Kaiju # 8 is like, if you took all the common shonen manga tropes, added nothing new and tried to pass it off as a new anime. There's the Levi Ackermann character equivalent, the 3rd hokage equivalent, the main character's just a human possessed by the nine-tailed beast but it's a "kaiju" this time, it even copied the weapons system from the anti-ghoul organization from Tokyo Ghoul. The longer you think about it the more elements you find came from some other series.

I've enjoyed alot of good stuff this entire year, romance? Alya san and dangers in my heart. Action? Kaiju no.8 Comedy? Ranma... But nothing has spoken the entire year... Unlike dandadan. Before i watched it, I've seen it as definitely being glazed. Then episode 1 came out it was nuts. Then episode 2 and 3 came out. Then I thought... "This can't get weirder" Then episode 4 happened where okarun nibbled on turbo granny's bits. Then 5, then 6 then 7... I just knew... In only 7 episodes... It already beated everything the entire year. Even oshi no ko.

Dan da dan not being anime of the year is a respectable opinion, and sure, you can say Kaiju No. 8 is the better contender. But, you can't say Dan da Dan doesn't add anything new when you're not gonna say it to Kaiju No. 8 as well. Sure, a man transforming into Kaiju is new, but most of it ain't that original and imma list them down: 1. Middle aged man having regrets so he gets back up and tries reaching for his dream again 2. same man holding back his OP powers because it wouldn't be fair/thinks he'll be seen as a threat 3. Supportive bro with potentially misunderstood reasonings of wanting to be stronger 4. Superhuman girl with parent issues 5. Dad initially seen as an uncaring parent in the viewer's perspective only to turn out that he's misunderstood as well 6. Dude with closed eyes and being good with twin daggers and insanely strong 7. Same dude with closed eyes having a background of being underestimated I can agree that Dan Da Dan didn't add anything new for the most part, heck I know a bunch of anime that tried to incorporate all genres in an action anime. But I also want to provide an objective reasoning as to why Dan Da Dan makes it as a contender for anime of the year, that being "Execution". Kaiju no. 8 did everything by the formula and not deviating(as you can see from what I listed above), a few outlier concepts that tried to innovate but didn't really execute well. Whereas Dan da Dan, one of the few anime where they took a funny concept, like a dude's wiener being taken, as something serious, important to the plot, and still be funny( other anime trying this too but only to end up leaning close on either of the three ). I won't list down what Dan da Dan is good at since I'm mainly talking about Kaiju no. 8. I found Kaiju no. 8 to be a good watch and Dan da dan isn't my favorite anime (not yet at least), and I can respect people saying Kaiju no. 8 to be a contender for anime of the year. What I'm trying to say is that Dan Da Dan does have more objective reasons as to why it's a contender rather than Kaiju No. 8. I can list down the reasons but I think you've seen some examples by now (tho I can bring them up if you want) No hate towards you, you stated your opinion and I merely stated mine (But yeah I'm this fired up to write this wall of text), I'll respect your opinion.
