and make sailing mechanically more fun. This piece goes into much more detail on the sailing. mieckfram.blogspot.com/2019/06/a-critique-of-ac4-black-flags-sailing.html

When this game came out, I was 19 y/o and just moved out. For the first time in my life I have moved and it was quite a big one. From a small village to a one million inhabitants city. Bad? Hm....just bought it and I would say it is acceptable. Graphics might not be as detailed as today's games, but the art style is really good. What is getting on my nerves is the clunky movement (CTRL+Space = Jump, really?) and horrbile combat.
@deutschvanderlinde69003 жыл бұрын
@@maltimoto Jump is just Space. I dont know how Ctrl comes into the picture for you. Ctrl is almost exclusively for crouch or prone and none of that is in this game. And the combat can be repetitive but I dont see how thats horrible. Hold E for counter and Space for break defense, LMB for attack/finisher. You can clown an entire army with just these 3 keys. There are some pretty cool combos you can do with the 2ndary gadgets but they are optional. If you are going back to a game that came out 8 years ago, and expecting RDR2 level of fluidity in movement then you are just setting yourself up for disappointment

This game will always hold a special place in my heart. I beat it over the course of the only weekend in college I happened to ever have with my roommates away and no class simultaneously for a few days. So I would get stoned, order some of my favorite food, and have this amazing immersive experience playing it in isolation and falling deep into the gorgeous world. And it really felt like the last hurrah of being young. When I didn't have the weight of adult life pressing on my shoulders and always a constant nag in my brain I could be doing something productive, family or work wise, which makes it hard to ever truly just be in the present. The last time I could just let go, and for a few days get completely lost in the fantasy. The story made me cry at the end and I was so into the gameplay I beat all the extra content. Didn't even understand how to use the heavy shot so my ship battles against the legendary ships were brutal. I'm so glad I chose this game to play that time. The story even resonated with those feelings. Wanting to live truly free with no responsibilities but learning at the end it's not a sustainable. Going from being young and ideolistic to calmer and adult. This video truly captured what made Black Flag so beloved by many people. Even though it isn't perfect it's a game like no other as well. And while I find it a bit tedious to replay fully now due to various issues and dated mechanics and graphics, I still love occasionally dropping in to sail the seas with my crew as they cheer when I take the helm.

I can relate so much to what you said about being an adult and playing games verses when we were younger and playing games feels so different now because you can’t ever be as fully immersed in it as before because you know your wasting hours of time that could be put to better use. And even when doing it as a hobby just to relax it never feels the same as when you were a teen/child/young adult. Also btw what did you get a degree in and did you find a job in that field or did you end up in a different type of career? I’m just very curious.

The most intriguing part of Black Flag is its reverse story telling. In all of the other franchises, the protagonist loses all of their valued ones in the beginning of the story as they thrive for revenge which brings them in contact with the Assassin's. Edward on the other hand was the opposite, he had everything he wanted and found more valuable things and loved ones before joining the Assassin's. He only joined almost at the end of the story after he had lost everything. The things he gained and lost during his journey felt all the more impactful.

@unc544 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't get when people say this isn't a good "Assassin's Creed" game. As WhiteLight said, the pirate dream is similar to the Assassin's dream but it is a more corrupted and selfish version. Edward is able to learn the difference because of the time he spends with the pirates and assassins and it is integral to his character development.
@e.corellius44954 жыл бұрын
i think its all a matter of preference. having played every game in the franchise, my favorite games in the franchise are the least assassiny ones, because 1.i hate FORCED stealth and 2. the whole creed part of assassins creed is really dumb in my opinion. "nothing is forbidden and everything permitted" nonsense... why keep saying that if its a huge lie and this is really just freedom versus order? i absolutely loved black flag because, well you're running around being a pirate, not some morality murder police. i loved odyssey your a merc in the middle of a massive war, and dont even have the dumb edge lord assassin blade. they are great. revelations was the best of the ezio trilogy because it ended with him going "man screw this assassin stuff.... i quit" heck i liked 3 because connor tended to just charge into the fights rather than sneak around. i guess what im trying to say is that the "assassin" stuff i feel is gimmiky nonsense getting in the way of my universal studios theme park ride through a historical period, lol. whereas other people probably have the very opposite opinion, they love all the edgy assassin stuff, so their least favorite games are the same ones that are my favorites. i mean im well aware that most people disliked 3, and odyssey got rather mixed reviews. so if they say "black flag is not a good assassins creed game" its probably because you spend 95% of the game as just a pirate, and its far more character focused than about the big templar=bad assassin=good conflict and reasons like that. which is coincidentally the exact same reasons i love the shit out of it. make sense? or did i ramble too much? lol
@NewAtlas99874 жыл бұрын
E. Corellius Your good man, everyone has there opinion. I love the stealth and the story’s. The kenway family will always be my favorite cause of how they were both brought into the creed (and a son who who was brainwashed into the order). Syndicate and unity also being favorites cause of the story’s. I played origins and odyssey both once and hated them. Not even gonna touch Valhalla. Some people like just killing in historical periods. And there’s people who love the older games because of a good story and the hidden blade.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood will always be my favorite. While Edward is a good character, his story lacks what Ezio excels in which is motive. Like you said, he is a drunkard and his wife left him, inspiring his sea travels even further, but Ezio was a true assassin. Ezio's story started with him being a young, dumb idiot just like Edward in AC2, that is until he watched his whole male family die in front of him because of the Templars. Ezio first took on the Assassin mantle because he was seemingly forced to not only to protect his family, but to avenge his brothers and father. Through most of the start of his Assassin journey in AC2 Ezio travels throughout renaissance Italy, which by the way is another plus to me because Italy in my opinion is a much better setting than the Caribbean, and he meets multiple secretive powerful figures that teach him the ways of what they are best at; La Volpe & Theft, Paola & Blending, Bartolomeo & Fighting, ie. Throughout AC2 Ezio is using each of these teacher's guidance to track down members of the Templar Order along the way and also finding many secrets. The revenge story mixed with the unprecedented guidance and maturity of Ezio makes AC2 my 2nd favorite game itself. Before I go into AC Brotherhood though, I must mention it is slightly unfair to compare 2 games to 1 but AC Brotherhood isn't nearly as good without understanding AC2 which is how it is meant to be. Anyways, when Rodrigo Borgia escapes in AC2 and it is revealed to Ezio that the people who have been mentoring him have been secret assassin's along, it becomes clear that the story is far from over that game ends with my favorite part of the series introducing the Isu and their connection to the World. AC Brotherhood takes what AC2 did well in terms of story and character and does it better. It begins with Ezio escaping the tomb where he discovered the Isu and realizing he allowed Rodrigo Borgia, now the Pope, to escape. It takes another step when Monterrigioni is attacked and Uncle Mario is killed in order for the Apple of Eden to be stolen by Cesare Borgia. Another plus to AC Brotherhood is the villain/Templar tree excelling. Ezio ends up in Rome where the majority of the story takes place and while I must say it is less diverse than the first map or BF's map, it is a perfect fit for the story. In Rome Ezio has to regain his ability after being severely damaged in Monterrigioni. Throughout the game Ezio not only aligns with new people who teach him even further, but he slowly takes over the city of Rome from the Borgia's. This concept really helped the game excel in my opinion allowing you to revive shops and businesses that had been shut down by the Borgias and earn revenue from these places. Not to mention collectibles and side objectives weren't obnoxious like they are in many games including BF. Ezio also discovers secrets of the city that help inspire mini plot lines that earn you unique armor and rewards. Not to mention, the innovation of the combat system introducing new weapons and techniques such as the crossbow made the game much more new feeling. Lastly, the character development, setting, and combat are all great, but the story is what gets me the most. You get to watch as you slowly cause mistrust and betrayal within the Borgia family and get to finish the main villain, Cesare Borgia, in quite a poetic way. Overall, AC Brotherhood is the best in my opinion because it's plot line is almost flawless, it's villain tree is extensive and deep, it's combat and parkour are excellent, and Ezio's character is brought to the climax of his life. He starts as a young, foolish man seeking revenge and this game finishes with him as a middle aged, mature and skilled assassin who now leads the Creed. Not only is his character amazing in that sense, but it does set up AC Revelations which brings his character from young and foolish to the complete opposite. Like i said before, it is unfair to judge 2 games vs 1 but those 2 games could basically be put together as one bringing Ezio and the plot line in full circle from revenge to maintaining what he has fought for all those years.

I couldn't agree more with you on this! The Palm trees, the sand, the vegetation that covers the ground, the lighting in the jungle, and not to mention how ripply and reflective the water is. All of the textures have an amount of detail that holds up to even today's standards. I particularly like the "water drops on the screen" effect when you dive in the sea or are sailing in a rainstorm. This effect is really well done, I think. It bends the light in a realistic way which adds a subtle amount of depth to the interface. And I must say, the lighting in the game is something I noticed especially. I remember this one time I was sailing west from Grand Cayman, and it must have been the dawn because the whole atmosphere had this misty glow about it which lasted for little while before breaking into daylight. Not to mention the cool god rays you get when sunlight finds its way into a tunnel on Great Inagua or Tulum. I seriously can't fault it. Aside from all my praise for the game's forward-thinking graphics, I have a bone to pick with some funky geometry. I noticed this primarily on structures. For example: -The parts where round things like sticks or posts look like they're glitched into whatever they're attached to -Any rope that's wound around anything wooden (jungle structures, masts, docks) is a polygon and not a circle -The climbable trees are distinct, rigid 3D polygonal shapes with texturing to make 'em look like wood -The ends of boards and planks are always clean-sawn, perfectly flat planes. You don't get to see any roughness in them. -Rain effect on the ground shows up below thatched rooves Other than those things, ACIV graphics stay remarkably strong seven years later. I'll be sad when the day comes where my new video game X is indisputably better than good ol' Black Flag!

This video had me laughing at myself because I remembered I went the whole game not knowing how to use a Heavy Shot or even know it existed. I used to consistently get pissed off because the enemy had this amazing mechanic that I couldn't use, lol. Something I only learned very recently, Holding the key usually reserved for "Drop" when on a ledge while running toward something you could vault over, has Edward actually vault over it, which is something the game does not tell you at all as far as I know, it's just something you have to figure out. I only did it by accident cause I was playing Unity before and it didn't hit me until a little while later that I did that.

I was too young to appreciate the story but the gameplay really made up for it. The badass finishing combos, chains and counters, met with the incredible naval combat leads to a game I still come back to today on my old Xbox 360. The exploration was amazing too, uncovering smugglers dens and outposts, forts and caves. Watched the whole video mate thanks for making my day

The first time I saw this game was at my friend's house, when he was showing me his new Xbox 360. I was fascinated by the graphics and the freedom of an open world game of such a scale, because the only games that I'd played up to that point were Nintendo DS games and a few old PC games such as GTA Vice City and Counter Strike: 1.6 Needless to say, I kept on going back to my friends' house to play the game, and we'd often stay up till 4 in the morning, trying to beat the game. I found that I was more adept at the naval battle sections, while he was better at the combat and stealth mission segments. Our favorite sea shanties were "Leave Her Johnny" and "Roll Boys Roll," and we'd often turn the shanties on and sing along while we travelled from one island to another. This game, in turn, introduced me to the Assassin's Creed franchise, and I was absolutely obsessed with the games for a very long time. (Around 4 years, I'd say) The stories about a grand international conspiracy containing a feud between two shady, illuminati-like organizations blew my mind at the time, and the freedom of movement and exploration was like nothing I'd ever seen in a video game before. Needless to say, I had an extremely limited knowledge concerning video games at the time, and playing the AC games opened up a whole new world for me. After my friend moved away, I went to the game store to buy every Assassin's Creed game that I could get my hands on, starting from Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, 2, Black Flag, and Rogue. My potato laptop at the time could only run the more recent games at an average of 20 fps, but I still managed to play through the games without much difficulty. I became more and more obsessed with the franchise, reading into the lore and the story of the series and drawing fanart, making hidden blades and constantly talking to my friends about how awesome the series was. I remember this one time I dismantled my mom's kitchen knife and built a functioning hidden blade out of a few pieces of cardboard and hot glue (Well, I say 'functioning' but what I really mean is that it could be activated with a string attached to a ring), and my mom got so angry that she threw it away as soon as she saw what I was playing with. It took me a day to make, and it was beautiful, and I was pissed. I also remember begging my mom to buy me an Edward Kenway cosplay, but it was extremely expensive and I eventually had to settle for an improvised hooded cloak that my grandmother sewed for me. I climbed walls and trees wearing the hood, and it was extremely fun to have swordfights with sticks with my friends in my backyard. After moving away from my old home, I got a new laptop and access to better wifi, where I also discovered the existence of Steam. I bought the Assassin's Creed games again, including Unity and Syndicate, which I hadn't gotten around to playing. Much to my dismay, Unity was extremely laggy, even on my new laptop, but Syndicate was more playable. After I'd played all the Assassin's Creed games over and over (Excluding Origins and Odyssey, as they weren't out during that time), I eventually moved on to other games like CS:GO and Dark Souls, but Assassin's Creed was ultimately the catalyst for my interest in gaming, and still has a special place in my heart. I'm sorry for the long comment, but seeing an Assassin's Creed video in my recommendations after all these years just gave me a little trip down memory lane. But if anyone actually reads this, I just wanted to share my experience with the AC franchise, and I'd love to hear your stories as well
@arkanxtango4 жыл бұрын
I first played this on the 360 about 7 or 8 years ago id say, and it is still to this day one of, if not my favorite game I have ever played. Aside from the issues with the game (which I don't think ruins the game,) it is definitely the best pirate games ever made and one of the best games of this generation, in my opinion of course. To this day I still remember every word to leave her Johnny and often catch myself singing it when I'm down, or when I'm relaxing. I've played this game a countless amount of time over the years and have bought it on every console I have ever owned, and I still can't get over the fact that the only game that comes close to this game after all this time is kingdom come: deliverance, which I recommend you play. I will always hold this game close to my heart, and hope that another game comes out that I can love the same way. Wow. I'm kinda sad now, well anyway, cheers mate!

I have deep interest in history and the games just emphasized that with the conspiracy plots and sci-fi. The only difference is that I've played origins and odyssey. Odyssey is very different and you wouldn't like it, but you must give origins a shot. My childhood was awesome playing these games and I hope you continue to find joy in gaming. I am SO HAPPY that you kept the whole ending scene uncut. It's too perfect to change anything. I remember when I got the the end, after everything in campaign I worked hard through, everything I collected, explored, fought, discovered, and experienced in a story and world full of such memorable and strong characters, througth many adventures that felt like you actually went through a lifetime. After everything I had witnessed and experienced in this game with Edward, to be in that moment, it was the perfect kind of closure we needed after everything we've done and learned. Pure ambience of a simple Caribbian bar, broken over with the singing of a lady, soon followed along by the harmony of a few other instruments. You look across the view of everything, and see the friends and loves you've lost, having a good time. They may be gone, but they're there. You then travel down the path, eyes following the arrival of your daughter's ship. Caringly picking up some flowers along the way to welcome your daughter, whom you've never thought you'd get to meet. The look of joy on his face when he sees her escorted up, and hands her the flower, as a kind and loving father, who finally gets the second chance he needed. Fading to black, music rejoices. I'll never forget that moment EVER. THAT is one of the MANY reasons why Black Flag has a special place in my heart. PS: Let me know if you read this, WhiteLight.
