@@allensaunders449 Good point. I'm really comparing this to her singing on Metal, which is the first song I heard her sing on. This is a big step up from that. They put out a new song a couple of days ago with vocals that also sounds good (and has a great music video).
Vocals are fantastic on this. Well done ASTERISM ✨️

Some artists are said to consider their instruments as extensions of their bodies. I truly feel this way about each member of Asterism, not just technically but also soulfully and musically. And now, with the addition of vocals, I simply can't take my eyes off these incredibly talented musicians.

My favourite of this album 🤘....I was surprised when I heard of the potential release of this EP, somewhat worrying that adding vocals (despite what everyone was suggesting) would take away the unique formula that made ASTERISM so phenomenal, the space for intuitive connection of instrumental expression between the members as vocal will inevitably restrict or rather frame song structures in particular ways. But I must say it works... Haruka's talent is simply endless. Great vocals and still retain the ASTERISM signature sound. It made me realise that what's truly great about this band is not only their phenomenal musicianship but their drive to innovate and constantly challenge themselves. Cannot wait to hear what the next project will be. Looks like ASTERISM wil forever be one of my all-time favourite bands🤘🤘🤘

This is brilliantly done, adding vocals without losing anything instrumentally.We shouldn't be surprised, because the songwriting has always been up there with the musicianship.

Glad Hal-Ca is singing now! I used to pester their manager a couple of years ago to get her to sing. They are certainly great instrumentally, but it's so hard to get a break these days, and so vocals will help get them more recognition. It's tough for a totally instrumental band to make a living, no matter how good they are, unfortunately.

I guess it's a minority opinion, but I really don't feel like vocals were missing. Now don't get me wrong, it's a good song, but instrumental music and music with vocals just fundamentally have a different dynamic to them. I am impressed at how quickly HAL-CA managed to reach this level of vocalist chops, but I do sincerely hope that they still will continue to release instrumental tracks. They *are* just very different compositions. However, as long as they do make the music *they* want to make, it's all good.
@maidsandmuses Жыл бұрын
I've been following my favourite bands for longer than I care to remember. Trust me, with the talent these three young musicians display you don't need to worry, provided they stick together. The best bands don't get stuck on a fixed sound or formula; they will experiment, learn, and evolve. They will occasionally take a detour in a direction that not all fans appreciate (at first anyway), but more often than not will circle back to something that is even better than they ever produced before. As you say, as long as they get to make the music *they* want to make themselves, it will be fine.
@MaartenT Жыл бұрын
These vocals are very produced, they don't really sound like their actual voices. I watched a liveset yesterday (the VOD is still up on twtcstng) and while I do think she did a great job (all 3 of them did), they are not as clean as this sounds, especially on the first vocal track they did (it wasn't pretty at first). I actually think the vocal tracks work better mixed in with instrumental tracks in a live set than on an album. But to be fair, I am not a huge fan of overly produced vocals in general and this production sound like Su's vocals in a studio Babymetal album to me, so that might be why I prefer most vocal tracks live. Their live set was really good though. So yes, I completely agree with you. I actually think it detracts from the technicality of their music, but if it's their own decision I guess I am ok with it even though it's less for me than their instrumental music. I also think they are rapidly improving their vocals, it is impressive. And as a last thing, I actually do enjoy their song "Metal" (but I'm also already used to it for a while). They finished the set with it and I couldn't help rocking out to it.
@guybrushthreepwood1519 Жыл бұрын
@@MaartenT Pretty much as i see it. I really don't mind them broadening their repertoire, and I'm always wary people might (intentionally) misunderstand... There's just so few (awesome) instrumental bands around, if you exclude fusion/jazz, which i find rather sad, since it just adds a different flavor of music, I do enjoy. There just doesn't seem to be much demand for it. (Now I feel the need to listen to some D_Drive :P ) In my mind, though, if they end up somewhere close to what you might expect of Rush, that'd be awesome. And honestly, Geddy's voice isn't for everyone either :)
@MaartenT Жыл бұрын
@@guybrushthreepwood1519 That's basically how I see it too. I will always respect an artist making their own decisions on how to further their career, I think that's super important, but there are not enough great instrumental bands and there are too many bands with vocalists. That said, a lot of people apparently can't feel attached to instrumental music, so I understand why they tried it out especially since so many people were shouting about it online. It's just a field that's overpopulated and way more difficult to dominate in and I personally just prefer the unique instrumental sound they have. I also wish they would release this (and Animetic if that's allowed) as a CD, but that's just because digital only doesn't really work for how I like acquire my music and support bands. And as far as D_Drive goes, I like them but they don't do it for me as much as Asterism does with their instrumentals. I am not really sure why, they are also really talented though.
@guybrushthreepwood1519 Жыл бұрын
@@MaartenT At any rate they still are *really* young, lots of time to find their own sound, i guess. And while I do enjoy instrumental music a lot, a big part of that is the compositional freedom, the departure from your usual song structure. Thankfully there are bands more on the progressive side of things that do have vocals but also don't really give a crap about traditional song structures. I'm thinking the likes of Sokoninaru, Maximum The Hormone or tricot. But then again, I was partly socialised with bands from Pink Floyd to Emerson, Lake And Palmer, The Nice and whatnot, so it's no wonder a song like Asterism's Dawn *does it* for me more. Who knows, maybe our trio here will become a japanese version of Dirty Loops, that'd be something :) As for D_Drive, they are a mixed bag, I do like a lot of their stuff, but some songs sound almost like they were written with lyrics in mind. There's sometimes odd gaps, but all in all they are something i come back to regularly.
@virtuosodm3327 Жыл бұрын
The Japanese have definitely developed their own unique sound of "modern" metal,Altough it is not my " cup of tea",I tremendously respect that they are "real" musicians who have actually sacrificed many hours to develop skills on instruments, unlike the mainstream garbage of rap,hip hop we have in the USA here.And Japanese females are Kawaii ,lol🙂
@MaartenT Жыл бұрын
It's not bad, they all do a good job (the vocals are somewhat overproduced though), but I personally prefer instrumental Asterism over the vocal tracks by a lot. I really hope this was a decission made by the band and not by the label/management. Because even if I as a fan don't care for it, what the artists want should always be a priority. I did really enjoy the live set they did on April 12th on "Made In Heaven Vol 10" though, I do think it works to mix up the vocal tracks with instrumental tracks.
