Don’t underestimate how much so many fans want to win a trophy. It’s huge! I’d happily take 6th/7th next season but win Carabao Cup/ FA Cup. If we nothing under Emery with this squad it would be absolutely criminal. The likes of McGinn, Mings, Martinez, Konsa, Watkins etc deserve it so much.

If we finish 6th/7th and lose lucrative ucl revenue,we will have to sell players and downgrade again. I'd definitely choose finish top 4 and get into ucl for that revenue and grow the club first. once we are top 4 consistently,our revenue will increase and can afford better player to solidify top 4 and maybe win ucl in the next few season.

I think maintaining our position in the league is more important than trophies right now. By the time Emery leaves, we will have multiple trophies but, for now, it’s about stability at the top.

Felix probably the missing link to unlock low block team. We struggled against team that park the bus. Buendia can do that but he was injured last season.

It's a large geographical area with a big population and football is the no. 1 sport, but for the 30+ years I've been following football there seems to have been very few Brummie/Black Country players. I do think Hermoso comes in if when we sell digne or moreno - with Pau being more naturally comfortable on the right and having played there a lot for Villarreal it’s a good move for all. Konsa I’d expect to play rb or third CB with 3 at the back. Good times

For me, the Felix situation is best solved (from our end) with a "loan with obligation to buy (if certain conditions are met)". These certain conditions are basically ensuring that we are in a financially safe position to invest in him having had a season of assumed good performances. Let's say the conditions are, appearance, goal contributions and CL depth and requalification. Assuming that all these are met, we'd probably be in a position to sign him permanently as we could put his purchase onto the next year of financials. I think he'd be absolutely amazing for us, go back and watch him for Chelsea in the prem, he was probably their best player during a time where they were pretty poor. Emery wants him and if he can get back to his level when he joined Atletico, it'd be more than worth it.

I think we have a Pau Torres issue. He was so crucial to they way we played last season and the dip in form seemed to start when he got injured but some of his defending cost us dearly as well. No club has finished in a champions league spot and conceeded as many goals. Does he persist with him as a centre back? And we need a decent sub keeper.

Think John might be wrong about Archer and the 4 club trained players for UCL "How many homegrown players are needed in a Champions League squad? Out of the 25, eight places are reserved exclusively for "locally trained players" or homegrown players. Out of the eight, not more than four can be "association-trained players" and the rest must be "club-trained" I read this as we NEED 4 club trained? So JJ, Bidace, Archer and Kiesler-Hayden?

Can’t help but think that in the cup win v UCL qualification is an easy one to decide. You lose good players if they want to at least have “something” to show at the end of their career. So at least winning a cup comp resolves that? Look at Kane leaving to at least fill up one spot on his pre made trophy wall (bad example 😊)

Without hesitation, I’d take Beier over Felix. Beier can cover Watkins and play in behind or on the wing. Felix can’t cover for Watkins. Felix has been crap at Chelsea and not played well for a while now - it just isn’t worth the risk for the wages / transfer fee. It could cripple us financially and isn’t worth the gamble in my opinion.
