I really hope that playing as Yasuke or Naoe offers completely different experiences. With Naoe, you'd need to use all the stealth techniques and tricks, while Yasuke would be a tank, plowing straight ahead without letting anything stand in his way. I can't wait!

i would have preferred having yasuke be a character you interact with rather than play as, considering he's an actual historical figure. pretty sure this is the first time they've made an assassins creed game where you don't play as a made up character interacting with influential historical characters.

@@sofajockeyUK I know and love history, especially if a fellow Scot in involved. Re-writing history by laughably suddenly trying to change wiki of all places doesn't debunk actual facts that Japan awarded two outsiders with that honor of samurai with it being an English and Scotsman. Yasuke wasn't even in Japan for any real length of time either :-)

@@SamM_Scot Assassin's Creed is a series about a powerful precursor race with super powers. It is set in varying historical time periods and takes liberties with historical figures for the purpose of the story. If we were discussing a documentary I'd have sympathy for concerns for accuracy but in this case the 'controversy' is fuelled by nothing but bigotry and deserves zero respect.

Because blackwashing history is just as wrong as whitewashing it. Yasuke was no Samurai. He was a slave brought to Japan from India by Jesuit missionaries, before meeting Nobunaga and becoming a crude novelty item to him because he thought he was dyed a darker color than everyone else. Dude only spent less than three years in Japan, and only 18 months in Nobunaga's service, which is nowhere near the time needed to actually train someone as a Samurai, which was not just about skill as a warrior. At most he was an "advisor" to Nobunaga. Once Nobunaga committed suicide though, he was unceremoniously booted from Japan and forced back into slavery with the Jesuits in India. Dude was not a samurai. He was not a major player in Japanese politics, beyond being a novelty item to Nobunaga and called a literal monkey by his detractors. He held no lands, led no men, and the only time he's recorded fighting is after Nobunaga's death, when he fought with others to protect Nobunaga's heir.

Just foolish bigotry. On the plus side, the amount of promotion the game is getting is intense. The launch will be huge.

@@ericharrison7518u just did what u said they did. He was brought in by the Portuguese 😂 not india. And it was no longer a slave but a retainer with the given title of samurai. Tho he didn’t do traditional samurai things he was given that title had a blade and it was believed he was given a house n salary. He was never confirmed dead nor captured. After Oda died it’s said he fought with his son and that’s when he got sent back into slavery. But even that is not 100%. Get ur facts straight atleast man. Leave politics out of games we have a Japanese girl. Why is it hard for u to play with a black or a women. Plus calling him a monkey shows ur colors lol. He was never called a pet either

@@onlyenzoYT You're parroting pop culture bullshit that has only been around since the late 1960's. Yasuke barely shows up in the historical record, with a scant few sentences of primary sources actually mentioning him. Yes, he arrived in Japan as a slave accompanying Jesuit missionaries from a parish in India. No he was not granted the title of Samurai. Ever. Period. Not a single solitary primary source ever describes him as a Samurai. That whole argument is done and over with. The only people pushing it are either unserious and/or have a political agenda to push themselves. Nor was he given a "blade". He was given a dagger for self defense, and was allowed to stay at Nobunaga's properties, plus a small stipend to cover his expenses. That categorically does NOT mean he was a Samurai. Jesuit Missionaries were allowed to carry short blades for self defense, were allowed to actually *OWN* property, and several were remarkably close with Nobunaga. Does that make them Catholic Samurai? No. I keep seeing this whole, "Yasuke carried Nobunaga's swords" fairy tale, yet nobody can ever point to a primary source that says Yasuke was allowed to carry anything other than Nobunaga's "tools", as the Shincho Koki states. Even while in service to Nobunaga. Yasuke was still referenced as a slave, as shown when he surrendered to a retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide, which was recorded by another Jesuit Missionary and written down in his annual report on Japanese affairs. Let me help you with that. "A black slave whom the visitor sent to Nobunaga went to the house of Nobunaga's son after his death and was fighting for quite a long time, when a vassal of Akechi approached him and said, "Do not be afraid slave, give me that sword", so he gave him the sword. The vassal asked Akechi what should be done with the black slave, and he said, "A black slave is a bestial monkey and knows nothing, nor is he Japanese, so do not kill him, and place him in the custody at the cathedral of Padre in India." But sure, I'm sure your pop culture history is more relevant than the actual primary sources. What makes this whole thing even more pathetic is that the entire *IDEA* of this guy somehow being a Samurai comes from a children's book written in 1968. I would say it's a joke, but the fact that so many are running with this shows how easily the historical record is manipulated with and distorted with intentional disinformation.
