Taylor spent a lot of her career keeping her beliefs private because she wanted it to be about the music. She changed her mind when she realized her image was being co-opted by the alt right. She has always been a supporter of the lgbt+, so she felt it was her duty to speak out

You have to watch it multiple times to catch all the cameos. As someone commented on the original video there was a major hidden message about Katy & Taylor, as follows: Burger = B French Fries = FF BFF = Katy & Taylor Then Katy posted that it was a beef-free video. Taylor has been bubble-gum pop and country-lite, but as you said she is now using her platform to call attention to issues and LGBTQ is definitely one of the things under attack from the right, so good on Taylor for pushing the envelope and bringing the topic to the forefront.

One thing to keep in mind, for anyone that is wondering, why has Taylor Swift suddenly gotten political or why has she suddenly speaking out for LGBTQ people? I think a huge part of it is is that just last year, with her last album and tour, she finished her obligations to the record contract she signed back when she was like 15-years-old. Now, she has a new deal, new recording label, and she can do whatever the fuck she wants! So, I think we're gonna get new out-spoken Taylor and fuck it, she's out of Pandora's Box now, there is no putting her back in! And as a liberal, I'm all for it. Use your platform Taylor! I hope she comes out hard in support of a 2020 Democratic candidate!

I might have commented to one other video ever if I can remember. My reaction to the video was exactly like yours. I have watched probably 10 others and the people are going crazy and over react to it in my opinion. I didn't know who the person was in the Hamburger costume until after I read the comments in the actual video that was uploaded. I don't keep track of all these celebs. The only thing I knew was about katy leaving some show when taylor had a video released at some awards show. I don't even go back to look at any comments and probably won't be back to this channel again though. But good for you for a good realistic reaction. I was almost too lazy to sign that petition but did it anyway. I don't even know what those letters in that group even stand for. It is interesting to see someone "have the balls" to stand up for other people though.
