Holy shit you really are an Assassins Creed fan. Not many people quite get just how perfectly lethal and indomitable Altair was. He is literally almost by definition the peak of the Assassin Order.

The real answer is Desmond since he had modern day health and nutrition. Though this is seemingly best for their time period. Still might be Desmond though since his ISU blood concentration is so high.

Even though you said Arno is underrated (I agree), I still think you undersold him quite a bit! We know he's an exceptional swordsman because he not only defeated a Master Assassin in Bellec without getting knocked down, but he also defeated Chevalier d'Éon in a duel without getting hit who was said to be one of the greatest swordsmen in Europe. Napoleon also called Arno a "demon with a blade" and tried to recruit him into the French Army after watching him fight. In the Dead Kings DLC, Arno gains two of the most powerful weapons in the series: the Guillotine Gun, which is basically a grenade launcher axe, and a pseudo Isu sword called the Eagle of Suger that has equal stats to the Sword of Eden. That's not even getting into how good his standard gear is with the poison bombs, smoke bombs, stun grenades, pistol, and Phantom Blade. Arno might also be the stealthiest Assassin: many missions in Unity has him sneaking into areas with 40-70 guards and remaining undetected. He has the "disguise" ability and stealth attacks Germain multiple times, despite being able to instantly detect Arno anywhere in the environment and summon lightning strikes using the Sword of Eden. Arno also remained unphased by several direct energy blasts from the Sword of Eden, which instantly killed Élise and mortally wounded Germain in one shot who is a Sage, so he's easily one of the most durable Assassins. I don't think he's as strong as Connor, but he does lift a stone pillar off of him, which is an amazing feat of strength. As far as preventing bad events from happening, Arno singlehandedly prevents Napoleon and Philippe Rose from acquiring the Head of Saint Denis in Dead Kings, and he saves Élise's friends from a rogue Assassin hired by Templars in the book. There's also all the murder investigations he solves, and everything else he accomplishes in the side missions. I'd personally have Arno in the top 3, but I agree with the rest of your list. I think Desmond is the strongest assassin. We see him use the apple of Eden without getting injured and he also has all the skills of Ezio Altair and Connor making him an unstoppable killing machine. He also uses modern day technology such as guns which helps him kill his foes that much quicker. We see Desmond start out as just some random joe on the street to possibly the greatest assassin of all time.

I’m going to go to bat for Jacob. He is perfect in his role, he is the Warrior, The Enforcer, the one you send to dismantle your enemies piece by piece. He strolled into London and within a year brought down the strongest Templar power base in the world at the time, while doing most of the leg work. He is the type of Assassin you send in when Templars are at their strongest.

Aya, Basim, Altair, Ezio(Revelations), Evie, The Assassins you deploy to prevent The Templars from rising into power, to be used when the Assassins are in a position of strength.

Also you mention how Arno is just a normal assassin in terms of skill. That is actually why I like him so much. He’s probably the most flawed and relatable assassin. Trust me if Elise was a real person Id struggle to get over my feelings for her. He is good at everything in terms of assassin skill but not great. Although we see he is very good at parkour and traversing through the city of Paris undetected.

you missed one thing on the basim part. evior did not best him, evior barely fazed him. basim won the fight in all honesty pretty easily as he was playing with his food. its just sigured got him with a 'trap' he was not expecting sigured to be able to use aka loki be loki fail at the last possible second, usually do to pride or overconfidence

Altair does get hit within his entire time as an Assassin, just not in his prime. He gets stabbed badly taken unexpectedly when going against Ghengis Khan’s men and talks about his decline in skill as he gets older in a comic. He also I believe canonically gets kicked by Al and definitely gets hit and thrown by Robert De Sable but not really strikes if significance since they weren’t with weapons during the events of AC 1.
