Hey guys, we just received our Erommy 12x20 gazebo that looks identical too your Kozyard. I read several reviews that stated the installation instructions were terrible, so I downloaded the pdf instructions from Wayfair to start looking them over... Right out of the gate...1st page "At least need 3person work together" 😅 and "required tools" just has 3 pictures of gloves, a drill, and a step ladder. I knew immediately the rest of the assembly instructions would be more of the same! No words, only pictures. Thankfully, we have you guys who sacrificed to bring us this great video! I turned 50 in November (still doesn't sound right coming out of my mouth) and have a bad back.. my wife doesn't think my 16 yr old and I can put it together, but after watching your vid, there is no way in hell that I'm not gonna try! Thanks for taking the time to bring us this video. I plan on having it queued up on my tablet when we start the installation.

Hi 1of1GT. Thank you SO much for watching and sharing the kind words and your story. This is exactly why we created this episode. There was nothing out there like it & we saw how helpful it could be. We just didn't think it would be this helpful. We absolutely have confidence that you two can do it. Just have your 16yr old do all the heavy lifting. You can operate the power tools. LOL. Come back and let us know how it turned out or even better, if you'd like to share, send us a picture to our email in the description. We love getting viewer emails. Take care and stay safe!

Thank you- very helpful.We have the purple leaf 12 by 16 one and the manual was pretty good and clear and doenst have the mistakes yours had. That said, maybe we had too much sun and got confused where the P bar goes lol. We kept trying to fit it on the external frame instead of internal. We figured it out after awhile but had trouble fitting it until we saw your video. The video is helpful although my stubborn 70 something year old father was trying to reference the least amount of info lol. I, his daughter, helped him and it’s going smoothly. We just have the lower roof left. It’s my moms and pops gazebo but it’s just me and my dad assembling it. I organize all the parts for each step and hand it to him so he doesn’t do too much bending and he does the drilling and fitting. All in all, your video was very helpful. Cheers from Canada!

THANK YOU is an understatement. My husband, son and I tackled this project this weekend. Even with your AMAZING tips, it was a solid 12+ hour job. Took us 2 solid days. And boy were we spent at the end of each of those days. And we only had the 12x14 size. Your tips helped immensely as we went. We also faced mislabeled parts, and had a couple missed steps of our own along the way, including missing the extra hole in the middle roof brace on each side...so as we were assembling roof side one, we noticed there was no upper hole. Detour that took a good 30min to undo/reassemble the 4 bars in the right place. My husband and I work together best when I can watch an installation video...pretty sure you guys saved us a bunch of marital bickering along the way too. LOL You guys rock!

You two are the best! Thank you again. To anyone considering purchasing these units: WATCH THIS VIDEO. I left it open on my desktop and consulted well over 50 times in the past 7 days as I struggled through assembly. And they even responded to my questions in a more timely basis than the Purple Leaf people. DO NOT even try to follow instructions without consulting this video on every step. LEAVE EVERYTHING loose until the very end when all the panels are on and only then systematically tighten up fasteners. I give this video a 200% up thumb and will tell the Purple Leaf incompentents to hire these two to build a custom video for them on how to really do it. THANK YOU!

Thanks for taking the time to post this, very helpful. Very important to read the manual front to back. The stick little tidbits like taping the spacers on the last page vs when you are putting the roof on. -XXXXXXXXXXX MOSQUIITO SCREEN AT TOP> Mine did that for a moment, it's from wrenching too hard on the screws and it makes a ripple. if you back your screws out and put them in by hand they will straighten out. There are a few different instruction manuals floating around. I found one that had us install the mosquito screens at the top after the upper roof was done. This seems logical and was less stressful. XXXXXXXXXXXX Also, The Silicone sealant isn't for the gap behind the center spacers, it's for the top channel to seal the gap for water drainage or else it will drip down the center. I had extra silicone left so i used it on the Mosquito screen at the top to seal the small gap at the roof. For those looking to buy this, I have the 10x12 one. and the roof spacers (that in the video are powder coated together and they had to fight with them)... are now plastic and a small piece of scotch take works great to hold them in place during assembly. The instructions also say to not tighten down ANYTHING until the end. I also used the little sand castle footing used for floating decks. the triangle fits fell right on top of them and can screw to them.

You guys are ROCK GODS!!! Thank you soooo much for your video! I bought my "MELLCOM 12' x 20' " Gazebo at the end of last summer hoping to get it up before end of fall and no go... It is virtually identical to yours... I began the build last week myself and was able to do the majority on my own. My wife helped when I needed that extra hand. I am at the point of the roof build and your video has answered some important questions about what is needed. I thought of bolting the supports in hopes the would hold up until the top was on BUT started a scaffold build because I thought the bolts would bend the supports. Your other tips I am sure will come in handy in the next two days as I move through the rest of the roof install. I will come back and update on my progress as others may run into similar issues I have. Thanks again for your experience and the detailed progress reports, the details make all the difference!!! Much appreciated!

Huge Thank you!!!! My wife and I started assembling our 12 x 18 this past weekend. We are about 10 hours into the assembly and working on installing the lower roof panels. Ran into huge problem last night as holes not lining up on the lower holes of some of the roof panels. They are off by about 1/2". Tried loosening up some of the "E" bars but did not work. Was going to bring those in to work today and redrill the holes but decided against it and will try again tonight to push the panels over somehow. Good news!!! Some things have been updated design-wise since this video. The biggest design improvement is that the bug screens are now sewn to the frame, not glued! And those frames are now notched to fit the peaks in the roof. Awesome job Kozyard! Now.... The biggest pain in the whole build... putting on those aggravating, hate filled, nasty little plastic spacing clips on the beveled ends of the roofing material with "double-sided" tape that doesn't stick. AT ALL! After an hour and a half and we only go the first 2 small pieces of the upper roof in place, I yelled at my kids to go get mom's hot glue gun. 😂 Worked like a charm! Not one popped off after that! No one can see those plastic guides anyway since they rest in the channel, so off I went with my glue gun. We love our new Kozyard.

Thanks for your honesty .most videos show the people working and everyone smiling and happy this is all almost an impossibility, because something is always overlooked and rather than be honest and get mad at ourselves we generally blame the other person working on the project with us .so thank you for being honest these things are good to build patience but nobody wants patience ,especially when you want the project done immediately. But believe it or not in the long run this will help your relationship if you just keep the word kindness in your vocabulary.

Great video! Although I finished my 10x12 a few months before you posted this video I still enjoyed watching it. Mine will be a year old soon and it went through NY snow like a champ! I did use flex seal clear at each screw on the outside of the roof and middle joints and any area that I could see the sun poke through, that really made a huge difference in no rain water coming through.

@@SpiritedWrenchers aww thanks, you guys are so sweet! I had a few screws that leaked a tiny bit and I didn’t trust that tube they included so used flex seal instead. So while I was up on the ladder putting the seal on the 2 or 3 screws I just did all of them :) I did mess up big time though, forgot to tie the curtains during a windy storm and every corner lost the hook that holds it to the 4 corners and tore a hole in each corner of the curtain…lesson learned to ALWAYS tie up those curtains! (good thing you can buy a replacement curtain) looking forward to your updates….all the best!

Two of us just days ago assembled a 12x18 gazebo. Took us a total of 14 hrs over 2 days. We definitely experienced some frustrations while positioning and securing the roof sections but in the end it all came together. I bolted it down to my deck and the next day a storm packing heavy rain and high winds swept through. No rain dripped through the roof and the strong wind had no effect on the gazebo at all.

Thanks so much for taking the time to walk through and recording, including the mistakes - priceless . I'm wondering if you had alignment issues with X3 and X4 panels. I noticed you have a small gap at the top of X4.I have the same gap and cannot remove it no matter what. A few suggestions for viewers: 1. Upper screens - do them last as Art & Dana did, not in the middle like the instructions show. You'll just have to take them back off to help with roof panel alignment and that top bugger of a screw. 2. Make sure the lower roof panel brackets face inward and up- my interpretation of the instructions did it the other way around, and I had to take them all off and redo them. Also loosen those same brackets as Art and Dana did to help align the mounting holes. 3. You might need the patience of Job with those roof clips - just look at them wrong and they come loose or fall off. Thanks again for outstanding service to the community😊

Hey! Thanks very much for your helpful video and comments! I'd like to add a couple items: First, the "Z" pieces that attach to the roof panels are now made of plastic, so there is no worry about them being powder coated and having to pry the tabs open. Also, my wife and I found it very helpful to use a Phillips-head screwdriver inserted into the roof panel holes and the attachment points to line them up before attempting to pass a screw through them. Maybe this will help someone else!

Hi Roger, Thank you for watching and sharing the kind words as well as sharing your story as well. So cool that we have similar setups. For the gutter, occasionally we'll push a long phillips screwdriver through the hole to clean out the crud from the trees near by. Nothing too major but it could be better for sure. If you do that after a rain, the water will help push the small pieces out. Anything bigger has to be done from up top. Hope that helps.

Hi Timothy. Thank you for watching and sharing with everyone. We really appreciate it. I wish there were tips for it but there isn't any particular order for tightening things down. We just went back and took care of after we had everything in place. Very weird about the spot where daylight comes through. Especially if all holes lined up correctly. I wish I could help more on that. Not sure about using something like JB Weld. It could probably work but just can't say for 100% certainty since we've never tried it. If I did try it, I would put it in a small area out of site first to make sure it creates a good bond. Hope that helps.

Having lost 2 gazebos in wind storms, and heard stories from others, I realize these are inherently weak yet you can easily fix this. The corner bracing just isn't enough, and unlike a house, there is no plywood sheathing on the walls proving the needed bracing for those wind storms that come with occasional high gusts that blow trees over. Here is how guy wires can replace the protection that sheathing otherwise provides, and kept my 3rd gazebo standing in scary winds. I recommend this: - don't even start the project until you have the guy wire or rope materials and attachment hardware in hand and part of your mission. (My first gazebo crunched up in a month...) - until corner braces at roof and pillers are screwed down, this is like a boat not lashed to a dock! Before stopping first day, put a temp (or final if confident) screw or stake on the corner posts, and use cargo straps or rope and put either external or internal diagonal guy lines. When you can attempt to push it over with force and it won't budge, an overnight breeze won't dance it off the deck into a crumple of twisted parts. - when all assembled, assure your pillers are firmly attached to the ground, but know these pillers are not stiff buried fence posts, they might as well be hinged at the ground! Any twisting from wind will tear the sheet metal of the pillers or exceed the strength and bend pillers. - tie permanent diagonal ropes or wires on every wall but the one you will use for entry. if you can't do 3 walls, substitute external guy lines staked like a circus tent with deep beefy pipe (this is annoying) or if earth, drive in the ground a heavy pipe like chain link post or rail pipe to deliver this support. - for big storms, make the room as transparent to the wind as possible: open screens and tie back privacy panels. (my 3rd room, smaller and flimsier than yours blew over when I ignored a weather report, so if you don't trust your ability to always be mindful, fortify even more! Winds blow fences and trees over all the time, and these gazebo makers love repeat customers who blame themselves, not the inherently weak products they know they make. The fine print in the instructions will have some sentence starting with "Not responsible for..." or "disassemble before severe weather" yet the catalog page fails to mention "not designed for high winds and we don't sell replacement parts we know will break..." If anyone thinks I am overstating this, are you OK betting your football playing friend he can't knock it over? I hope my own trauma can prevent yours!

Hi Jamie. Thank you very much for watching and sharing your experiences with us. Sorry to hear you've lost a couple in wind storms. We agree, that they aren't the strongest of all structures and you should be aware of your location and potential weather that could affect it before getting one. We've had 40mph winds come through since having ours up and we could hear the deck creaking with the gusts but thankfully, nothing more. We anchored them down with SS large threaded bolts directly into the deck which is also anchored into the ground. Would that be enough in a 50mph+ gusts, possibly not but hopefully we're in a location where if we get those, we have bigger concerns on our hands. Plus we have home insurance so there's that. :-) Thank you once again for sharing. Very good advice for others to pay attention to.

Watched the video looks good. I really don’t know where your from, if you mentioned it l miss it. I was wondering if you seen any strong winds in your area and how well it stood up. Do you have snow in your area? Just wondering what the snow load rating is! Lots of questions l know.

Hi B Easby. Thank you for watching and sharing. We really appreciate that. We actually live in Ohio so we get strong winds from the Ohio Valley as well as a considerable amount of snow during the winter time. We have had no problems with it standing up to the wild weather that we get. We've been incredibly happy with it. We plan to do a 1 year review of it in August so we hope you subscribe so you don't miss it. Cheers!

I’ve had quite a few manuals in my business from China and the one common denominator for all of them is they’re written in Changlish (Chinese English). You always have to do what you did and hope for the best. You would think they would actually have someone who could proof read manuals but apparently not. Congrats, fine job.

I have never seen such a well done video on building of a 'some assembly require' item.. However my question is about building permits and the 'Signed and Sealed Architectural Drawings the are required in Florida. Have you had any experiences with acquiring that or similar documents
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeffrey, thank you VERY much for the incredibly kind words. The compliment is huge and it means a lot to us. We wish we could provide some additional insight into the permit stuff but unfortunately it's an area we don't have any expertise. We're fortunate that it wasn't required for us where we live because of our location and that we reside in a township. We're both very familiar with Florida (both of us moved from there to OH) and their requirements and HOA's. Each one could be different but I'm sure the manufacturer could provide something that could be useful if contacted. Wish we had a better answer for you. Thank you once again!

Great video! Is your deck sloped away from the house? I'm currently installing a 10 x 14 purple leaf gazebo and my concrete patio slopes slightly away from the house, just wondering if the gazebo really needs to be level. Thanks
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers Жыл бұрын
Hi Vincent. Thanks for watching and sharing the kind words. We greatly appreciate it. Our deck isn't sloped. I don't think it needs to be level (however we are not experts. It's just our thought on it). If you do install it there, be sure to bolt it down to the concrete slab. We drove through a neighborhood this past week and actually saw a smaller version of ours collapsed on one side in someone's backyard on a concrete slab. It appears they did not bolt it down. Hope that helps. Good luck with your assembly and we hope you have many days of enjoyment from your gazebo.

@@timbaker2024. Great question. I have seen several brands that have similar looking products but I'm unable to provide info as to who is better. I can tell you that the customer service with Kozyard was fantastic. Especially when we ordered ours and it was waiting to be sent from overseas. They were able to tell us what was on the ships and how many and when to expect it so we used that to help in our ordering. Hope that helps some.

Great video, I found this when we were done with the lower frame assembly but I'll be sure to take your tips for the roof frame and roof itself. We're partway through our Domi 12 x 16 gazebo, and I can tell you the Domi, Kozyard, Mellcom and Purple Leaf gazebos all follow the same model. Heck, the manual looks pretty much the exact same with the same part names and numbers.

Hi Stephen V. Thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate you. Depends on a number of factors. Where in FL, How and what is it being secured to plus others. Both Dana and I lived in FL but the location is a big factor. Is it hurricane proof....NO. We are planning on installing an overhead fan bit Big Ass fans are just too big for these. I think the weight would be too much for it. Hope that helps.

HI Brandoncollins7163. Thank you very much for watching and sharing the kind words. We really appreciate that. Congrats on the 10x12 purchase. Spent the day fighting with the roof and holes not lining up. I feel your pain!!! The tip about loosening the screws on the bars that the roof mounts to is GOLD! I had come to the same conclusion after a few hours of fighting with misaligned holes, but gave up for the day. I feel encouraged that it worked for you, thanks. Also, have you had rain yet? I'm thinking that it's not going to be completely water tight because there are no grommets under the roof mounting screws. Thanks for the vid!

Thank you for watching and commenting about your journey, we really appreciate it. We've had rain and it only leaks in 1 spot and its likely because I overtightened 1 roof screw. Its on a center bar close to the edge. Im going to go back, loosen and add some sealant just to be safe. Not surprised though because of the thin aluminum. No big deal though. Let us know how it went when go back for day 2. Good luck with the last bit!
