@@radioactivetrees9626 Yeah, I've seen the bugs but most of the racing games on PS4 have been worse on day one. Project cars 2 is not great at all without any updates, Slow shudder's screen tearing. It's got it all. Even Dirt 2.0 has improved a lot. They will get those sorted out but 30 frames is here to stay until at least when we got and grab our PS5. Which I hope (and expect) will get a 60 frame patch on top of the ps4 version for the PS5 and maybe also a version of it's own which is exactly the PC version.

30fps is not the biggest problem. 3 prerendered frames (even on PC) at 30fps is 100ms. A whopping 100ms of input lag AT THE SMALLEST! Add other variables, including framedrops, and that value gets even bigger. 100ms is pretty shit. If you turn on the wheel in the game and turn your wheel side to side quickly, you can see how it just lags behind, quite badly.

I love my sim racing and I cant afford a lot of kit and a high end PC. To be able to play ACC and experience it at 30fps with my G29 is great and in my price range and I think its brilliant to have. Especially as Project Cars 3 looks like it's about to make Mario Kart look like a sim 😆😆

I am with you, this whole thing has always baffled me. Obviously all things equal, throw me that 4k 60ps as standard (coming soon...), but trade that for couch setup, controller boot with a button (in as quick as 3-5 secs from boot to playing with suspend features), fully optimized hardware/software (everything always works/updates on its own, no compatibility issues), rampant cheating in AAA mp games is fractions of what PC deals with, and if you are on PS4...the best AAA exclusives out there. Most of said exclusives, are so well optimized (and at least on the Pro), they truly impress me more than anything else graphically usually does. PC gamer's want to trade all that for mods and 60 fps...to me, PC Master Race is just a condescending joke at elitists who could never admit any of the above. Diminishing returns are soon to be here (really...this whole last gen, my argument is a strong one that maybe we were already there). And if a PC nut wants to rant at me, I do get it, some sims, some niche genres, yes PC caters to some things more than a console. And maybe you love mods, maybe you geek out at that next graphics card and tweaking your shit. Cool. I don't want to trade my perks for yours, and most agree based on nearly any mainstream AAA multi-plat sales. That PC elitist mentality is clinging to over a decade ago, before power gaps closed within reasonable price points. Even then, my laptop was near $2g and I have played one game on it just to see how it ran. Its not about the money for a lot of us either.

Thank you for this overview Jimmy! Hopefully they will work something out for the PS5 to run this at min. 60fps, but for a seven year old piece of hardware that was under-powered when it came out in the PS4, 30 is pretty dang impressive and the fact that they were able to make it playable on the 4 is crazy to me and I am thankful to the developer for doing it. All I wanted were the physics and sounds of ACC on PC and if the graphics are along the lines of AC on PS4, I am one happy racer.

It is as rewarding as it is challenging and it reminds me of when I first played racing games in the mid 90’s they were tough for me but after much perseverance I got the results I wanted and this game does this for me now.

Radioactive Trees I wouldn't call it a bad product. It's actually a miracle considering how severely limited the hardware is especially on the cpu side. The fact that we now have pc grade sim racing physics on a peasants console is great news for those peasants actually owning one. Jokes aside it's only a good thing and there's nothing on any console coming close to ACC. I don't own one, play on pc, but am glad for the console crowd.

Like many others my Thrustmaster TX wheel on my XB1X wasn’t recognized and it took a lot of research to get it to work. Finally after a couple hours my shakedown run’s frame rate suffered tremendously (slideshow!) until I turned off the in car graphics info, which is my standard practice. This game has some awesome features however isn’t really ready for prime time. Pity. BTW, I enjoy watching and learn a great deal from your videos here. You’re a genuine guy and it really comes across. You seem like you’d make a good neighbor, lol. I’m glad to see your success. You’ve followed your passion. Good on you.

unplug your wheel, then when you boot the game up go to free practice and start the session. pause plug your wheel back in and disconect your controller, you have to map some buttons but it should work from there

Look at the GT3 text on the Bentley at 2:10 and onwards, as it's getting not much further away it renders something completely different. I think that is an indication of what the PS4 can do and what ACC does with rendering.

Not a question to me but I'm answering it anyway. I think if I wanted to play hardcore simulator then I'd go with ACC but GT Sport is much better as a game than a simulator as it has full customisation on car liveries as well as having large multiplayer lobbies where you can cross over several different car classes.

Great vid, Jimmy. Looks like they really nailed it on the console iteration of ACC. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. I have ACC on PC also. I hope they can bump up the fps in the future, but if not, no big deal. Private lobbies and more DLC are coming. It is the consensus that this is superior to GT Sport in various ways.

The fact this is managing to run on console without watered down physics is pretty fantastic! The reason for the 30fps cap will be due to it being CPU bound as it's very intensive, so there's probably little optimisation that can be done without affecting the handling. Good news for console gamers is that next-gen is around the corner, so ACC will be ready to fully unlock it's potential. A proper full-blown sim on console, it's been a long time coming!

I‘m really enjoying it so far, and considering my PC can‘t really handle it much better anyway, 30 FPS isn‘t really that much of a problem for me. I am surprised to see though that my lap times at Zolder are pretty much the same as the ones you did in this video. GIves me quite a bit of a confidence boost to know that I can keep up with my favorite racing youtuber.

On the NSX, change the wheel-rate to be higher on the front than the back by one step. Mid engine cars should have a higher wheel-rate on the front, but the default setups have reversed this! Also, the power-band for the NSX needs you to get close to the limiter before changing up.

I appreciate your honest feedback about the frame rate. I often feel this way about frame rate, graphics, etc, but when you're totally immersed in the race, concentrating on hitting the apex and the car in your rear view, as long as the frame rate is stable, it fades from memory. Will have to pick this up once i'm done with PC2.

I can understand why they capped the frame rate, so long as it’s nailed there. A lower but consistent frame rate is better than one that can go higher but is all over the place. I seem to remember setting a cap a long time ago on old PC hardware. I think it was live for speed that had the option to set a cap down at 30 fps, and I settled on that as consistency made a big difference from bouncing around between 30-odd and 60. I can’t remember which PC that was on, but to give an idea of how long ago, it would have been either on an Athlon XP 1800, or its predecessor, which was “powered” (if you can call it that) by a Celeron 466; video card was probably a Radeon 9700 Pro.

Thanks for this very useful review Jimmy. I was curious to see a review of playing 30fps ACC on console. Because ive got my budget PC running ACC on low settings in VR at 30fps, converted to a simulated 60fps (steamVR per app video settings > motion smoothing > Force On). I changed my WMR headset to 60hz mode. res is 1440x1440 per eye Running a real 60fps in VR is just too demanding for me. specs: i7 3770, 12gb 1600mhz ram, GTX 1650 SUPER (recently bought) However the first assetto corsa runs in VR at a constant 60fps easily on my pc, with motion smoothing set on auto for when it dips below 60fps (sometimes)
