It's insane to me that Ubisoft decided to put the first black protagonist of an AC game in Japan instead of somewhere in SunSaharen Africa. So many kingdom and cultures they could have based it around. Hell, they could have pandered by setting the game during the colonization of Africa and had the MC running around killing slavers. They would have had way more support and could have shed light on a timeperiod that isn't mentioned in schools except for a few lines to a paragraph in a history textbook.

heck they coulda went for modren... maybe even near future and expanded on their own world if they wanted to go ahistorical. coulda had real fun with it too breaking out toys that are darpa's wetdream's. just to mention darpa has made some crazy shit such as "smart" bullets called exacto if i rember right litteral bullets that change direction mid flight with an unknown guidence system. even exoskeletons... so the ac bs drops and takedowns can use those as an excuse as for why a modren/future person can not only perform near or flatout superhuman feats and can take some punishment but also include a power meter to limit it a bit. add nuralink to the mix and have the exoskeleton somehow synced to the protag with a mmi conected to the nuralink device and you have an excuse to buss in almost any skill by making it software... with filesize limitations of course. heck darpas even working on reversable gene editing tech, seriously these guys are modren day wizards.

I just played Metal gear rising for the first time this year and I fell in love with it. No modern game has grabbed my attention and adoration like that. I guarantee everyone of us missed out on some great games between 2000 - 2015. Just go back and play the ones you missed and indie games. Even though Outer Wilds was a bit woke with the pronoun stuff, I really enjoyed my time in that game. There is a dearth of sincerity and genuine care in almost all western corporate entertainment these days.

Before Blizzard he worked in the gaming industry for years, going way back to working on games such as Tony Hawk Pro Skater One and the first God of War. The reason he quit is because the HR Lady demanded he work on-site, which would mean he'd have to drive 2 hours instead of working remotely since nearly all the people he worked with were not even in the US. So he told the HR Lady _"FUCK YOU, I'M OUT"_ to which afterwards the Blizzard chiefs called him directly and begged him to reconsider, at least stick around to train the new hires which consisted of fresh college graduates who didn't know anything and Blizzard didn't have anyone experienced enough to take his place. He refused and ultimately parted ways with Blizzard. Aside from that story, he'd share many stories with me on the shit-show that is the gaming industry, including the college grads 1) checking off 'boxes' 2) pushing 'woke' garbage and 3) be far more concerned with throwing pointless parties (go figure, college kids still acting like they're in college) than actually doing their jobs. I say "pointless parties" because they'd party before the numbers officially came for the games OR they'd focus only on certain numbers that shouldn't matter -- again, validating the story Endymion said about 'toxic positivity' plaguing the studios. And of course as we all know what happens when people throw parties: some drunk horny scumbag starts trouble, hence it was only a matter of time until Blizzard found itself up Shit Creek in Scandal Territory. When all you do is programming, you don't need to be in an office where you will be talking with other people. Which is not productive because you are talking and socializing and not working. So if I clock in 9 hours, and I spent 5 hours talking and socializing with other coworkers, is that productive vs I work 9 hours at home and clock in 5 hours and 4 hours playing with my pet. Which is better? and I saved 2 hours from not having to be driving. There are various benefits, the only true negativity is people that owns those offices doesn't get their office space rented. It's not only because of SW:O. Prince of Persia was solid, but overpriced for this kind of game. XDefiant was solid, but no one asked for another CoD Service Game (via UPlay). Skull & Bones was horrible as expected. Avatar was actually solid, but it came far too late after the movie and I doubt they overestimated the interest in that "franchise" (or what they try to make out of it). Assassin's Creed Mirage was solid, but also felt heavy overpriced.

The saddest part is that making Yasuke an important NPC questgiver would've been narratively incredible. He could've been an Assassin agent on site, inserted under cover as a slave by some of the Western Assassins, using his position as a retainer to gather information on the local politics for the player character to act on. There could've been some great sequences where he does fight alongside you later on in the plot, allowing him a time to shine as a badass. Use him right, and he could be a character players look forward to see, but this? This ain't it.

My idea was that he could be an NPC in the game; like Da Vinci, Socrates, Herodotos, Ben Franklin, etc.; but narratively he is the one who brought the Assassin’s Order to Japan and caused the birth of Shinobi. @@tenkmusou542 If you pick Male Eivor the game pulls a fast one on you as it is later revealed he's basically an animus malfunction and you were playing as a woman the entire time, just with a male "skin" on top. The game rarely uses pronouns to refer to the character, but when it does, they are female. There are also documents where Eivor's surname appears as Varinsdottir (daughter of Varin) no matter which gender you pick.

For any1 still in doubt about Ghost of Yōtei, they replaced the dev team who made Ghost of Tsushima by an entire dev team full of women (and yes, you guessed it, it's full of coloured hair, shaved on the side, nose piercings type of women)...it will be a woke fest. They've been using this tactic for a while now, they reel you in with the 1st game and then dump all their woke bs on the 2nd game, TLOU > TLOU2, Spider-Man > Spider-Man 2, Horizon 1 > Horizon 2, GoW 1 > GoW 2 and many more that I can't recall rn. Ghost of Yōtei won't be any different.

I'm a woman and all my favourite AC games had male protagonists. I care about a fun character and gameplay, particularly how stealth is implemented. I don't care about the identity of my character. I'm with you on going back to old school AC. Even the stupid tailing missions are more fun than the forced all-out RPG brawls the newer games force you into.

I'm a middle aged female geek and I don't want this, so it's definitely not for the audience. It's just so weird though. Even as a guy, why wouldn't I want a badass, dark well-produced witch game? Done right, there's such a huge potential for something amazing there. You just have to keep "the message" the fuck out of it, and tell amazing stories by amazing people, letting their imaginations come to life. That's literally all. But if it's soured by the political landscape and I know the reason they made such a game in the first place is just to ensure my white ass is deleted from entertainment, for how long am I supposed to endure that, smile, appreciate and encourage it? I'm just tired of constantly being vilified, stomped on, disrespected and told to crawl back into my little box, really. I appreciate games and entertainment that focus on other people and cultures, but I'm just tired of the hypocrisy. Ubisoft never listened to real fans. But in their minds, they were like Mohammed Ali in the 70s and Rosa Parks in the 50s. They thought they were these social justice trailblazers. For the record, they were getting a lot of good ideas frok the fandom that they never gave a shot. For 12 years now i would have liked an Assassins Creed based in the fall of Tenochtitlan and the beginning of Mexico City and the player was this half Aztec half Spanish warrior who fought against the templars.
