What if whoever the person is we are taking perspective from is one of those sponsors to the Initiates (in-universe). They did say the Initiates they had the odd billionaire as a supporter.

Yes, the Initiates were founded by one or two billionaires. However this was the first person view (I guess from a camera) from Juhani Otso Berg, former special forces military of Finland and here Abstergo Initiate in the Animi Training Program. He later went on to be a Templar Master and leader of the Sigma Team squad paramilitary.
