Archaeologists led by a team from the University of Bradford have made a major discovery close to Stonehenge.
The international consortium, part of the Stonehenge Hidden Landscape Project, found evidence of a 2km wide ring of prehistoric pits.
The pits are 10m across and 5m deep and have been carbon dated to 2500BC.
Prof Vince Gaffney, 50th Anniversary Chair of the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences in the Faculty of Life Sciences, said it was extraordinary such a major find had been made so close to Stonehenge.
