He's a Legend yes, but everything that's mainstream is trash and has been for years. I remember back in the first half of the 10's when both mainstream art and indie art was good quality. Now mainstream has utterly gone to shit and only indie art still has high quality products here and there. Its like the entire mainstream art world was taken over by people with no talent...hmmm...perhaps for ideological reasons?
@icecoldpolitics8890 Жыл бұрын
@@StarboyXL9 It's called corporatization. It's not an ideological cause as you are suggesting. The majority of major productions these days are owned by major corporations not small or medium sized studios movies like back in those days. Corporations are the major producers in hollywood now and the result is that rather then movies needing heart and sole necessarily behind them in order for the ideas to be brought to fruition it is instead about investors trying to find the most easily successful projects to cash in and make money. It's why you get so many remakes because theoretically and in a boardroom it makes sense but in reality pulling off a good reboot/remake takes time and dedication to understand the original product. The problem with Hollywood isn't ideology it's that it's all become apart of a small group of corporations like disney and Warner Brothers who only care about making money first and are afraid to try anything. Indy movies need to be unique and bring interesting ideas to succeed, while major productions have marketing campaigns and long standing franchises to deal with this is why monopolies are bad for innovation they don't need to change to make money they can rely on established products.

Removing a bunch of frames and molesting half of the remainder with motion blur didn't help either. It also seemed to be sped up quite a bit, I'm not sure if it was some half arsed attempt to make the marines look faster but it completely ruined the deliberate, relentless feel of the original. Especially with the sound changes. They seemed determined to leave their mark on every aspect of it so we couldn't forget for a moment that GW was responsible for the video, and therefor ruining it in the process. So mission accomplished I guess? It certainly looks more like the crap they put out, although on the higher end admittedly. One thing that did catch my eye was that they made it easier to see the marine's optics after his lens cracked which was interesting to see, but I'm not sure if it was an overall improvement and was probably just due to the increased brightness. The Astartes project is based off of the Warhammer: 40,000 (or 40k for short) universe. The Astartes (or Space Marines) are bio-engineered super warriors that serve and protect The Imperium of Man, a vast galaxy spanning human empire 40,000 years in the future. In this video, the astartes of this specific faction were hunting down the leaders of a rebellion against the Imperium. What they found was that the rebels were under the control of an unknown, psychic alien species (the spheres). The guy in the red coat was something called a psyker, a powerful psychic individual who was able to listen in on the telepathic conversations of the spheres. The red coat with the skull in the middle of the capitol "I" meant that he was also a member of the God-Emperor's Holy Inquisition, the most powerful organization within the Imperium. He became possessed when he lost focus to warn the Astartes about what he had heard and said "Withdraw them immediately!" . In case you're wondering what the spheres said to each other, here it is: Sphere 1: "Brother, I have failed." Sphere 2: "We have all failed." Sphere 1: "The Astartes deny our touch." Sphere 2: "You must return, break your seal" Sphere 1: "Impossible! We will never survive" Sphere 2: "You must. Take them!" The Warhammer 40k universe is VAST and deep with practically mountains of lore. It is arguably the greatest sci-fi universe ever created. You guys will not be disappointed in learning more about it. Welcome to the rabbit hole, brothers. Another thing some people also miss, at the end when he's standing on the pillars, in the distance when you see all the giant skeletons, you can see other flashes of lights of the other marines teleport in the same area as the one we saw

One of my favourite details of this whole masterpiece is during the scene where the Inquisitorial Agent listens in on the conversation between the orbs. They are all communicating btw, they're just doing it over their helmet comms. You hear him yelling (although muffled) "Get them out of there, immediately!", an information the Captain relays to the other Marine who takes off running. And when the Agent gets possessed by the orb, those noises he makes, through his helmet? He must be screaming at the top of his lungs. A quick aside, when someone gets possessed like that, punching him in the face won't make much of a difference. The several shots into him while he's down are not a precaution, but entirely warranted. Anyway. Every single shot sends out a little shockwave that sends the Captains cape flying just that little bit more. Just... the attention to detail is amazing.

@@ChompStudio What makes it especially great is just how much the creator gets right, lore wise. Most 40k games and media tend to generalize a lot of stuff, or forgot/gloss over things, but this guy get's the lore spot on. The bolter rounds are a perfect example of this, a lot of times they're treated as just large caliber rounds, but in this he treats them as rockets, and shows us clearly when they hit the shields. You can actually see that they're still trying to propel themselves as they hit the tk barrier and stop dead, then a few seconds later, they all explode as they reach the end of their fuse time. Anyone else would probably have just had them all explode upon impact and be done with. It's these kinds of touches that really show off how much care and attention was put into the whole production, and there's tons of things like this throughout. To your critique about the ending with the other marines being teleported in while your eye is actually being drawn to the landscape up above, I do tend to agree with you. This version is slightly different from the original as the original had different music with bass hits when each guy was teleported in. However, even when I watched that version originally I didn’t notice it at first because I was also taking in the landscape and how detailed and megalithic it feels. It wasn’t until I got in the comments that I saw it mentioned and had to catch it on a rewatch where I noticed that the drum hits of the music coincided with each teleport. That all being said, this genuinely feels like an opening sequence of a movie. We get introduced to this squad and as we go through we just have more and more questions. If this was a movie then I’d assume it would pick up with this squad in the new area trying to figure out what those orbs were and what the orbs were trying to do, where they are now, and how they’re going to get back to where they came from. Other questions are things like who were the guys with the psychic powers and what were they doing with the orbs, what’s that giant human-like thing they were in the process of building, what was their goal, etc… Overall this is just an excellent setup and intro for the beginning of a movie and I think most who’ve seen it would agree with me. I’m not big into 40k, I only know the basics about the universe and lore, but I’d totally watch a feature length movie built off of this as long as the kept the guy who created it at the helm because he clearly has an exceptional understanding of the 40k universe, and how to tell a story in it. I don’t think it would work as well if it were live action either. Hopefully GE has got him running his own team creating something big because as far as I’m aware nothing else like this has come out since they hired him. If they don’t then they’re wasting an incredible talent and potential gold mine. I know animated films take a long time to make, and it took him 4 years to make this by himself, so I could understand it taking many years to make a full movie even with a full team to back him. Either way, what he created is a masterpiece and I’m glad he and it are getting the credit they deserve.

It's funny that you'd mention at the end how the other space marines teleporting in might be a little detail for rewatchers; there's plenty of those in this animation: we get a second of IR vision from the space marines' perspective right after they board, the autocannon guy in the hallway has a spotter with him, the floating spines you saw. I've rewatched this animation so many times, and I didn't even notice you can see the psyker's shield bubble for a second when the marines open fire. That said, GW seems to have removed one little section where they pass the knives around right before they stab the orb, I wonder why.

What I like about the lighting is how much it reminds of painting Space Marines (the super soldiers). They are definitely the miniatures I paint the most, and when I apply highlights I keep it pretty simple and imagine there is a single light source directly above each model. Shooting the Psyker (the word used about psychic people in 40k) would not have been enough. He was going through a possession, which in 40k is *BAD* a possession can lead to any number of things, from a single demon forcing its way into our world, to a tear in reality, letting demons and chaos energies flow freely into our realm. Their reaction was, if anything, quite underwhelming and only the bare minimum needed to "secure" the individual from causing more harm with their demise. The psyker was already dead when he was grabbed, he just didn't know it. and indeed, he is battleworn. the studs on his forehead is an indicator of years of service. silver stud means 10 years, gold stud equals 50 or 100 years, depending on the chapter. So this marine has seen either 70, or 120 years of active service on the battlefields of the Emperor.

fun fact: warhammer hired the guy who made this animation
@crimsonknight7011 Жыл бұрын
Warhammer+ I would say is not worth it and scummy. Before it came out they put a ban on any fans making any animations as it would be a threat to them, they barely released anything during the weekly drops, and you could tell it was done with little passion or had higher ups interfering in it only seeing costs and profits. The stuff they released was nothing compared to the fan animations. It always feels like Games Workshop is at war with their fanbase because anytime we like something they strip it away, chop away what we liked about it, and then try to sell it back to us at a premium price. Also you can tell their views of the community with how the KZbin page has comments disabled, and apparently any negative comments on other sites are deleted.

Oh no.....well I definitely don't like the sound of that.

This is mostly nonsense. There's a lot of people who don't fully understand the situation yet they try to spread all this hate for games workshop. They only went after people who were making money off their ip. No one ever got sued and there's been fan animations since then. Most of the fan films ended due to the decision of the creators, not because they were forced to. The stuff on warhammer tv is quite good. The creator of helsreach (a must watch!) got hired by gw to make a show and now we have the excellent angels of death. While there's not a ton on warhammer tv, what's there is good. Gw is not some evil conglomerate. They're a small international corporation that was protecting their biggest moneymaker which is 40k.

they went after everything. fanfics, fan animations, every single venue they could think of. Hell, I STILL have to add (Unofficial) in the title of every fanfic I write just to avoid getting slammed by their lawyers

@@xxchaos315xx6 the stuff on wahmmer tv is good? What are you smoking? Bruva Alfabusa made better content, and he uses still images, the same as them

@@xxchaos315xx6no, GW went after ANYBODY for IP infringement regardless of whether they were profiting or not. Writers, animators, artists, sculptors, game moddest, Dinae matter, they’ve all been hit by GW. They may have since pulled back a little bit, but there are many, MANY artists and creators out there who’ve received C&Ds for as little as having ‘40k” in their username….

The original still here on youtube is better, Syama's sound direction and soundtrack were better in all and it seems that Games Workshop cut out a few scenes.

Yeah bummer.....few have mentioned the same issue.

@@ChompStudio Yeah. As a looong time fan/follower of WH40K stuff (since the 90s), and as a early watcher of Astartes (sitting and waiting for the next episode over a year or so, this was originally 5 small episodes, over 1 or 2 years). Seen it many times and seen many reactions, as this is my favorite 40K animation (so far). The Warhammer TV version is a bit different. Some small scenes seem to be cut, and the score are a bit different (witch actually makes a big difference imho). My verdict is that the original is slightly better. Just watch it and compare (it can be found here on the Tube). Great reaction btw. And also, there are transcripts or subtitled versions also out there some where, that show what is said during the two orbs scene, jfyi. Cheers.

I'd pay money to understand how they made that so good! The textures, atmosphere, sounds, lighting, and effects are incredible. It's insane that one person has taken computer generated graphics to a whole new level.

No kidding...I think a lot of people would. Would be the perfect master class series!

I appreciate the way you managed to review and give your thoughts without turning the original video in to one double its length by stopping it every 5 seconds to talk and rewinding. A skill every other reviewer on the damn platform could benefit from learning.

Thats insane, I have watched the Astartes animation countless times, and only when you pointed out that fact that he's not alone at the end did i see it, just wow.

From Personal Viewing, to showing others. I've racked up at least 16 different viewings of this series. From watching reaction videos to WH40K players, experts, and chapter masters, I've seen 7. From watching filmmakers, audio/visual designers, and set piece experts, I've seen 5. You are my 5th viewing of this animation from a designer standpoint. But you are the ONLY one to notice the other teleportation/appearance of the entities on the pillars in the midground. You pointed something out I've missed in every other viewing experience; and recognition from other viewers of this animation. Such a subtle detail did not escape your eyes, be it from multiple viewings, to intelligence from past cinema experience. You noticed it. That alone deserves this subscription!
