I would absolutely love to see more clips of the judge’s reactions as they watch the dances, love it when they’re shown

I thought this too; was more focused on Shirley, Darcey and Bruno leaping from their seats to watch the footwork than the dance itself haha

Fantastic choreography, his posture was superb, it had sway, great movement round the floor, exquisite musicality. His footwork was almost perfect, it would have been perfect but he was a little bit flat footed, and they also broke hold during the dance. It was another fabulous number, with great, really astonishing attention to details and perfect musicality... but it could have been even better. An 8.

I feel like this would be the sort of dance the judges will pick to redo if he makes the final. I hope so, because I really enjoyed it and he could definitely get 10s for it then!

First the goods. In terms of ballroom techniques he certainly has improved from his week one Foxtrot. Quickstep sometimes may be seen as a sped-up Foxtrot actually (for me at least). But I saw gapping at times and he looked like he's struggling with the routine, is the music too fast for him? It felt it could just about go wrong, but he kept to just at the edge. I feel that Aston is going to be more a latin boy. 7.5

He also had a problem with his butt sticking out throughout the dance. He needs to learn how to tuck it in and keep it tucked in in Ballroom dances.

Great song choice, but I'm just not sold on him. As an obvious ringer I threw all my initial support behind him, but then he said "Strictlified" and I'm never going to recover from that. Another big problem here, for me at least, can be articulated by quoting Ian Waite "Jeanette's a Salsa champion or whatever". Yes, I realise that none of this has anything to do with their dancing - but I needed to vent. His frame was decent, I don't think the judges care about Gapping - you could have landed a passenger jet between Aljaz and Abbey Clancy during their Quickstep and she ended up winning. His foot work particularly in the Charleston steps was really sloppy. But the theming was really cute.

He’s good but much better out of hold. I thought he was gonna be good at the quickstep because he’s light and fast on his feet anyway.

It SEEMS that men with African descendants have a harder time with the butt-thing. Maybe body shape has a little to do with it? Also see a lot of comments about his feet but I also saw where some say he's a ringer. Is he truly a ringer? People with dance training master pigeon-toesedness.

I don't know why but I felt the music choice was odd.I thought the staging of the routine was clever with the silhouettes. Technically I think he probably found this a stretch but he is a showman and his confidence and bravado pull him through.

Aston was disappointing I thought, although the hopscotch is pretty nice, but I think he shows his personality more in the Latin, thought this would be his dance but sadly not, there was a bit too much of the same thing, yes there's a story but it was very emotionless which is probably expected for a quickstep but he did dance good just a bit contentless, is the Jannet bad at ballroom theory coming true? I would give at most 8

zehava101 it is only my opinion and I agree with you that Alexandra isnt perfect and I don't really like her but she did do an amazing dance tonight and this was disappointing especially after last week. Aston has also had dance training which is probably why his expectations are so high I just thought this was mediocre

Too self indulgent again... those winks at the camera... ugh! Wasn't great at the dance either, poor technique he was pigeon toed thought and the kicks were poor sadly. Music seemed just too fast. I did like the routine though. Janette's lack of Ballroom experience will let him down. Shame I loved them last week.

I think Alexandra is the one who thinks she will win. And it looks like she should because it looks like she's had tons of dance training. Aston is gifted. But you know he wasn't part of any formal dance training because he has feet issues. They would've drummed that into him when he was a kid. So he's probably excited about learning something new. And it looks like he and Janette get along.

No formal dance training... really? metro.co.uk/2017/08/16/why-celebrities-like-aston-merrygold-should-be-banned-from-strictly-come-dancing-6854428/
@new735758

Tempus Fugit. Thanks for the article. This reads like Aston has natural rhythm/gymnast ability and was taught choreography for a specific thing. The thing about "natural" anything is it probably doesn't follow the established rules. So you'll have to undo all the things that come natural to you. This season will not be long enough to get rid of all the bad habits. If you do a great performance, you'll probably have some of the "natural" things to pop up. If you get the established rules, you probably won't be as entertaining. You'll still be good but not as entertaining as you can be. I think of formal dance training as including body control for all types, feet placement, limb expression, flexibility, dance posture etc. Things that are transferable to any dance style so that you can just focus on the particulars of the dance style. But the competition is unfair--old vs young is the biggie. I've always thought that because the comparison is unfair was the reason for the seemingly unfair scoring.
