I think continental Europe felt a lot closer when we were all sharing the same beam footprint. There are no French channels because they were d2mac, which is what BSB originally used. Note that the Scandi channels are already digital in 1996.

BSB originally used D-MAC, can be very confusing
@eaglevision993 Жыл бұрын
The scandinavian channels were not digital, only the sound. D2Mac uses a digital sound carrier, the picture is still analog.
@kreuner1110 ай бұрын
Really? How come, I read DVB-S was developed between 1993-1997, and not deployed until the very late 90s They likely mean digital sound via D2-Mac?
@Liam30726 ай бұрын
Very few French channels used d2mac. However, in early 1996, pretty much every French satellite channel was either on Telecom 2A/2B, TDF1/2 or Hot Bird. This would change in late April 1996 with the launch of Canalsatellite Numérique, a fully digital TV package, on Astra 19.2°East.

RTL2 had and has several owners. It was not allowed to have the same owners by the time of its launch. This Disput with the media department of the State Hesse was the reason why the channels launch was delayed for over half a year.

RTL II began operations in March 1993 with a look created by Novocom that was designed in late 1992 for its sister channel RTL. However, just six months after RTL II launched, the channel's initial logo unexpectedly made its way to the United States when television station KGAN (channel 2, Cedar Rapids, IA) began using a similar logo along with a modified version of the channel's graphics package. This set off a dispute between Guy Gannett (the station's owners at the time), RTL and Novocom that would go on until late 1995, when Novocom agreed to create a new graphics package for RTL II which required a new logo to be used. KGAN was allowed to keep its logo, but would be required to cease use of the 1993 graphics package. Sinclair would buy Guy Gannett in 1998.

hello everyone, I'm wondering if they were unlocked TV channels, or scrambled, and whether a video guard was used to scramble/lock the TV signal??? thank you 🍻🍻🍻
@windowsxpfan_derfaulesack2 жыл бұрын
The Channels with the lock were encrypted. You've needed to make an subscription. If I'm right, every Sky channel(and channels you could receive with an Sky Subscription) was ecrypted with Videocrypt(analogue). The German Pay-TV Channel "Premiere" was encrpyted with Nagravision Syster(analogue). Sky switched to fully digital tv in 2001, Premiere switched to fully digital tv in 2003, as it was much securer, because you could crack the analogue Pay-TV channels.

@rEq1000 You could be right, but I suspect it's more than likely this is from a stock music library, I can't see them investing the time and money in producing a generic synth-instrumental track explicitly for a channel guide. Wise Fer, check on soundcloud, you're unlikely to find this specific piece but there's a lot of stuff like this, there's a number of compilations called "corporate report" that contain a lot of similar pieces to this.

Merdaset channels were on Intelsat 63 deg East, and then later moved to Hotbird 13 deg East, and for the multistream channels on Eutelsat 5 deg West. Then they left that one and are on Eutelsat 9 deg East, which only has a beam that includes the area around Italy. I suppose they didn't want people from a big part of Europe freeloading the multistream signals from 5 deg West.
