As a former member of theatre and as a cinephile, I love this movie. However, I understand the complexity behind comprehending it, isn't to everyone's taste. I'm sure people wanted to see the film, as presented by the trailer. So do I, to a certain extent. But Asteroid City, for what it is, is great. However, if you go in wanting it to be something else, then you won't like it.

I respect this movie. Wes Anderson could just keep making the same movies over and over, but here he took risks, broke his own boundaries, while remaining undeniably Wes Anderson. It’s not his best movie, but it’s a breath of fresh air in his oeuvre.

@quiroz923
@quiroz923 Жыл бұрын
@@Dinkywinkyxo he’s played with hyper textual framing before (notably in the Grand Budapest Hotel, among other examples ), but he’s never done it in this Brechtian, postmodern sort of way. Sure, he’s dipped his toes in it, but this is the first time I’ve seen him actually go for alienation effect. His little framing devices had always amounted to charming (or cloy) little games. He never stopped being the easily accessible family drama guy. But here he actually decided to use some old avant-garde in a text that explicitly refuses to make sense. It’s still a family drama told in a Wes Anderson style, but he expands his style a bit into the old avant-garde. That’s what I mean with a breath of fresh air. He’s already perfected how to make a Wes Anderson movie, now he can see what else he can do with one. That’s what he did here. And sure, the alienation effect and postmodern framing devices aren’t ground breaking, but they feel new in Wes Anderson. Like, has anyone ever looked at Wes Anderson and thought post modern before? Or Brechtian? When I say it like that, it makes Asteroid City sound better than it actually is, lol. But still, it’s different within his oeuvre.

It felt good to be in a crowded theater full of real people laughing at parts, crying at other parts, somewhat relating and definitely tuning within and tuning into each other lovingly/caringly. “I wouldn’t dare to fix the twist in you.” (Quote by Sick Puppies). That’s how I feel about the realness of care and hope I feel in society. Glad we can all just relax and be out with ourselves together.

I'm convinced now that Wes Anderson needs to direct the Fallout Series

His films are mostly dark comedies and usually set in 1 location with barley any action. Anderson does not fit the profile of his work. I think someone with experience in action and a good track record of good writing like Christopher Nolan would be perfect. He is the only writer/director capable of making a good DC superhero movies with the Dark Knight Trilogy. Speaking of which, he is about to release “Oppenheimer” which is about the guy that oversaw the creation of the first nuclear weapons in the 1930s & 40s. Pretty much the fallout era.

His style looks like it's a cartoon in a movie medium And I mean hand-drawn cartoons, because the frames are mostly static, as are the backgrounds, and characters are **placed** on those backgrounds and are usually the only thing moving

This is Anderson paying tribute to modern blockbusters by saluting the childhoods of the men who invented them. In 1955 Spielberg was 8, Lucas was 11, and Cameron was just 1.
