Odyssey’s interpretation of Ancient Greece is so nauseatingly colorful. Remember when you went to Greece for one of those Naval missions in Origins? It looked just like one of those old renaissance paintings of Greek Myths. It was dripping with atmosphere and a sense of believability as a place. Meanwhile in Odyssey, I NEVER felt like I was in a real place, something that Origins managed to accomplish effortlessly.

well another thing Odyssey throw away is the tomb's designed, compare to the pyramid in Origin, all with it own design and challenge, it even make me feel like something gonna jump out at me anytime i enter one of them but Odyssey's tombs are all the same thing and instead of come up with some puzzle, they just throw snakes in there with bunch of spike trap that completely pointless. I pretty much just run as fast as i can to get it done for the skill point.

I literally thought the same exact thing when I inevitably KZbin searched the ending of odyssey, (because ofcourse I refused to buy this imposter of a game.) I was in such disbelief I gave them the benefit of the doubt assuming, oh it's the "bleeding effect" finally something familiar but no. It was real and it was garbage. I even went to watch the ending of revelations afterward to remind myself of golden times. Even though the ending of odyssey was like the next level in terms of bonding with the ancestor of you can even call it that I guess, it was leagues behind that pivotal moment of Ezio accepting his fate and speaking out to the phantom who he only knew by name. I think that even just the barrier of mortality being between both Ezio and Desmond made the moment so much more epic. I still get chills just talking about it and especially rewatching it even in this day and age causes my eyes to water a bit. But that's when I realized, that game despite being nearly a decade behind in terms of technology and graphics had more impact then this modern next gen story made me feel nothing. I never thought I'd play an AC game that's story made me feel nothing. I still wonder if I'm even awake right now. But I NEVER EVEN KNEW about those Ten Commandments. That makes it all the worse. God. But Thank you for sharing your input. I always value it very highly. So I agree. This is not an Assassin's Creed game and it's why it's the first game since Brotherhood I haven't bought and pre ordered the collection edition for. So I agree 100% that this isn't an assassin Creed game. However, it simply can't be anymore. After unity and syndicate people got tired of the formula which you read in this video. The franchise was dying and could have been killed off completely. The point of origins was to reinvent what a AC game was, and it did. And because of that people loved it. Odyssey was to continue the changes origins made, and it did. The 10 commandments you read can't be used anymore because the series was reinvent in 2017 because of franchise fatigue.

@andrewbarro95066 жыл бұрын
@@memecliparchives2254 No. Odyssey builds on what Origins was. It feels more of the same because that's simply how game development works. Origins had 4 years to create something new and we're successful, however Odyssey had 3 years, but that's not entirely bad. They used assets from Origins so they didn't have to reinvent the wheel twice. Games take a really really long time to develop. Look how long it takes rockstar to come out with a game. So in order to push them out faster they reuse assets and build on top of that. I believe Odyssey may have taken a different approach to the series as a whole, and they definitely gambled on it, but it should be praised for trying something new. Not everyone is gonna like this approach, but that doesn't matter because what they looked at was sales of unity and syndicate. If they stuck with that and kept pumping games out in the same manner, sure there would have been the hardcore base, but obviously that base wasn't large enough to hold the franchise afloat. Odyssey apparently sold the best on this console generation so far, so I feel like they are doing something right.

It was so gimmicky though, IMO the Cult would have been replaced by the order of ancients. Having so many different shadowy organizations is getting tired. Instead of getting an origin story about the assassins brotherhood this game should've been about the origins of the Templars and how they took root throughout the world. Anyway I feel like AC games should be more like guided story telling that you play through (like GOW) so that it follows the commandments directly because that's what made the original trilogy with Ezio so good. It was excellent storytelling that captivated the audience who experienced it. Giving the player major choices in someone memory that you shouldnt be able to change is B.S even if its fragmented DNA it doesn't explain the modern day protagonist scene with the staff of Hermes.

It answers the question "What was happening before the Assassins and Templars were first established?" and that's how it should be looked like. It shows us a time where someone from the bloodline somes to the realisation that there is a group trying to control the people, and that should be the main element of every Assassin's Creed game.

Well because at least Rogues character Shay Cormack was an assassin at first then changed to a Templar. Unity had the love interest and father figure be a templar to show how not everything is black and white when making decisions. AC3 you play as Connors father who is a Templar. It is not a problem that you are not an assassin because honestly, you can be either assassin or templar. Its because it has nothing to do with what came before. Nothing about assassins or templars just some side quest in a DLC that explain the hidden blade. Wow so CoOllll.

To me, the Big Reveal exposition in the end of the Cultist storyline is where Odyssey finally fully links into the Assassin's Creed lore with a strong implication that the protagonist has been a central and pivotal figure in all events between the past and the modern day. The big problem is that Ubisoft's writers fumbled the ball in making this sufficiently clear and not requiring a huge amount of player interpretation.

I really appreciate your views and opinions following the assassins creed legacy and everything involved. However, I've noticed you've become very biased in the way that you judge the franchise, savagely critiquing the smallest details because they haven't given what you, as a fan, want. Which is fine, it's natural to be disappointed by what a game offers, especially when you've come too expect the most from the series. However, it's counter productive too judge the individual game by itself if you're going to compare it too the rest of the franchise anyway. That being said, there are a plethora of connections drawn between Odyssey and prior games. It's a story diving further into the mythos of the first civilization. Ubisofts 10 commandments for an assassins creed game were created for the Brotherhood, not for mercenary descendents of the Isu before the Creed existed. As a dedicated fan myself, I'm grateful that Odyssey takes even more steps too further expand and progress the lore and world of Assassins Creed, even if we dont have a hood or hidden blade. Even with the plot holes and inconsistencies. After all, most of our actual history is shrouded in much of the same. We've had protagonists that are Assassins, and some that were Templars.. why not the Isu.? I do enjoy your content, just wish you'd be a little more open-minded sometimes. Can't wait too see your reaction too the next game

+Yo Momma Shows how much you've played the game, because regardless of the lore, (which is still upheld) the gameplay and story and its writing are the best it has been for a very long time. The story is the best since revelations, and gameplay is the best it has ever been IMO, and according to a vast majority of reviews a lot of other people's opinion.

+Yo Momma first of all I finished the game and I only saw the store about 80 hrs in the game, and you know why? Because of the bullshit some reviewers are spewing about the grind. They might have a review deadline, nobody else does. The game wasn't meant to be rushed through it, it was meant to be played by partaking in the countless other side activities simultaneously, it can hardly ne defined a grind.(And this is a fucking huge RPG for god's sake, you should know you are in it for the long haul if you buy it.). There is nothing wrong with having a few micro transactions in a single player game, if it is not pushing you towards it. Odyssey doesn't. Second, this carries the MD story forward in ways that it hasn't gone in 4 games. It provides a connection to origins before it and to the games following it. Unlike the standalone Assassins vs templar battles in different settings that was boring everyone to death. And this game focuses on the First civ (a main pillar if the franchise) a hell of a lot more than any of the previous games. In other words this game is more relevant to this franchises overarching story and future than all the games since black flag.

Odyssey is a great game. Its is (with RDR2 and God of War) 2018 best games of the year. You really do overthink this. Sales numbers prove that most people think it's the best AC. If it continued to be a vintage AC it would have been discontinued as a franchise and you'd be criticising the lack of creativity. 😐
@strangebrw16 жыл бұрын
Im glad they are expanding the universe and direction. If they strictly followed the 10 commandments you would get the exact same game over and over reskinned which is what was the past criticism. The worst thing the franchise did was to get too bogged down into strictly adhering to only doing specific things and having a linear forced narrative. Odyssey is close enough to be AC and far enough to be an enjoyable change. The best things about Origins had nothing to do with the main story, and that is pretty much true for most of the best games in the franchise. If a strict lore cant hold up past the 3rd game its time to move on rather than get stuck in trying to tick certain boxes, otherwise its just the same game and same story over and over and over.
@strangebrw16 жыл бұрын
@Yo MommaI literally never said BF and Odyssey were reskins AT ALL, that was more aimed at ACII, Brotherhood, Revelations etc which is the games everyone keeps going back to as the pinnacle which was 3 full games in a row with the same character, same engine, same gameplay and almost identical locations. There is a big difference between utilizing background Lore and sticking to a specified formula. Sorry its confusing for you. The 10 commandments are not Lore, its formula guidelines and all I am hearing is complaints the "formula" is not stuck to. And using phrases like a developers 10 point guideline from 12 years ago, 11 games into the series, as the "ULTIMATE AUTHORITATIVE PROOF" is literally the saddest thing a fanboy can do.
@strangebrw16 жыл бұрын
Yo Momma I never said BF and Odyssey weren’t great games despite their deviation. They along with Origins and Syndicate are my favourite in the franchise and only Syndicate out of that lot would be said as a rehash of the earlier style. And was trying to point out that sticking to the “10 point formula” doesn’t guarantee a better game. And no it’s not the ultimate authority on anything the owners of the IP can literally do what they want with it. And doesn’t make sense why you are still arguing that the series should stick to the guidelines when u have highlighted some of the best games already part of the franchise didn’t. You can keep the spirit of the originals without going along with every restrictive dot point. The commandments are badly written anyway. No developer would use that language as base development requirements to be met. Still don’t know why fans are using it as “proof” of an argument that doesn’t make sense using evidence which is outdated and currently worthless 11 games in (considering they ditched it over 5 years ago)

Since they did orgins, they couldn't really do anything Greek timeline wise that involved the assassins and templars since they wouldn't exist for another 400+ years. So storywise it makes sense why the MC kills people too since hes not apart the ethos of the brotherhood. EDIT: I know that this comment is really long and probably nobody will read it... I agree on many things, but there are some points that I disagree with. The thing that Assassin's Creed lacks in comparison to Witcher is the quality of the side-quests/writing, but I think that it would be ignorance to not acknowledge that the writers for Witcher have more opportunities for good variety since they can add a magical twist to things. But even with this there is not excuse for weak quests. I think they should have put in less quests with more effort put into them. Longer side-stories which are not just 10-15 minute distractions. I think they should have waited with the release until at least early 2019. I think that only exploring time periods with Assassin's and Templars is very restrictive. Look at the sanctuary in AC2, most of those people are not actually assassins. Should we never have games that revolve around/feature them? I think that would be a missed opportunity. No Babylon, on Persia, no ancient China. I think that it is a good idea to explore other setting in the AC universe.But if they are not called actual AC games what should the name be then? The AC universe has no specific name to use. Would it have been better if the name of the game was Odyssey an Assassin's Creed story? Or Odyssey a story set in the AC universe? I mean was there any doubt that in the "normal" sense Odyssey is a spinoff? Because I looked at it always that way. Still I really liked your review and I respect your opinion.

I really appreciate the way you did this video, and you make a lot of good points. However, some things of note with the 10 commandments you mentioned. Most of them the player could choose to follow. I for example, never kill innocents. It's all about what you as a player choose to do. Which I think is exactly what they were going for. I understand why a lot of people could say it isn't an Assassin's Creed game, but in my opinion they're just choosing to not make it one, yourself included. This isn't meant as an insult at all. I totally see where you're coming from and understand why you feel that way. I simply think you're incorrect and holding yourself back from enjoying something and acknowledging that Assassin's Creed as a whole has simply changed. I like to think of Odyssey as a sort of spin-off prototype for what AC has become, and I really really hope that the future involves more RPGs based directly on the Assassin Templar war. Hahaha He just said that Syndicate is better than Odyssey. You are out of your mind. Odyssey is phenomenal. Im greek and I loved it. The amount of research Ubisoft made is out of this world. The game is excellent. Deal with it haters

I never said Syndicate is better than Odyssey. I never compared it to any other AC game in terms of it's quality.

@@LazerzZOh then I understood your I ntro in a wrong way. Even though I get what you were trying to say with that whole 10 commandments section I have to say that we can accuse all games of the series in the same way. Not just Odyssey. Sure the apple isnt a magic item but then again Rodrigo Borgia was able to create phantoms of him self physically attacking ezio. Ezio did the same thing. I do agree that odyssey doesn't feel very "assassins creedy" but every game suffers from the same problems after AC 3. Odyssey is an assassins creed game in the same way Black flag is an assassins creed game. As the Assassins vs Templars strugle. I really believe that many people understand allready that Assassins and Templars are just the modern names of the same ancient forces who battle each other. Freedom vs Opression. The names are different in odyssey. Not the nature of the "struggle " just because they arent called Templars or assassins that doesn't mean there werent people who expressed them selves accordingly. I really think that you are very knowledgeable when it comes to assassins creed. I love the series but i do think that yoy will agree that what the game really needs is a proper and cohesive Modern day story. we have to blame the toxic kids who were complaining about modern day for its death. The core of the story was nodern day and the real protagonist was desmond. Every game after Ac 3 tried new things and explored different themes. Im okay with that as long as it makes sense

The movie was actually pretty enjoyable, better than most video game movies, they probably wont make another but it could have been a cool trilogy. Overarching stories don't go well past 3rd installments anyway.

I love Odyssey and genuinely love all the other A.C. games. They're not perfect, that would be virtually impossible to achieve. However, the countless hours of fun I've experienced says they're perfect for me. Keep up the good work Ubisoft.

Till Rouge I have enjoyed all of the games especially assassins creed 1,2,3,4. Now it feels like a joke I watch videos and reviews about it, it's just not what it used to be. Odeyysey is really just a hard turn about being an assassin. There was goose bums when u played assassins creed 2,3,4. But now u only feel like skipping some stuff. It used to be like a very addictive drug, play and finish it whenever u got time, even if the story is finished I feel like to max out everything and finish it completely. But that's again just not the case now. Ubisoft for God's sake put a bit of ur passion and skill into the next ac game.,we always hope "OK this ac game was a bit shabby but the next one will be great, that guarenteed". Somebody plss make the ac games better... Who will hear us?

@@loreseeker6604 He was saying Ubisoft lost its spark and what made the other games great and well received. They stopped caring. This person wasn't whining they were voicing their opinions on a game series. This person wasn't writing an essay telling Ubisoft to improve certain gameplay aspects and stuff which is what you want, they were saying the newer games lost their spark and that Ubisoft need to listen to is and actually put CARE into their product. And that's valid.

Dont LazerzZ knows that in the options that he can just take away all hints, question marks, or any type of help so it can feel the way he wants it. I say stop complaining or join/apply to Ubisoft to make AC better. Also, Ubisoft did attempt to make AC: Unity a full RPG back in 2014-15 if I remember correctly but as an app game on your smart phone.

Ubisoft should’ve just cut the ten minutes of real world animous stuff in Egypt and Greek and the sync reference stuff and call it a new tittle

I think you could have seen those rules by other point of view. First of all, the 10 rules were written by a Dev team more than 10 years ago. The changes for the core of the franchise can change, but anyway, let's use them but analyze by other point of view 1. Assassin’s Creed will always tell the story of the secret war between Assassins and Templars The name of the franchise is Assassin's Creed in singular as in the Creed (the system of beliefs) of an assassin (which could be a person with a mindset of an Assassin, who lives by the motto "Nothing is true, everything is permitted") and not plural like Assassins' Creed as in the Creed (brotherhood) of Assassins. So, if the story tells a story of a person who has a mindset of an Assassin and how his beliefs are formed and/or changed, it could be a candidate for a proper Assassin's Creed story. The war between Assassins and Templars could be interpreted as a war between Freewill vs. Control. It doesn't need to be the exactly organizations of the Assassins and Templars. 2. Being an assassin doesn’t make the main character a ruthless killer. He kills, but he has principles and never murders innocents. He avoids collateral damage as much as possible That is a thing that Ubisoft didn't abide, but you as a player could choose to abide. It's not because you don't get a desynchronization because collateral damage that you couldn't do it yourself in the game. It's not like the game is unplayble unless you do collateral damage. And in addition, since you are an "Assassin" by being a person that favors freewill instead of control, but not a member of the Brotherhood of the Assassins, you could be more "flexible" on collateral damage. 3. The war between Assassins and Templars is the foundation of our Franchise story in the past and present Like point 1, the war between Assassins and Templars could be easily translated by a war between Freewill vs. Control 4. The Assassin should always be agile, socially skilled, unbeatable with a blade, and a stylish bad-ass. For what I've saw on Odyssey that item applies, even without social stealth. In past games, I was killed by a lot of enemies that wore blades when the fight was rather difficult. I had to use the win button of smoke bombs so many times to avoid being killed in a sword fight. 6. History should always be portrayed as relevant to our core audience, with facts that tie in to present day common knowledge and edgy modern Art Direction 7. Assassin’s Creed is based on Technology - Nothing is Magical, Everything has a plausible technological explanation. 10. Assassin’s Creed can bend Historical accuracy but cannot create an Uchronia. All those itens are criticized in Odyssey because of Mythological figures being portrayed as real. But assuming that in AC Lore there's a lot of First Civ laying around in the world, wouldn't be logical that a lot of things that we considered as myth and fantastical would have happened as real things fueled by First Civ tech? In the AC Lore there's some examples like Jesus using a Shroud of Eden to perform his miracles. Why not Greek Mythology? About Pegasus and Unicorns, I think it would be considered more as Eater Eggs than anything else, like when you wear an outfit of a previous AC character in a recent AC game. 8. Assassin’s Creed is about digging in a character’s past through their DNA in order to understand what really happened in key historical moments. In previous games you didn't WATCH the ancestor memories, you played them. And as you did that you changed a lot what REALLY happened, even in key events like major assassinations. Even with the Synchronization bonus in later games, you could choose to kill major characters in previous games in a variety of ways and every player did it differently. So, if this was OK for previous games, I don't see a big difference when you choose dialog. If it was OK to choose course of action, why not dialog? I think in Odyssey they bend the concept a lot to justify the gender and dialog choosing but it was a plausible explanation. But the core remains. You are in the present trying to unfold a hidden fact in the past by PLAYING an ancestor memory through a memory SIMULATION. In that simulation that fact would be revealed and you would attain your objective. It doesn't really matter if you PLAYED the simulation exactly as it had happened, only if the way you PLAYED helped revealed the hidden fact you were aiming to unfold. I didn't play Odyssey yet. I'm making this observations by seeing the promotional materials and reviews alone. When I played I will have a more substantiated opinion. Maybe this game really doesn't feel like an AC game. But I think it's not because it didn't follow this 10 AC rules.
