Assembling and installing your Westcott Designs 4Runner roof rack

Jeff, I finally started our install build video for the roof rack this weekend after weather delays after UPS damaged delays and waiting for Route to get the replacement parts (Jessica & Eric know about that issue). Since the build instructions for this is pretty vague at best and no written instructions I took a look at the videos here and others videos on KZbin to try and make sense of this build. Nowhere does it give any good details on the roof rack floor insert install and did not even say to install 4 of the T nuts in each rail and to make sure they are facing a certain way or you will hate life because you will have to take it all apart to flip them the right side up. To top it off, as I was finishing up the pre build on video before it goes on the roof, got shorted on washers and bolts to put in two of the cross bars. And why don't you offer the roof inserts in aluminum? Also wondering why there is not a rubber washer under the plates as you have metal on metal? I'm after the 30 days for returns and already put the ladder on which is an other nightmare getting everything to line up and you failed to mention put some kind of sealant in the holes that are drilled to prevent rust. It is a cool looking product and I was sold on the ladder when you lowered a truck onto it like a ramp but to build it yourself is turning into a nightmare and limited to local customers only until detailed instructions can be created and parts QC can be fixed and shipping packaging upgraded to avoid damage in shipping. I'll have my build on my channel by the end of Jan 2023.

How come you don't use rectangular rubber blocks around the sleeves (ala Sherpa system). Wouldn't that improve water sealing vs silicone, and also distribute weight better? Any issues using Sherpa blocks with a WD install?

I was expecting a full video on the install. I want to know how much rubber strip to cut on the sides for the non bolted front support?

It should have already come with the double sided tape on it! No cutting required. Looks like someone needs to be written up😡

@@westcottdesigns Ok that's good. I've also read reviews that the install is completely the same with the competitor Prinsu. BTW, my order lopro is en-route and planning to install a batwing awning from my TT. It weights about 47lbs, wondering if the weight isn't going to be a factor?

7:20 is what I catalla meant. From what I’ve seen from install videos You have to trim the rubber strip from the vehicle in the front. The two side tape goes in place of the trim.

I agree. Left off the most difficult/confusing steps? ? ? Up to that point it was a very good detailed installation video.

Im thinking about getting your low profile rack to mount a rtt on. My only concern is that it may be too low profike to be able to attach the rtt. What do you think?

Why the round cylinders instead of a block for the mounting bracket spacers? Seems like a block would spread out the load of the rack and whatever is on it.

i have an identical rack i notice you put the crossbars on the lower holes of the side rails. I put mine flush with the top of the rack. did you do them lower just to make it even lower profile? i'm worried the lower position would make my RTT sit on the sides of the rails instead of the bars.

This is because we were going to install the floor inserts to make it into a basket.

Can you install the side rails on the vehicle and then the crossbars?

As I said before it’s aluminum and can’t rust. All the hardware is stainless. Now the black oxide coating.can discolor on the bolts which be mistaken for rust. But we have such good customer service we just replace them if a customer requests.
