Great video Mr Donlon! I was wondering if you're open to suggestions could you do a video on how historically accurate Red Dead Redemption 2 and or the towns in that game are? If you know about the wild west
@misterdonlon3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a ton! I would love to make some analysis videos on RDR, those games are incredibly well researched and have a lot to say about the Old West. There's a few historians like myself that have some content you might be into: kzbin.info/door/Rs7bArNhJ9-8ry_BEqmKSQ is a good friend of mine, he's got some great videos!

"Historical Perspective and the Song of Roland," by Kyle Glenn Cunningham**
@connordrew26343 жыл бұрын
@@misterdonlon that paper says nothing about whether the Crusades were justified. Even if it did, what gives Kyle Cunningham the authority to determine whether an event was justified? What gives any individual that authority?
@misterdonlon3 жыл бұрын
There is a whole section on connecting this mentality to that of the Crusades, so the argument is definitely there that this is more of a holy war than it is a response to Umayyad aggression in the 8th century. Just historians out here using the tools at our disposal.
@connordrew26343 жыл бұрын
@@misterdonlon I agree that the crusades were a holy war. I would even agree that the crusades were largely influenced by the Roman church's desire to increase their influence in the east relative to the Orthodox church. But an individual could easily still believe that the crusades were justified even when viewing the conflict through such a lens. It was jarring to hear a subjective statement presented as fact when considering the purpose of the video. Connecting the Song of Roland to the crusader ethos was fine but the rest of the statement should have been omitted or at least tempered by saying something like "it is questionable whether the crusades were justified".

I totally see your point. My statement did come off as being rather pretentious and unsupported. The goal was to point out the way that the textbook can have a problem with certain narratives; like "the concept of chivalry always leading to something good". However in my criticisms of a one-sided viewpoint you are absolutely right: I gave a very one-sided statement and unsupported statement. I appreciate the feedback as always!

Any recommendations for what I should do next? Only thing imma say no to is the Witcher... Because that could take me the rest of my life to research. Actually, even that, I could be convinced.

Fantastic video which offered great insights. I am pretty sure Hugo, the narrative lead, confirmed on Twitter that the songs in the database were taken from the lyrics of an actual historical poem. Here's the tweet! twitter.com/HugoShelter/status/1392939410736418824?s=20
