I think a solid point to make is that Ubisoft is purposely picking marginalized characters in an attempt to be tokenistic. Why does Ubisoft make a story about the Sengoku period of Japan, which was wars fought by 99.9% asian men, have to have gay african man and a women liberate Japan, it is like it is trying to check boxes, not actually give an interesting story. I think what Ubisoft is doing is an attempt at hiding their incompetence at writing and if you question it, you are suddenly blanketed a racist. I get it is alternate history, and I can see where people just think it is not that big of a deal but I think this is too far. I mean, could you imagine the outrage if in "Black Panther" the new leader of Wakanda was a white guy who saved the day for them? People would lose their minds, and I would sit to agree with them.

in that same breath you have to acknowledge other savior tropes that do exists in all forms of media of an outsider saving a group of people native to an area. You can't cherry pick here as an instance of where it doesn't apply and you choose to ignore every other rendition of it.

However what Assassin's Creed Shadows is doing is certainly an example of writing token characters simply put there for the sake of checking a diversity quota. I believe we should judge based of character and not the color of your skin.

They had the chance to explore a mysterious shinobi/ninja from the same sengoku era, Just like what they did with jack the ripper in Syndicate. But no, you play as a known black SAMURAI where "Everything is permitted" and "Hide in plain sight" tenets don't apply. He can't be from the hidden one/assassins brotherhood.

@@NoobTerritory No, but the fact that she is there is not a problem for me, they could put her or not put her. 1 As I said before female warriors and ninjas existed, so it's historically accurate. 2 Even if it wasn't historically accurate and Japanese warrior women didn't exist, she is part of the assassins, an imaginary group in a realistic universe, which therefore can have very different rules from the local culture, which happens in practically all assassin's creed, with female assassins (and even templars) despite the chauvinist culture
