Okay, heres one for all you dorks who won't shut the hell up about Unity. I know about unity. I have played the hell out of unity. I bought unity day one just like i did with mirage. And i defended unity when everyone else was trashing it on launch, just like i am with this one. Chill the fuck out, theres room for both games to be fun. I like the new system in this environment. Unitys system is barely any less automatic than this one, its just flashier. I dont know when everyone started simping unity but i will also add that unitys parkour is desperately inferior to the ac1-revelations system. You can find proof of that on my channel as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIG0lp-dlL1jfNUsi=5TEPWRqFU6nVPbw6 Here's a nice unity video i made. Enjoy.

So for those confused as to how the parkour works, AC stopped using animation canceling system since AC Rogue. It's a system that's more in line with conventional platformers. It's why you can do things like manual side ejects easily in AC1-AC Rogue. For AC Unity and beyond, the parkour system functions on an animation priority system. The key to knowing how parkour works in AC Mirage is knowing the priority system of the animation for parkours. Consistently pulling off side-ejects in Mirage means knowing what allows side ejects in the first and place and setting yourself on the fly to allow it to happen.
@robertjv9 ай бұрын
I knew that after ac revelations
@177SCmaro9 ай бұрын
Which is really limiting. It feels like your fighting against the system and winning a cool looking animation Unity forward as opposed to AC1 and the Ezio games were it feels like you're working with, directing, the system to pull off something cool.
@runbaa92859 ай бұрын
@177SCmaro yes, it is really limiting. Unity's system would have benefitted from being mixed together with the old system's animation cancels. One of the biggest problems with Unity's system was also that there were SO MANY animations that the animation priority system often confuses itself on what you want to do. How the parkour system worked in AC1-ACR is actually almost like how a fighting game combo works. Certain actions allow you to cancel into different inputs, and the animation it cancels into will depend on your input and the result. For example, in Street Fighter, Ryu will always be able to cancel the animation of his heavy punch attack into a Hadouken fireball attack during its active frames. The same principles apply in older ACs, where if Ezio does a run up the wall, he will always be able to cancel the animation of his wall run into a side jump during its active frames. AC Unity until up to AC Mirage largely ditches that in favor of an animation priority system that prioritizes smoothness and spectacle, which is closer to games like Uncharted, but on steroids in the case of Unity.

It's the Level Design that is GREAT, the actual parkour mechanics are still the same from the last 3 games. There is still very little manual control, and the ejects are still just contextual. But because of the way denser level design, the game essentially lets you do more ejects cause it thinks it's safe to do it.

@Ropotopolous9 ай бұрын
It is unreliable. What works best for me, like for example at the beginning of this run right when I get to the top of the wall i let go of everything for a split second then quickly press the direction that I want to go and x (parkour) or o (drop down) at the same time and he will usually hop down. You want to make sure the ledge you're trying to side eject to is below you. Back ejects can sometimes gain height but side ejects always drop down a bit.

the ejects barely have any height gains so you can only kinda reliably(kinda) "eject" downward sideways, also it is understanding the layout or level design/animation priority which will allow to do cool parkour stuffs, not mastering the movement or anything like old games (AC1, ezio trilogy) cuz the parkour here is too contextual and dont allow absolute player control over Basim, compared to Altair,Ezio who were input sl@ves and allowed 100% player control over their every action/maneuver/animation etc. you dont master the movement, you just get better at dealing with the surroundings/level design/parkour objects

im having the hardest time switching from parkour down to parkour up for vaulting it was really consistent to use parkour down to vault in valhalla and odyssey and now it seems more consistent to just use parkour up instead
@DEADEYESSS9 ай бұрын
Parkour down hasn’t been really any use to me, and when it should be Basim usually climbs down rather than jump down…Other than that I do really like the parkour though 🤠
@kingicarus3379 ай бұрын
what im finding out right now is by using parkour down you will consistently vault but youll always end in a crouch and if you vault using parkour up you end up standing so i guess it is good specifically if you want to vault to a crouch@@DEADEYESSS

The parkour in this game reminds me of the parkour from Infamous. Just jumping and latching onto whatever is closest to you like a magnet. There's barely any "climbing" in this game. The free running is pretty decent though, except for the occasional gravity defying 12 foot jump across a gap.
@caimanaraujo4799 ай бұрын
A horizontal 12 ft jump is not unrealist, parkour people have done bigger gaps than that. The more unrealistic one would be the 12ft vertical gap between two ledges, that one would be the impossible one.

Definitely an improvement on the last 2 ac’s but even that’s not saying much. My favorite parkour system is definitely Unitys even though it definitely gets clunky and glitchy at times. and honestly I think I enjoy it so much because of controlled descent which I don’t really see it being talked about as much anywhere. It’s such a major feature that actually makes me feel like I’m in more control as well as making parkour feel more fluid going from point A to B. I revisited the originals not long ago and the descent is just barely better than it was then so adding that at least from unity I think would be a big change especially if they actually have time to work on it
@goxfal30369 ай бұрын
I recommend changing the controls from pressing the joystick to run to hold the right big bumper to run. It’s so much more smoother. For me at least..

Its not that the side ejects were bad in valhalla - origins its just that the buildings there werent focused on parkour. But i think ill get this game when its 2 dollars.
@theMrTJF9 ай бұрын
I couldn’t stand the parkour in this game. Then I realized my main problem was the controls. Changed the sprint button from L3 to RT like the old games and it helped me a lot. The parkour is pretty hard to control still compared to the accuracy of unity. But it works for Baghdad pretty well.

I don’t know if it’s a bug with my download or what, but Bassim completely loses his momentum (sometimes just stops running completely) after certain animations. I didn’t care much for Unity but the parkour was the thing I’ve always loved about it. It was new to have a way to free run down and up and Arno felt fast, fluid, and I felt free to run any way direction and angle I wanted. Mirage is dope so far. Bassim moves naturally and moves connect nicely but for me the only thing keeping it from 10/10 is just bassim losing his speed and how annoying it is to do side and back ejects. If it wasn’t for the map I think this system would feel very rigid and controlled where as AC-AC Rogue you could move any way at any point regardless of the animation.

Animations don't look as good as Unity but this is a big step up since the RPG games. The world and improved mechanics allow the parkour system to be actually worth spending the time and effort to master. This isn't the AC we really want but it's slowly heading there

Why is everyone so obsessed with parkour? The story is what matters the most. The parkour is only cool cause of the story. On the first assassins, parkour was awesome cause of what you had to do IN the story. 🤷♂️

The Parkour is alright, still doesn't beat AC1-Revelations, or the Kenway games for that matter. In regards to those who say "Unity's Parkour was great", it was good but felt extremely automated, and you had no control over your movement most of the time, it was far more flashy and trying to look cool, rather than precise and methodical.
@Happy2BHere9 ай бұрын
The increased speed has done so much for the traversal, mix that in with the environmental design, the parkour in this game is a joy🥹. Obviously there’s been better, but with the limitations of the system this is a step in the right direction

In order to build a great parkour system, you need a combo button system. Example you run, you see a fence, you press the parkour up to get over it, and as you are mid air you press the parkour down making your character leap above it and continue to run unlike older ac where they climb on it to jump afterwards, this gives you more choices and fluidity. Then you just need to take some things from the ezio trilogy like breaking an animation in half to perform a different move. Again thats kind of a combo.. and lastly a PoP wallrun but realistic .. you shouldn't go across the whole wall.. 2 steps and if you dont jump youre off thats what will work. Fluidity, and freedom. Animations are fine tuning. Last thing mirage to my eyes is better than unity. I dont get what you guys like about unitys parkour, its the fakest of them all, the most inconsistent, it works when it wants to, removes all choice of movement, by automating everything, just to give you a basic parkour up-mid-down, with flashy animations. i swear its skyrim all over again.. (if you dont get the comment about skyrim, just read about daggerfall class building then skyrim)
