A full summary of the Assassin's Creed Valhalla story. While the plot of AC Valhalla is very long, I explained the entirity in under 35 minutes. I recap every aspect of the story, from the vikings, to the modern day, which seems to finally be going somewhere... #assassinscreedvalhalla #assassinscreedvalhallastory #baranesen

My situation exactly. Got tired of the raids not even halfway through. The map didn’t have much variety in landscape either unlike Odyssey and Origins. But the story was intriguing to me, especially Basim.

Even as I was writing the script for the video, I noticed that, but I wanted to keep it that way because it’s genuinely how all over the place it was as you said. All the stuff that should have been side content was compulsory, and that took its toll on the story.

It is all over the place. There are so many parts of the main story that should have been side missions, but Ubisoft decided to make the main story as long as humanly possible without a care for how it flowed.

The ball was dropped in the first 10% of the game. The idea of having different kingdoms, different quest lines, and individual mini campaigns that play out like a TV show is a fine idea, but you have to get us connected to the characters and establish a clear overarching journey that we can thread the needle with. The way they did it, where each kingdom sort of rolls into the next one because of happenstance or some forced piece of scriptwriting… that’s not a hero’s journey. It’s just a bloated and meandering collection of arbitrary moments that got us to the story climax by chance.

This is another case of Syndicate where the previous release was better 💀. I personally find Odyssey's story more interesting, understandable, and smoother. Where in Valhalla I just feel like everything is being thrown at me all at once.

I completely understand what you’re saying, but personally I prefer Origins out of the most recent trilogy. Even though Odyssey had a more concise story, it lacked any sense of an Assassin’s Creed plot which both Origins and Valhalla had. Origins was interesting, concise, understandable, while also having the Assassin’s Creed story.

@@thebaranesen Story wise I totally agree with you Origin beats both Odyssey's and Valhalla's. However my experience in Origin and Valhalla gameplay feel clunky while throughout Odyssey it was a smooth sail ever since the start of the game. I had to watch this since i quit playing Assassin's Creed long time ago yet I'm still curious about the story they wanted to make the game about. Too bad this franchise became less of assassination and more of facing enemies head-on ;it's actually ironic this game has builds around poison and fire(yeah I've watched some playthroughs) and it hurts for someone like me who 100% every Assassin's Creed until Assassin's Creed Rogue to see how this franchise in every release gets further and further away from the original formula it's used; As Ezio said"Requiescat in Pace".

What there’s more to the story??? I went to the animus as Basim and that’s when Eivor became the Jarl. I thought that was it since there’s no missions available. Then again I haven’t found out who was the leader of the Order. Well… I do now. LOL. What a turn of events. It’s crazy but cool at the same time that Aelfred founded the Templar Order. I thought I could make the game feel more exciting like the old games using cheats and trainers. But everything STILL felt very slow and boring. So I looked here, and it didn’t change anything. I’m glad this game was shared to me rather than having to waste my money and time on it. What a waste of a franchise. It’s like the Disney Star Wars sequels of videogames. It’s too bad Ubisoft fans are so docile about this, and the company will never get the same amount of widespread hate Cyberpunk got just for not being optimized.
@thebaranesen
@thebaranesen 3 жыл бұрын
Preach it mate!! I completely agree. I got much more enjoyment out of Cyberpunk than Valhalla, but nobody seems to mention that! Everyone’s just jumping on the bandwagon, Valhalla was a repetitive, long, bloated mess, it wasn’t until the end that the story got decent. Cyberpunk had a great story throughout, a short game for an open world, dense map, great characters, and most importantly: more fun! Yeah there were performance issues and I’m not saying don’t mention that but people seem to forget that it was better than many other games including Valhalla. It’s a double standard for those people.

Great video, pretty detailed and there arent many other Valhalla story summary videos out on youtube, but allow me to offer some constructive criticism, I suggest you practice reading at a slightly faster pace, I watched the whole video at 2x playback speed just to get the dialogue at a normal pace. I assume you were reading from a script throughout the video but you read quite slowly which could be off-putting to some viewers and might prevent some from continuing or completing the video. Not trying to be a dick or hurtful/offensive in any way and I apologize if you have difficulties reading or a disorder of some sort. Otherwise a great and detailed video and I will be leaving a like!
@thebaranesen
@thebaranesen 3 жыл бұрын
Lmao don’t worry, I take all constructive criticism on board. I will try to read faster, but I want an element of emotion in my tone as well so that it gives the viewer the same vibe the story does. However, if I read much faster that may come at the cost of the tone, if you get what I mean. And by the way I take no offence if you watch my videos at 2x speed, especially this one, it was a long video for a long game! Also, thanks for the support on the video!

Just finished this and I'm finishing mysteries and Basim's anomalies. I feel like the only reason I enjoyed it so much is because I love Vikings and the history, had I not loved the show I probably would not have continued playing... A lot of it could have been smoother and I found myself not caring about some of the more minor plots in the game and was on autopilot for much of it. One thing I was conflicted over was the lead poisoning, he sounded like he was telling the truth when he denied it and Halfdan becomes very depressed when you visit him afterwards, so should I have let him live? Does it really matter lol? They left it pretty open ended on whether or not he actually intentionally poisoned him, essentially saying -- "Welp, I hope we were right 🤷‍♀️"... So I felt kinda crummy about it 😅... Also kind of wish the romances were more fleshed-out.
@thebaranesen
@thebaranesen 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you saying that you were on “autopilot” for a lot of the minor plot points of the game, I was the same. So much of the main story should’ve been cut, or at least made into side content. Regarding the lead poisoning I felt like he was trying to double bluff Halfdan by making him feel like perhaps he was going crazy by putting on a good poker face to make him & Eivor feel like he can’t have meant it to let him live. Also, as for the romance options, when a developer that isn’t that skilled at making high quality RPGs does something like that it’s more wise for them to perhaps to stick to 2/3 main romance options like Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, which allows them to flesh out their relationship a little. Quality over Quantity!
@kitsulu8576
@kitsulu8576 3 жыл бұрын
@@thebaranesen yeah, he was very convincing and it made me question my decision. But I do think he was guilty. Romances aren't important to a game but I do enjoy them for some reason. Your video helps me put it all together in my head as less of a jumbled mess lmao.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a great game! I’d say personally my favourite since Unity was Origins. Honestly though, the newer Assassin’s Creed games aren’t anywhere near as good as they used to be, and certainly nowhere near as good as Horizon. So if you’d like recommendations that aren’t Assassin’s Creed let me know, I’d be happy to help.

Eivor is a guy no? Or is this another "We'll give you Alexios so you stop bitching but the real protagonist is Kassandra" situation?
@thebaranesen
@thebaranesen 2 жыл бұрын
Eivor can be male/female just like how you can choose between Kassandra and Alexios in Odyssey. However, Eivor is a female name so it’s supposedly the canonical one. The reason they give for being able to choose the male option is that Odin’s DNA being in Eivor’s bloodline alters the Animus’s view of Eivor.

I played the game until the Ubba & Ivar quest line started. To that point the only enjoyable part was A: the intro and B: the fight against Kjötvi. The rest of the time this game was so boring and one sided. Simply didn't catch me in any way. Now that I know the whole story I'm glad that I didn't continue playing. 1/10 for valhalla. Thanks for your summary

I think a good way to tell a viking story is one of realism. They should have had him/her or them be captured by ottoman pirates to be sold as a slaves and thus from there the MC become introduced to the assassins. There are Norse or Scandinavian peoples being taken as slaves. Men worked but Christians women were often sold because Islam did permit muslims to be slaves or something. Also wealthy Christians or should I say politically Christians, because there nothing Christians about dealing with slavers. Would by Christians slave women for wives and so because laws forbidding Christians and muslims having relationships of marital or sexual nature. I could be wrong of some details.

@@jaharahmuhammad244 theres a channel called "voices of the past" I believe. Has a video from the perspective of a Scandinavian(?) Who was taken as a slave. By pirates to be sold in the ottoman empire. He was eventually released, I forget why, maybe ransom. Very sad when if come to last story of whole families being separated because of things like slavery, then never see one another again. Fun fact pirates were apparently pretty diverse. Europeans, arabs and Africans
