We don't hate Jack at all. There was definitely some animosity around the leave as we were trying to really build the team around him, but we were able to snap up Bailey and Buendia who were both instrumental in past years. If anything I'm sad about it, because he's clearly pissing away his prime years playing a boring style under Pep. There's no denying it wins them games and cups, but the Jack Grealish at Villa was way more entertaining to watch than really any of his performances at city. Just sad.

I’m not as bitter as I once was about it, but the reason for the hate is that he wanted to leave from day 1. He wanted to move to Spurs when they offered Josh Onomah + £30m, he wanted to move to Man Utd the season after, then pushed for a release clause in his contract whilst constantly feeding us the “this is my club” bollocks. Every one of us hated Delph when he did that, and he wasn’t even a Villa fan…What kind of Villa fan gets punched at St Andrews, scores the winner then says “this is the best day of my life” when he’s given the number 10 shirt at Man City? People say “he’s won a treble” but he’s opted for easy trophies over being a legend at his boyhood club. The butterfly effect of getting Unai in the end is what saved us, not the £100m from Jack - we almost got relegated as a result of him leaving

@TheHobatron3 ай бұрын
12:10 This is incorrect, really. Emery absolutely wants to keep possession when possible and we pass it around the back and midfield far more than ever before. Villa fans have had to learn patience under his management. However, as you did point out, Emery is tactically very astute and the key thing is, he can do both. We were very direct against Bayern as we looked to catch them out quickly on counters or through Martinez long balls, and and in *some* games we'll adopt that approach. In others we'll look to slow the tempo and create the space before launching an attack. Pau Torres is absolutely key to our style in that regard; few centre-backs have his level of vision and distribution.

Firstly, people say that faulty goal line technology saved Villa from being relegated in 2020 but they forget that earlier in the season Villa were denied a win at Crystal Palace when referee Kevin Friend mistakenly disallowed a goal by Henry Lansbury, mistakes happen all the time and generally even out over a season so you cannot determine what should have happened in a season by just referring to one incident in one match. Secondly, it wasn't the fact that Jack Grealish was transferred to Man City that angered the fans, it was the manner in which he went, 10 months earlier he'd signed a new 5 year contract with the club declaring publicly his desire to "see the project out" adding...""Everyone knows what claret and blue means to me, I've been a Villa boy all my life, and I love playing for this club." If you're going to go then go but don't start kissing the badge one minute then bragging that you're going to a better club with the "best manager in the World" and expect that the fans you used to stand with on the Holte teraaces will respect you.

I think that Aston Villa is demonstrating a level of stability that could see it as a Top 6 club for a while. When we look at other clubs that have experienced a lack of stability during Villa's rise, we are in a situation where if they don't get themselves together, they will not be able to compete with Villa to the point of bumping them from the Top 4, let alone Top 6. I would say based on present stability, for better or worse, the current most stable Top 4 clubs are Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa. I think Chelsea, Spurs, and Newcastle will compete for the remaining two spots until they can gel/stabilize. I think Chelsea is showing signs of stabilization this season, which means it's a race between Newcastle and Spurs to see who'll round out the Top 6 of the current era. As for Aston Villa, they currently seem like they have the potential to be reliably Top 4 for a while, but as far as winning cups and trophies...The club may run into the same problem that Arsenal had for a while toward the end ofArsene Wenger's tenure: Reliably Top 4 but not in the conversation for titles or trophies. Able to participate in the CL year over year, but not good enough (yet) to win the whole thing. The difference between Villa and Arsenal fans is that Villa fans will be slower to throw Emery under the bus, having fully realized how far they came in such a short time, and grateful for the level of class they're seeing on the pitch. The real danger is in having elite clubs like Real Madrid start hanging around, unsettling players, and making it difficult for Villa to go to that level. Then there's the threat of losing players to direct PL competitors. If Villa can weather these concerns and spend sensibly, it should remain a Top 6 club. As good as Unai Emery has been for Villa, I'm not sure what the odds are of him lifting Aston Villa to the degree that the team can handily win the Premier or Champions League. When it comes to winning elite honors, Villa will either be happy to stagnate in the Top 4/5 and collect a domestic trophy on occasion, or they will have to keep an eye out for an elite-level manager who has experience winning league and Champions League titles. I just wonder how the fans will treat Emery should so many seasons go by and Villa is reliably Top 4 but hasn't won a PL or CL honor. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition and not what we saw with Wenger and the Arsenal fans.

The goal line technology stuff, as you rightly say, there was 10 games left when this happened. It was also in the first half. If that goal had been given, we have a whole 2nd half and some change to equalise. After the Covid break, we purposefully become a more defensive side as we were leaking goals prior to it. So if we were 1 down, we'd have obviously been more attacking, instead of sticking to our new more solid style. If we equalise, we may even go on and win the game. We may lose. We may draw. It's all ifs, buts, maybes. It's utterly nonsense to ever bring it up. And when talking about this mythical next goal wins in a professional 90 minute premier league football match, Aston Villa were denied a perfectly good last kick of the game goal away at Palace. This literally denied us a point. And I know everyone gets bad decisions, but I have never known us to have so many bad decisions in one season. I mean in the very same Sheff Utd game, we should have had 2 penalties!! But this of course gets no mention. The hawkeye / GLT is really boring. And still gets brought up to this day, and I imagine it will for the rest of my life.

RE: Jack Grealish. Initial anger, then and now just complete indifference towards him. Most people choose to never listen when they ask why we were angry... he signed a new deal the year before. Said he believed in the Club and the project. This is home. He's here to stay for the long term etc all the sound bites. Obviously, players say lots of things, but he has always talked about being a villa fan and its dream etc to captain us and win something with us and play in Europe. And he is a local lad. We believed him. For contrast, Jacob Ramsey is a Villa fan, he was in the away end the game Jack got punched. JJ never gives any of these soundbites. A few months after signing this deal, he told his agent to get him a move! This is from Sam Lee, the Man City Athletic journo, who had reported he was signing for City for a long time. And of course he had this release clause put in, so he could move! He has also tried to leave us numerous times before. Spurs were in for him at one point. Man Utd were in for him at another. Chelsea were before he even played for us and he tried to move unless he got a big contract, which I don't begrudge him for btw... you ignore this though, as what's the point doing anything else if he is still at the Club and playing well.. After staying up, many of us thought he would have left and didn't begrudge it. But he leaves us when it looked like we could truly kick on and compete for top 6/7 spots. And if he had stayed fit (or didn't have a sleeping pill problem, if you believe rumours), and did not miss half the season, we would definitely have competed for top 6 that year, rather than finish 11th (a record point tally for 11th I believe I read btw). So it's the lies, the timing, and always trying to get a move with the almost faux Villa fan shtick to get fan support, rather than be genuine with it. With hindsight, it was a great thing for us, obviously £100m in the bank was vital with FFP.. But at the time, many of us wanted to keep him and would have happily sold us others and not spend. He was our Totti. Our talisman. And it was a joy to watch him in a Villa shirt. Not so much in an MC shirt.
