Today I finally got to fire up my Vevor smelting furnace for the first time. I assembled the furnace and then added refractory cement to the inside of all surfaces. Then I fired up the furnace and got the crucible to red hot in order to temper it before I use it properly for melting metals.
If you missed the first video, watch here: • Starting The Greenhous...
I plan to melt aluminum next time in this furnace and make ingots and coins for sale and gifts. Later I will get another crucible for copper and smelt some ore I got from the mines in Michigan. Then I will make some jewelry and coins from the copper.

Local landfill may be a good source for meltable scrap metals. This opens up all kinds of possibilities I think the kiln was a good idea you had.

Thanks. I am hoping it boosts my channel. I plan to make a forge myself and also make charcoal to fire it. I will be making some knives and stuff later.

Cool vid. I have one like this being shipped. I also got a 1kg crucible, because 6kg is huge for what I'mdoing. I wanted to see what the refractory cement was for. Thanks!

have a tray of sand to stand the pot on when you lift out as this will deal with the thermal shock better than a large concrete block which takes a long time to heat

I know it’s been 5 months but you need a steel plate inside the furnace to deflect the flame off the crucible, that circular mark on the crucible will eventually become a hole in it as the flame ablates just that circular area, the rest of the crucible most likely would be fine so would just be that hole that causes you the problem

I read that you should always rotate the crucible for that reason. Thanks for the tip. I have to consider a way to do that.

how do you tell aluminum from tin or nickle scrap?
@TheDoItYourselfWorld
@TheDoItYourselfWorld Жыл бұрын
I can tell from the color and appearance. But telling aluminum from zinc requires an acid test.

Copper pennies. Pre-1983 coins are 100% copper.

But then its not Michigan copper from the mines here.
@DoctorBill
@DoctorBill Жыл бұрын
@@TheDoItYourselfWorld You Know where the copper for the pennies came from then? On the very older cents the copper may have come from those mines. It would not be cost effective to melt older pennies.

No I dont know the source of the copper and that is the point for me tho. I want to mine copper myself, smelt it down and make coins for sale to tourists. Michigan copper all the way from ore to coin.
