Have you read Diary of Ann Frank? No judgement just one momma to another, when I read it as a kid there was confusing sexual content of her experimentation in the story fyi. Unless they have changed it. Some parents are going for the Who was version due to this.
@RootedinRest4 жыл бұрын
Yes I have, and it’s why I said my boys aren’t old enough for it. I have a Tuesday tip video on how I read ahead and omit what’s necessary for my prolific reader. No judgement felt, thanks for looking out for me. I always either read ahead or research.

@@RootedinRest Yeah I just free range read whatever and devoured books as a kid, I found that one to be a bit too much and disturbing. That's good you read ahead!! We haven't hit that age yet of outpacing me, my kids are still reading things I have read before in the younger elementary genre but we will be there soon!

Yes, yikes to Anne Frank. We will not be reading this book in our homeschool... ever. Even though my oldest is nearly 14, she's "growing up slow" which is JUST fine with me :). It's not worth it, putting these defiling ideas in our kiddos minds. It's sneaky because the book is "so good". Just looking out for all of our precious little ones. Thanks for the video, Abby.

I'm curious to know if this book is recommended by Honey for a Teen's Heart. (I don't have that book yet.) Does anyone know?

My oldest read The Golden Goblet a couple of years ago for world history. She loved it! Great choice 😊. We also love that Usborne World Wars book. Right now we are reading The War That Saved My Life and we are enjoying that quite a bit - about a girl and her brother that leave London during WWII.

Number the Stars was a great gentle book for WWII topics. We used and loved the usborne World Wars book! You have so many great books picked out for this year. We did the Golden Goblet as a read aloud when we studied that time period and we both really enjoyed it! I love all things book so I loved this video! Do you ever try and read deeper on a topic you guys are studying as a family? Now that we are in the middle school years I realized I needed a deeper knowledge on certain topics so I am trying to find things for myself this year as well!

Yes! I do, but it’s kind of a new habit. I recently read The Tattooist of Auschwitz and it was so good for me to read deeper before we start.

You have a great selection of books! That is orne book ‘Around the world in 80 days’ looks so good and fun. Some other books you might interested in for the holocaust is ‘The Hiding Place’ which is the story of Corrie Ten Boom and her family, it is so good and ‘Night’ by Elie Wiesel, but if I remember correctly that would probably only be good for the older kids. Thank you for sharing your books.😊

When do you do your read-alouds and how do you fit so many into your school year schedule?
@Keemanchic4 жыл бұрын
I am answering you before I have even watched the video ha, but I just wanted to share what has REALLY helped me get in more read-aloud time - I read to my kids while they're cleaning up after breakfast. It's what "starts" our homeschool as well. While they're cleaning off the table and washing dishes (breakfast usually isn't a huge affair to clean up after like supper is), I read to them. If my little kids happen to be in the room great, but if not that's fine too. Right now I'm currently reading an abridged version of The Secret Garden along with a book of mother goose stories, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, etc that we have in our library. They really love listening to a book while cleaning up. And they retain what they have heard too.

Hello. Question, please help me understand this a little better. I have been wanting to try a literature program, but to be honest I can’t seem to wrap my head around the amount of books you have to go through. How do you get all the reading done. Do you actually go through all the books completely? Could you do a video addressing this topic?

Hey! Ok you’ll have to explain because I don’t think I’m understanding lol! What literature program? You mean assigned reading? These are just selections I’ve made, not necessarily a program. Also, these are for my four kids, so it looks like a lot more than it is!!
