Here’s some early development I directed for Astro boy in 2007. What’s better than two friends fighting and one is the size of a hulk and the other doesn’t want to hurt him…:)

This is the early version of the 2009 adaptation before it was revised and David Bowers (co-director of Flushed Away and later director of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie sequels) would be chosen as the director

I loved the Astro Boy movie! I wish there were more movies :( but I am glad we at least got one! Great work! Very interesting to see it's development.

This is so cool! I like the potential plot at 1:10 where he seems to have a hard time controlling the arm cannon, it always seemed weird to me that he just instantly understood and could control all of his powers the first day he woke up. It'd definitely add more tension to the movie rather than 'just hiding that he's a robot'

so basically a boy died and the father of the boy (a scientist) recreated a robot replica of him. The end.

We hope there will be new remake Osamu Tezuka's 'Astro Boy / Iron Arm' movies produced by Walt Disney Animation Studio, in the far future since(from) the 2060s. Astro Boy Series truly look like and might fit to Walt Disney Animation.

Good ear, @WiiFan444 ! The original temp score for this scene was lost so the music is whatever I could pull from my library. This particular sting might be familiar to someone who uses iMovie…

The movie was about to be more darker. ZOG was originally controlled by HamEgg just to kill Astro. 😢

1. Because eggs are a unique and universal shape. 2. Zog later becomes a source of giving Toby new life. 3. We were hungry that day.

I have a question, was Astro Boy originally going to be turning evil because He lost control of himself before He forced ZOG to not fight Him.

Not evil, but more like a self defence mode override he’s learning to control.

Yes, it would’ve been more dark than what was released. But not any darker than what I’ve always admired with the studio Ghibli films. There also was a lot more absurd and broad humour as well in this original version. I’ve been inspired by all of your comments here to post some of the original extremely rough storyboards as well as cleaning some up with AI to see what the style might’ve looked like… thanks for your interest and questions!

This is amazing! I kinda prefer this scene a bit more because of the use of his arm cannon. The arm cannons were only used in 2 scenes in the film. Edit: Don't get me wrong, I like the scene we got in the final.
