Hey all, Just wanted to confirm that the same old Mixamp Gen 1 (non TR) shown here, works perfectly in my PC, optically. I have it plugged into the optical out of a soundblaster Z soundcard and a usb port for power! In windows sound options select "SPDIF-out sound blaster z" as default playback device. then in the sound blaster comand software, select Playback tab, "Digital", in same tab set audio quality to a maximum of, 2 channel 24bit, 48 khz any higher wont work, and in same tab select "Play stereo mix to digital output"! Also! in SB command go to the "Encoder" tab and sellect the radio button for "No Encoder" because you already have the dolby button on the astro mix amp. thats it! Happy gaming dudes :)

I have the old Gen 1 non TR version with the optical cable you used, i use it on my pc. What is the name of the optical cable you used in this video mate? i would like to keep using my old mixamp (as it works as it did back when i purchased it) but as you say Astro say do not support now and say i cant get the firmware. great vid man liked and subbed

@@GearsAndTech no worries dude I managed to find a compatible one for my board to the A40 on Amazon with a bit of googling. Should be coming today hope it fits. 😉 Funny thing is using it in one of the most advanced games Star Cit lol Replaced the mic ages ago, but they still sound crisp and the booms are good, directionality is still reasonably good for fps too.

So I believe all mixamps work from the a40 except for 2011 editions which is the one I have that has the red on the back of the mix amp, when I connect it to my PS5 I get % signs instead of it saying mixamp pro in output/input settings on PS5 which sucks, I tried just the headset alone thinking the headset was bad since only audio was coming from left side of the headset and turns out headset is good, I did not use a optical hdmi converter from Astro so not sure if that may help or not but I connected the optical cable to the back of my Samsung tv so not sure if it’s optical connectivity or mixamp

@@Detends-Toi I guess we can't help each other. I have the old mix amp that is the subject of this video. I don't have a PS5 yet either but this is the first I've heard of the mic saturation problem. Trying to see if there's a fix or I need a new headset.

The audio of the mic is a little louder than on ps4. If you have a mixamp that can connect to astro command center you can turn the gain down there and it will be much improved The Gen 1 and 2 do not connect to the command center, so your voice has a bit of a distortion sound to it. But, we got the same distortion sound on the ps4. You have to turn the mic all the way down, and have it a little farther away from your mouth and it works fine. Still with distortion, but no different than we observed on the ps4.

Does the 3d audio sound OK with the old Astros? I feel like when astro says it's not supported, they mean the old headsets are not tuned for 3d sound (like dolby atmos or tempest audio).

All headphones work with 3d sound if you use the headphone jack in the controller. But they should also work over USB of you want to use a mixamp with them

It technically works but the microphone is the issue that I am running into. It is way to loud and impossible to turn down. It is unusable in parties with other people

Have you fixed the issue ? You should Try to update your mix map via the astro program on Their Website, let us know if it’s fixed

@@Detends-Toi The mix amp gen 1 isn’t supported with the astro software so it can’t be updated. I just don’t use the mix amp anymore

You can use the old updater for it, but that only gets it to a certain version

You can use any headset. I have tested a headset from the dollar store and even that sounds really good It's uncomfortable to wear. But it sounds good

I've got the 2014 A40s with mixamp pro, so with the astro adapter am I going to get that Dolby audio? Really don't wanna pay for a new headset when the A40s have been good to me by far best audio quality I've had

Yes it'll work with that adapter. Also check the back of your tv. If it has the audio out you can use my video to hook it up with no adapter

Ok. I have had no problem with the adapter. I find the sound the same as my ps4. No better no worse. I can't speak to the astro branded splitter. But with the generic one from Amazon it sounds great.

Do you have a video on the Gen2 MixAmp, I need to know what the EQ presets are and what the MP3, that the Gen1 also has, is for?

I believe mp3 is a line in to add music into your headphones The presets are just a selection of astro settings. You are supposed to just adjust till you find the one you prefer. Unfortunately no way to adjust the actual settings like you can on the Gen 3+

The cables for Gen 1 and Gen 2 are different. But, the connections are the same

I have the gen 1 astros, on xbox and pc they arnt reconis3d not even by the astro command centre it just straight up won't recognise the device, the command centre claims its a unusable astro device. All that money over 200 bucks and there just useless....
