"Good guy" would be a stretch to describe her. Sure, Jena had something going, but she still was a terrorist amwho worked with Joseph previously and wasn't that different from him. You can say that at least Jena wasn't as extreme as Joseph. :/

I love Jena and her theme songs, but damn isn't anybody gonna talk about the smooth combat, jesus, the way you fight is so smooth and synergize, truly a legionis.

Same, I personally place it up there with the boss fights against Zanza and Egil from Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and the battles with Jin and Amalthus from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The final boss against Noah Prime and the Homonculus battles from this game are also up there. Particularly the one you fight in File 7.

For me it's still Raiden vs Metal Gear Ray in Mental Gear Rising. Even though it was the first boss fight of the game, the whole action sequence, QTA, cutscenes, and music where just amazing.

I love how her theme evolves between each battle. My personal favorite is Rebellion and Salvation and I love how this one and Catastrophe switch from epic final boss like themes to sad music. It really feels like she's missunderstood and wants to stop Yoseph at all cost, even though she just doesn't know how to make us understand she's right all along

Spot on. Jena's gone crazy so she's doesn't communicate her end goals clearly. She was stuck in the Lovecraftian hellscape known as the Astral Plain for 20 years, of course she's unstable. I don't think Platinum get enough credit for the emotion and character they manage to work into their songs, especially with Astral Chain. You can tell each track was written with a specific character/boss/fight in mind. Sorry if this comment is a bit too analytical, but thanks again.

If only the story was more fleshed out... There are so many intersting concepts, motivations and worldbuilding in this game but we talk about it in one sentence and then never again. The game leaves us with so many open questions and underdeveloped characters, it's really frustrating. There was so much potential there. The game overall is a very strong 8.5/10 in my opinion but I can't rate the story higher than 4/10.

@@BaguetteOfDoom You pretty much hit the nail on the head. "Man, it sure is crazy how the Astral Plane's absorbing everything. Anyway, back to sick gameplay and heavy metal." There's some in-world explanations hidden around, but it's not really like Dark Souls where there's just enough to help you come to a solid conclusion. Just a guess and not much else. Really hope they build on what's been set up if we do get a sequel.

Man, this fight was so good. I love how the music transitions are so smooth in Astral Chain... between the investigation and combat phases of the area themes, the entirety of File 07 building up, and of course the boss themes for multi phase bosses. Really hope we see a sequel someday.

Oh, and fantastic job putting this together by the way. I made my own cut of the 3 Jena tracks a couple days ago because I never liked the transition other videos had between phase 2 and 3, but this goes above and beyond my attempt.

A quite tragic character if I say so myself, she's just unable to properly explained to us what Yoseph's project is all about since we're already working for him. So she went the 'terrorist' way to show that she's the only one capable to stop him and perhaps the Astral Plane itself. And at the end, when we first invoked the Legion Fusion, that is exactly what she meant by our compatibility with the legions isn't exactly a blessing But damn, those are real crazy moves. You brought all the legion skills especially the Hit Rush to their fullest. I've completed all the orders myself, but I'll never have a reaction that fast during fights

Thanks. I ended up re-fighting Jena about eight times so I had a lot of practice. And I agree with you on Jena. I know there's some issues with the writing, but it feels like you're still given enough context and information to piece it together. Also, I love me some Hit Rush spam.

Jena honestly was not a bad woman she just went about things wrong she shows concern for us and Akira by giving herself up to save Akira from you. To make matters worse I noticed something about Yoseph was wrong at the beginning and she was right about him. It is sad she lost herself the more she went on trying to kill Yoseph. I love her fights, but I'm a bit annoyed during her first phase, don't know if you've noticed it but when she catches you with her dash attack and you get this small bit of her beating your shit in before her last strike you hear a sound cue that you get when you complete a combo and do a combined legion attack, but pressing any button does nothing, all you get is smacked away by Jena.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that one attack. I'm happy someone else mentioned it, coz I've been confused about it for the last few years. It felt like I was doing something wrong. Since I've been playing with no HUD for so long, I thought I'd maybe forgotten if there was a prompt or something. I'm not fused about the attack itself, but it definitely gives you the impression that it's a QTE like Revengeance. Maybe something was cut and this is what's left over?

Goddamn, this is beautiful. Jena's theme is one of my favorites in this game and the editing here is on point. The only thing I'd wish is if you showed off more of her own attacks during intense points in the song, like if at 5:40 she used that one attack where lasers come out of her wings. Or maybe even changing the timing for the music at 7:20 to line up when the player holds their head, like they do at 7:08. That's just my personal opinion, though. Still an amazing job with the music and everything!

Thanks, mate. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. You make a good point about 5:40, and I can't believe I didn't think of it. I recorded around 7 fights with each phase, and for some reason, phase 2 Jena was camera shy with the laser spam. The only other clips I had of it were getting combo'd and dying (with the camera freaking out against a wall) from it and turtling with the Axe Legion, or being so far away from her I was completely safe and just watched. It kinda sucks because, like you pointed out, that type of attack should be the high point of phase 2. I'll definitely keep it in mind in case I ever revisit the track/fight for another video. And I'm happy you brought up the timing of the bit after phase 2, because it bugged me too. I wasn't happy with the leaving that whole part in un-edited, but after playing around with it and cutting parts of Jena's dialogue just felt awkward. Definitely a shame coz I was hoping to include more combat before the phase 3 cutscene. And I know it's over 3 years old, but your Pontiff video gave me a good chuckle. Thanks again.

What I really love about platinum games is that the ingame combat can be looking as cool as in the cutscenes. I often have the feelin in games when something was shown in a cutscene I was like "why can't I do this?" And here you just can. Best shown in the final moments of the final boss. Gameplay perfectly interwoven into cinematics.

The former, maxed gear and Legions on Platinum Ultimate. The original Ark Mall video was recorded during my original playthrough, but everything else was recorded after. I think the ARI vid is where I started recording on Plat Ult.

Thanks for the question. I realised that after the final sync attack on Jena, there was going to be another 4-5 minutes of cutscene footage. I tried playing around with it, but the video was too long with it included. I would've liked to have edited it down (like the other cutscenes I included), but didn't have enough time. Editing the footage into the final phase felt like a good compromise. I didn't want the video to feel like it dragged on, and finishing with Catastrophe felt like it ended on a high-note. If I ever redo this edit, I'll definitely try to fit it in somewhere.
