Thanks for watching! Is the DB7 the prettiest car ever? What gets your vote?
@coolcat235 ай бұрын
Yeah nah, the DB7's design is too roundish for this type of car, AFAIC. I think the DB9 is an improvement. Flowing curves are great, but there needs to be some edge to the design, AFAIC.

I know I'm going for the obvious here, but the Bentley Continental GT is achingly beautiful and I think the Jaguar XJ comes in a close second. I do love those large grand tourers.

Nah I don’t see it as pretty !! I see a jelly mould car. 😂 But then I don’t see my R129 as pretty But rather have the SL than the Aston

One car that should rank pretty highly on "pretty car" list, AFAIC, is the Ferrari 360 Modena. I'd give the BMW 850 CSi (E31) at least an honourable mention as well. Perhaps it lacks a bit of flair, but it is the only BMW design I like, that must count for something. :) A black Citroen DS23 Pallas is something to behold as well.

So am I the first owner to comment? Had my 1996 chiltern Green series 1 for 10 years. To answer your question- yes, randoms come up and ask me about it. I only cover about 300 miles a year but had comments in petrol stations, supermarket car parks and thumbs up from the street.

I have to say i lusted after a DB7 for ages, love the looks but the more i found out about them and the more Aston people i spoke to i got scared of what lies beneath. Rust! They are renowned for it. I had a drive in a DB9 and was absolutely smitten & you only need to worry about the rear subframe rotting & the driving experience is another level! I took the plunge and went for an onyx black DB9 coupe & i love it! Great video by the way!👍👏👏👏♥️

I love my Vantage Volante, a dream car to ride, and easy to keep in good order. Huge nut and bolts to work on, basic early modules , & basic crossover parts with workshop manuals reprinted for peanuts. . I can't see a downside, I've had her for 4 months and its awesome. DB9 onwards seem too complex., main dealer territory.

I had a DB9 and went backwards to a 7. Honestly I found the 9 more DIY friendly.

Great review JJ. I have I have one 1997 with the same specs. It has taken me to rebuild complete car about 2 years inside out, because previous owner destroyed original Aston Martin engine in addition to another Jaguar 6 in line engine. Replaced old leather all over except the front seats. I really like this car. I have driven the car about 4000km, but not challenging the the engine too much maximum 160km/h. I will push it more after 6000-7000km. It is very solid and stable car. I have the problem fixing the cruise control but I would look at it soon, it is not essential for driving at the moment.

Clarkson said it cornered like it was nailed to the road. Park it next to a modern Mazda 3 and you'll see how small the DB7 is. An i6 is on my bucket list of 3 cars still to own.
@jeremyshaw59632 ай бұрын
I've got one of these, I love it and it gives some people a smile too. Which is great! It's pretty basic engineering under the skin, some of it dating back to the 60s! If you have some experience working on cars you'll be fine with an i6. If not, you'd better have deep pockets. Like any machine it must be used. Leave it in the garage and you will have problems when you tootle to the pub one a year! Happy motoring!

It certainly is (one of the) prettyist cars ever made. I remember seeing it in the Mayfair showroom window in '94, and thinking at last Aston were making a really good looking car again, after the atrocious V8 bodykitted later cars, V8 Zagato and the awful 'Virage'

Maaaaate!! My CLK brother in the UK 👍 That is a sweet Aston Martin. In actual fact, the car I feel is the most beautiful every created IS in fact an Aston Martin. It's the Lagonda. Mate, the Lagonda makes my heart skip a beat, just looking at a photo - I have never actually seen one living in the UK, or here in Australia. One word - "Exquisite". Maintenance on the DB7 (or any Aston for that matter) seems to be up there with my Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. They are a mistress unto themselves, requiring their custodian to possess deep pockets and a big heart. But for the "girl" of your dreams, no obstacle is going to restrain you. Cheers for another 11/10 review man, you rock!!👍
@JJonCars5 ай бұрын
Thanks mate!! I love that you like the Lagonda - it's quite a strange one especially for an Aston. The digital dash features were crazy for the time. But you're right, you just never ever see them, even in their 'home country'. I bet they turn heads like nothing else. Cheers :)

@@JJonCars There was a "Cornish Gold" (the early cars had evocative names after British places) DB7 coupe for sale when I was looking for mine. There have been a handful since. I rejected them as a retrim was uneconomic - all of them had black or grey interiors completely at odds with the earth tone exterior. This is true for most all premium British brands. Yet if you go abroad to Italy, USA, UAE, Japan, Europe etc the exact same car colours like gold green and red will be paired with tans, browns or beige. Someone somewhere in the car industry has decreed that we British are boring and will only accept Magnolia Grey and Black. 😮💨

Been thinking of buying a used F Type v8 or Aston DB9. 2009-2011....which one would you go for?
@JJonCars5 ай бұрын
Well, I imagine the F Type would, all things equal, be a lot more reliable and lower cost to maintain. But a DB9 is something special. I think it would depend on how much cash I had spare for maintenance - DB9 if I had lots, F Type if not 😆

It’s the gearboxes and ancient Salisbury limited slip diff that kills mpg. Revs are way too high even in the V12. I get 15-18 out if mint. A disgrace really. DB9 on have lovely ZFs and do 20 plus.
