Thank you for the tip about the center spring tension pin. I am new to knife making and most videos seem to skip this step!

Nice work. I'm trialing some slip joints at the moment, up to now only been concentrating on fixed blades. Appreciate your videos, nice to see other makers and their methods. Ian, oldoakknives.

Thanks for sharing, beautiful work! Did you make the phosphor bronze bushings yourself or could you acquire it somewhere locally in SA?

Very good looking slipjoint....tough long lasting material choice and beautifully finished. Question : i saw in your previous vid that you chamfer the pivot pin before peening. Well i found that somethimes the pin does not fill the chamfer completely and a very tiny gap can become visible after grinding and polishing the scales and pivot pin further down. I tried some peening on scraps without the small chamfer and they hold equally well since the pin becomes wider by peening and it pushes out at the sides even without any chamfering. I got a very clean and unvisible connection that way. Whats your take on this ??
@MeadesKnives
@MeadesKnives 5 жыл бұрын
HoutmeyersP I chamfer the pin only to enter it into the knife. After that I flatten the pins again to ensure they flare well and fill the holes as you mentioned. For me it’s essential to flatten the pins again before peening. Spot on.

You made this knife?! I would love to own one just like it! How much would it cost for one with a normal carbon steel blade? (no damascus)

Why does the orientation of the phosphor bronze bushing matter? Is it chamfered a certain way? Or is there a recess in one or both of the liners? Beautiful work btw.
@MeadesKnives
@MeadesKnives 5 жыл бұрын
Zack Chambers sorry Zack. Only saw this now. If the inner hole is not concentric with the outer diameter of the bush, then it def does matter with regarding to spring height that it stays in position. Otherwise it makes no difference.

Meades Knives thanks for the reply I've watched that same part probably 30 times and never could quite understand the reasoning until your response (if I'm being honest it took a few times reading your reply and watching again for it to sink in.) I guess I had presumed that the bushing was a precision made piece with extremely tight tolerances. Then I remembered that would only be in a perfect world. And nothing in knife making can ever be easy lol thanks again for the great video and response!
