For all intents and purposes, the Assassin's Creed mirage will be the last Assassin's Creed. At least... as we know it. It feels to me like next year will be one of colossal change, one that will come with a lot of good and a lot of bad. But, regardless of what next year holds, it is clear that Mirage will be that last TRUE stand-alone assassin's creed experience. AC Red will kick off the AC Infinity platform, a live service hub with all the future games of the franchise, in which any hopes of a conclusive storyline can be thrown out the window.
Next year begins the infinite churning of games that cannot possibly sustain an intriguing overarching plot. That plot had already been skinned alive multiple times by the entries after Black Flag, but I was excited to see Valhalla do the impossible and reinject it with stakes, intrigue, and lore-accurate resolutions to decade-old threads. I am excited to see how they carry this on in Mirage, but also sad that I know this will be the last time we will probably ever hear from Basim, or we will ever know about the modern-day plot's new urgent mission.
This is why I say AC is limping to the finish line. AC Mirage is the last AC game that will be part of the old version of games, which was released independently, had an end, and no infinite live support. I fell in love with that type of game, and it is sad to see how the last three entries have been desperately trying to satisfy everyone and ended up pleasing no one. I envision Mirage crawling on the ground, trying desperately to do what its teammates behind it didn't do: give a meaningful send-off to the old version of the Assassin's Creed franchise.
In this video, I play as the last three protagonists in the style that I find most immersive, trying to do what I can to make these games feel like Ac games. The first one is easy, Aya herself takes over a fort in silent style using sleep darts, one bow, and her hidden blade. Then we have Alexios, in my usual proto-assassin build that fuels the head-canon I have of this Greek proto assassin that found one or two ISU artifacts in his hunt for early templars. Finally, Eivor plays him as a heavy Viking assassin who hammers through this French fortress with unstoppable ferocity. Incorporating brutal kills into a pure stealth playstyle is how I find Eivor most immersive and most convincing as a Viking assassin. Enjoy!
Assassin's Creed Mirage is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game will be the thirteenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
