Thanks for these videos. I have a stuck spark plug on my 2001 GC that has snapped off leaving the porcelain stuck in the lower part so I cannot use an extractor, I'll have to take the heads off...so may as well replace all the seals and gaskets. My question is about the torque settings., like the 45, 65, 65. I understand you torque the bolts up to 45, but then go around again and go to 65? And then go around again at 65? Is that what you mean by 45, 65, 65?

Excellent video, good work, apparently all the work was to replace the head gaskets. my question is if it is possible to change Engine Valve Stem Seal, without removing the heads, my car is a Chrysler Grand Caravan 2002 and the engine has 160000 miles and consumes one liter every 700 miles. The engine has good power, they do not have losses just that it consumes a lot of oil, thanks for your response.

Thanks, and yes it is possible, just be sure to have air supplied to each cylinder through the spark plug port, with that cylinder valves closed. This will ensure the valves don't drop into the cylinder.

Quick question. On those motors, the 3.3l Dodge Grand Caravan Sport, would defetive valley pan gasket give symptoms of a slight blown head gasket? The symptoms I'm having is that 1) the cooling system is over pressuring. It's blowing the upper radiator off every now and again. 2) It's blowing coolant out the coolant reserve. After so much is blown out there seems to be no other issues. 3) I do get a little water mix on the oil dip stick after I fill the coolant system but after it blows the coolant out the reserve I don't seem to get a mix anymore after it burns all the water out the exhaust. Just was curious after watching your video on the Caravan head gasket repair. By the way, nice video. I've seen videos where they leave out very crucial info. Keep up the good work.

Hey Jay, first off, thanks for appreciating the video! Now, if the cooling system is pressurizing that much, the first thing is to check the radiator cap. Next, if the valley pan is bad, it can cause antifreeze to go into the cylinders, or mix with the oil. You stated that the car burns out the water through the exhaust, does the car smoke WHITE smoke a lot?

Is it necessary to remove the exhaust manifolds completely or can you slip the heads out?

+Marc Smith You can leave the exhaust manifolds on, but it will be easier to remove the heads with the manifolds attached because then you would only have to remove the bolts at the Y-Pipe. There was no problem with rust on these bolts.

I have a quick question for you. i put a little oil on the threads and when i was torquing down the head bolts, a little oil came out of the gap between the head & block at the #1 bolt. That is the cylinder #3 where the misfire occurred after it overheated. The heads were machined and leak tested. My question to you is do I need to pull the head because that part of the head gasket might be contaminated. I just started so it wouldn't be that big of a deal besides a lost head gasket now and not later. Thanks.

Hey Marc, Be sure you cleaned out all the bolt holes in the block before inserting the new bolts. I wouldn't be too worried about the oil, now if it was antifreeze, then that would be a whole new story. Also, be sure you are using new head bolts. Don't pay attention to anyone who says otherwise, especially if the van overheated.

took car of it, thanks. i was reading alldata and it says after 1/4 turn, the torque should be over 90 ft-lbs. I checked one out of curiosity and with was less than 90 ft-lbs.

Found 3 that were bad. The rest hold over 90 ft lbs. I could see the gasket spitting out in that corner. I believe they are yielding to much

now with these motors do you set #1 tdc before putting the rockers and pushrods back and is there any adjusting such as valve lash I'm used to sbc as far as timing and adjustment of valves. Are these motors like self adjusting or something

No, you do not have to set TDC because you do not have to remove the timing chain. Also, these valves (lifters) are self adjusting so you don't have to worry about that either. Hope this helps.

Yes you can, look for what is called a "Head Set". you will also need head bolts to be sure the job is correctly done.

The labor would be 7 hours, and that is with using air tools.

Ii see why you reused the bolts and nuts. I called the dealer because I figured I would replace them. Wrong! I was told $70 for the 4 bolts for the crossover pipe and the rear 4 bolts for the cat. I will clean them up and reuse them.
