Fun fact #2 According to various sources, the world population was around 50 million at the time of this feast. That means 0.14% of the world's population was at the Kalhu feast. With today's population of some 8 billion, the same feast would have had 11 million guests. Don't forget to get on the waiting list for my upcoming book at www.tableofgods.com/yt and receive three ancient recipes to try right away.

To boost up the algorithm: a few years ago i visited an exhibition ob Ashurbanipal in the British Museum. Random fascinating impressions: the tablets are actuallu very small; in his great library, 80% if books were on magic; and disturbingly, one if the friezes depucs his soldiers, stabbing a woman to death. And yes, he liked flaying people alive, that's on ine if the friezes, too

Very informative video - I salute you in your endeavour and making this a reality as I have come across one cook book that is written with, let’s say, an outsider outlook of the foods of Mat-Aššur in a foreign language tied to this lands of as of current. I look forward to your book that adheres to the roots of Ashurayeh and their traditions, culture and heritage as it was as you have clearly mentioned. 👍🏼 I’m also curious to know which foods today that every Assyrian eats and makes is truly Assyrian in origin. I know we have a lot of them, so hopefully your book will cite some examples of where they originate from with either etymology or sources (clay tablets, artefacts, post-empire sources, from those lands and beyond).

When you mentioned all the crazy food items, I was horrified at the power and wealth this Assurpunai commanded. There is sort of this stigma that before Greece, all the ancient world other than China and Egypt were primitive, but if the Assyrians could create such a feast that would be pretty impossible even to later Kingdoms, then it's clear that they must have been quite advanced for their time. Also, the recipe for Gubibate sounds interesting, sounds something that would be eaten by people in that region to day. Interesting how some things never change, but other things do. Great Video, I cannot wait for more.

Are you really an Assyrian? Fascinating! Quite frankly, although I have spent most of my long life disliking and condemning the peoples and the nations that currently occupy the Ancient Near East, ever since I stumbled upon Ancient Mesopotamia (by way of exploring the original Sumerian founding culture), I fell in love with the Akkadian language (in cuneiform clay tablets), and particularly, with the magnificent Neo-Assyrian Empire (911-612/09 BCE). As for Ashurnasipal II's monstrous proclivities, he was indubitably the worst of the royal bunch. As for my favorite Assyrian king, Ashurbanipal - the founder of the magnificent Royal Library of Nineveh - represents the most educated and enlightened (albeit brutal) Assyrian monarch! You must be very proud of your remote ancestors!
@tableofgods

Hehe, Ashurbanipal is one of my favorite kings too. The librarian king. So fond of literature that he didn't even have time to lead his army on war - but stayed at his library in Nineveh with his fellow scribes and talked literature all day long :)

@@tableofgods Thank you so much for your kind reply, esteemed Assyrian friend. Do you currently live in the territory of the former Neo-Assyrian empire? Is it true that the malevolent ISIS has obliterated the ruins of Aššur, Nineveh, and Kalhu (a.k.a. Nimrud)? How tragic! What an incalculable, monstrous crime against Humanity’s historical patrimony... Have you ever fantasized about meeting one of the Sargonid monarchs, magically in person - that is, Aššurbanipal, Sennacherib, or Sargon II? (Briefly, of course, lest you might not be able to survive the encounter… LOL). CHEERS from New York City! 😆

In Kurdish we call them kutilk/kutilig. The word comes from Kurdish verb of kutandin which means to hit, to pound. Probably kutle has the same origin.

Another query, dear Assyrian friend, if I may. Do you enjoy reading about the Ancient Mesopotamian pantheon of divine entities? Especially the dispute between Enlil (chief god of the Sumerians and Akkadians), Marduk (from Babylon - another fabulous ancient metropolis), and Aššur (in Assyria). They fascinate me. Incidentally, I feel guilty every time I use the word Assyria or Assyrian - both of which represent Greek terminology - instead of the "Land of Aššur" or the "Men of Aššur?" Assyrian cuneiform: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assur#/media/File:Rassam_cylinder_Anshar-ki.jpg that is "Rassam cylinder "Anshar-ki" for "Assyria", in the sentence an-szar2-du3-a man kur_ an-szar2{ki} "Aššurbanipal King of Assyria"" I truly adore the fabulous culture of your valiant remote ancestors!!! I only wish I could meet a group of like-minded "presumed" Assyriologists so that I could discuss topics and issues - such as the first known writer, the poetess Enheduanna - the High Priestess of the God Nanna (Sin or Suen in Akkadian) in the city of Ur. I was just wondering if you would know (or care about it).
