I have A LOT to say because I've always thought Asta was an underrated character. One day, I decided to reread the fight between Asta and Yosuga on my physical copy, and when I reached the part where Yosuga said that Asta's attacks lack conviction, it actually hit me. Asta had always doubted himself, but he kept hiding it instead of facing it head on. I think the first chapter of the series kind of set up his self doubt pretty good, because at that first instance he was told he had no magic, he gave up. He got over that, but it still lingered. It wasn't until the final saga that it came back, but more potent. The Hino arc I think solidified Asta's character development. He's now stronger than he ever was before, both physically and mentally. Also, I love Asta and Yuno's rivalry because of how they share similar thoughts about each other. They both get jealous of each other's growth, but still show to be confident and proud of each other. Whenever Asta managed to surprise everyone by showing them what he's capable of, Yuno isn't surprised and that's because he always knew Asta could do it. The way they talk to each other seems like playful banter, but it's them hyping each other up. They're like their own hype men. People pass off their rivalry as generic, but it's something special.

I think about the message Tabata's trying to convey with this final arc, and I think you nailed it when you asked "What it takes to be a Wizard King?" It was a topic in the Volume 23.5 novels too, during the conversation Asta has with Julius. I think that was an intentional hint towards the "Ultimate Wizard King" arc. Asta's struggle with self-doubt is something I don't really see get talked about much and I really liked the Hino journey because of that, so I'm glad this video exists. Thank you! Looking forward to the next one😁

Another example of this was during the early arcs where Asta watches Yami fight Patry and his self doubt emerges for a moment. He wonders if he can reach the likes of Yami, Yuno and Julius.

Great vid. If the anime ever comes back this arc will be even better because i feel it could use a little more dialogue overall. The depth of this series is always glossed over because it doesn't try to be overly complex which is both good and bad imo

This paladin Yrul was definitely wasted. While he himself isn’t that particularly powerful his bogeyman was something others wouldn’t have come by so easily. Even when Asta cut him down, his monster still remained and wrecked the place. If he’d awakened demon Licht‘s skeleton, it would have been literally over.
