In her documentary Miss Americana, Taylor explained why she didn't start talking politic earlier. She had always wanted to speak up but due to her origin from conservative Tennessee + country background, she was restricted by her team from going into politic. In that documentary there's a scene where Taylor was tearing up while arguing with her father + team about stepping into politic. You just can't NOT stan her.

She started stating a little of her political opinions in 2015 during 1989 and even had a line in Welcome to New York for wlw and mlm. She got more vocal during this time with this video because she wanted to be sure people understood where she stood. I don't think she has been perfect in this in any way, but her fans have known her opinions for many years and I'm happy she made it known for the general public too

I didn’t mean to write a paragraph but I did anyway so enjoy: Younger me was so drawn to this and I didn’t know why… now I know. I don’t think I’ve felt attraction towards a guy… ever really! Ok maybe once lol 🤐 I was so drawn to the rainbows and the same sex relationships; I always have been because I could relate on a certain level. I used to think it was wrong to not have feelings towards men. Around year 1, I had this friend (we were inseparable) and I was so young and so confused but at times I just wanted to kiss her. I really did. This feels so strange to type out for some reason 😂 Anyway, I continued to feel attracted to females more and more and I was still so uncertain up until there was a new student. He was proud and had flags and stickers. I wanted to be friends soooo bad! I saw him happy with his pan flags and other pride flags, so I looked up the colours of the pan flag. I discovered this world of amazing new possibilities. I read about lesbians and thought “woah. Is that me?” I’d always felt like a bit of an outcast as I was confused and bullied for acting “different”. Around year 5 I started exploring it a bit more. I read into the lgbtq+ community and started reading queer books or books with queer characters in it. One night I found this lgbtq+ KZbinr and had already been subscribed. I realised I was so drawn to them when I was younger BECAUSE of my confusion. I decided after 3 months of serious debating with myself that I am maybe a little too gay but honestly, that’s not really a thing 😂 I became friends with the new student and came out to my friends and psychologist. I cut my hair and started dressing how I liked. It did end up in a lot of “are you gay” questions and homophobia. I spoke to my parents around year 6 (I am now in high school) and it kind of felt like they were forcing me out of it. I didn’t feel like I was getting the support I needed other than from my friends and psychologist. I still don’t feel like it. I joined in on a pride parade at my school and that increased the amount of questions. I honestly don’t really mind. People are curious. But a lot of them make homophobic comments which is the part that upsets me. The most recent comment I’ve gotten was; “I hope there’s no gays here. I hate the gays” and yes, it was to my face directed at me smh. I’m doing better but still learning to even accept MYSELF. I am working through the homophobia and other comments but doing ok so far lol And I am only today years old when I found out that this was a very gay music video (I haven’t even thought of this song in i don’t know how long lol) and I am actually very happy about the representation. These reactions are INCREDIBLE! Keep up the hard work!
