FTGG is NOT a +1 to hit. It improves BS by 1. So yes you CAN get to hitting on 3s with Rail Rifles. Standing still is +1 TO HIT and being Guided they are +1 Ballistic Skill.

You did fine for what you had access to. There's a lot of small rules that come into play when doing Tau it looks like. Not sure how tall certain terrain features were but you might have been shorted on some AP and/or those Ogre things might not have actually made their charge, etc. Obviously Kauyon turns on for most of your army on turn 3 so you missed some free hits from sustaining fire. Your suits can use the tank shock stratagem which opens up options when charging into things.

Always a pleasure watching your battle reports, particularly the ones with Tau. Rules mistakes I noticed: - Ghostkeels have the Lone Operative keyword so they can't be targeted outside of 12" (a tank shot a Ghostkeel from across the table at the start of the turn 1 shooting phase) - Longstrike no longer gives +1 to hit to a nearby Hammerhead, he only gives Lethal Hits now, didn't make any difference as all Hammerheads & Longstrike have a rule to give them to give +1 to hit vehicles and monsters (you mentioned +1 to hit as Longstrike's buff to the nearby Hammerhead at the start of the shooting phase but got the rules right when you got to shooting the Hammerheads). - The rules for Heavy and For the Greater Good (FTGG) can stack. FTGG increases the guided unit's Ballistic skill while the Heavy weapon gives plus one to hit. This combo can allow Rail Rifles to hit on 3+ and Hammerhead's Railguns to hit on 2+

Markerlight doesn't do that. Markerlight gives their Observer unit ignores cover. It's just For the Greater Good that gives Observer units +1 BS.

The orders for astra militarum units are issued before battleshock tests, so your order can be wasted if the unit receiving the order becomes battleshocked

Noticed at the start that the ghost keel at the start was given cover vs the hellhound. The inferno cannon definitely ignores cover. Still made the save anyways, but it is worth noting (and then it would respond that cover for everything else which would have made the dorn's job easier. Though apparently the ghost has lone op, so...

Tau player forgot his army detachment rule. He should have had exploding 6s from 3rd battleround. Also patfinders can observe for 2 units, but still it was a good battle report.

Guard should have grabbed bassilisk and scout sentinels. Bassilisk can slow movement of infantry units by -2 inch and scout sentinels can mark targets that get +1 to hit and artillery can ignore the indirect fire rule meaning Manticores can hit on 3+.

How can standing on objectives be abused?

I think it's to do with Knights, and very large bases + engagement range. Because if you place a Knight dead centre on an objective, with a base of 4" x ~6.33", and an all round engagement range of 1", it means units cannot legally approach to within the 3" distance required for Objectives (unless Charging, of course). Superheavies and other XL vehicles show similar problems. So basically the Knights player can score any objectives they're standing on, AND prevent the other player from scoring those at all. Personally I play it so that units/bases can overlap the objective, but not completely cover it in any way. That way objectives don't become a horrible movement block (more of an annoyance to anything smaller than a Knight instead), and also prevents weird WAAC plays like the Knight issues described above.

Pick Target Pick Observer unit, mark them as Observers Shooting unit gets +1 TO BS against the Target, -1 against any other targets Observers cant be Guided later in a turn

Cause pretty much EVERY game the people have been missing rules really. I find it funny people who play games for a living miss rules when I have a normal 9-5 and havnt played a game in oh about a year yet I know these rules. Kinda odd. And as other player said Tau are WAY different now and lot are just playing them the same and its resulting in loses. Like NEVER guide a Pathfinder Team. Why? Cause their Special Ability is they can guide TWO units at TWO seperate targets. Pathfinders are your go to Guiding units for the army.

So if I can do it while balancing a job and other shit then someone whose job it is to read and know these rules should be able to know it. Tau are absolutely terrible this edition. It's like there's been zero thought put into them. They went from being the bane of Armor, to a joke. They have no special rules. Even NECRON have units that allow them to shoot and then move, but NOT TAU for some stupid reason. Their strats are horrible as well. Fade and Fire should be 1 CP considering the majority of armies have Characters that can up your Strat CP by +1 after using it, essentially making the strat useless. They get no free overwatch even though other armies do. Their Tanks are GARBAGE. There AP was nerfed, their shot output was nerfed. There characters make ZERO sense. Like, their Ethereals have Differing LD values???? Like what the actual shit? And their army wide rule basically allows half the army to have a moderate BS. Where every other army gets bonuses to hit, wound and rerolls in spades. We can only hope that the New book is remotely decent. But since they've all been written already I doubt it.
