Digital Numbers raw data has no scientific meaning as it erected from many components (like Sun irradiance, atmospheric effects, surface radiance, .... etc) ENVI reads ASTER L1B data at radiance at sensor directly, this should be converted to Reflectance at top of atmosphere and finally to Surface Reflectance (after atmospheric correction) this is essential for accurate image spectrometric studies Kind Regards

This equation for just limiting your reflectance data between 0 and 1 to b comparable with most spectral libraries. ENVI multiplies the resulted surface reflectance data by a scale factor of 10000 to convert the heavy floating data to low sized integer data. all we do is to convert it back to float (decimal) So, you do not need references in this arithmetic expression Best regards
