I used to have a 2wd '93 Sonoma pickup (same thing as an S10) and the 2wd and 4wd S10 trucks are totally different underneath. The 2wd trucks are spring under which means the leaf springs go under the axle. I don't remember how my 2wd was but some vehicles have the shackle under the leaf spring which is how those lowering shackles would lower a vehicle. Maybe you're supposed to use leaf springs from the opposite configuration from what you bought? Like maybe you got the 2wd springs that are supposed to go under the axle which might mean they have more arch? Or vice versa.

I have what I think may be the answer you're looking for, at least it has worked well for me And that is, instead of messing with the leaf springs in rear, I replaced my standard shocks on my 1998 Astro with rear Monroe load lifter shocks. I can tow most anything that is within the vehicle's torque range without it bottoming out. And it leaves the vehicle looking normal.

You can fit 235/75/15s without a lift if you massage the front fenderwell area. Check out the Astro build videos and you’ll see where I had interference. Hmm... I don't agree with a few things you mention at the beginning of this video about the engine being under powered - I've got the '04 AWD converted to 4x4 with the JOR 5+ lift, larger/reindexed torsion keys and 3+1 S10 springs (used out of a '98 s10) AND the JOR rear shackles.... I regularly find myself driving over 90mph with 29.75 tires and I can do that up hill if I manage my throttle correctly when I see the incline coming... I'm running the 3:42 gearing. I've driven the van across the country and back twice with this set-up, now..... With the 29.75" tires, from the ground to the center of the rear fenders it's 37" and at the front it's 36" - I could drop the rear an inch but it settles when loaded up with gear/tools so I like it - I had to do the "ball joint flip" - My van handles like it's on rails, drives awesome and I've got plenty of power.... I was getting pretty great gas mileage too until my injectors got clogged up - I'm working on that now and think I've solved it but we'll see.... I did put a new Jasper transmission in it a few years ago I don't know what happened with your springs but something isn't right....
@ADDvanced2 жыл бұрын
I have the same gearing as you, and I don't know how what you're saying is possible. 75mph is maybe 12mpg with this thing. Can it do 80? Yeah, but it doesn't like it. I've hit 85+ coming down a mountain grade, but you're saying when you crossed the rockies, at altitude, you were going over 70 on those long uphill grades with 30" tires and 5" lift? With stock tall gearing? I think your speedometer is off. That does not add up at all.

We Replaced The Torsion Bar and Inspected The Defective One and there was Zero Rust Anywhere That It Had Broken So If Yours Are Helping To Force The Van Higher? I Got To Say You Might Be Driving a Death Machine? Thing Is Those Should Have No Tension On Them While The Truck Is Parked Sitting Still. I Inquired With GM What Might Have Caused It To Just Snap Like That And All They Could Say Was, It's Spring Steel Like A Garage Door Spring And Those Break All The Time From Stress. Your All Set If It Snaps Towards Rear, It Will Just Drag But Ours Didn't! It Broke Like a Pointed Dagger! I Still To This Day Always Think About That 5 Vans Later And Every Time Someone Says They Cranked Down On The Tension I Just Cringe. You Might Want An Alternative To Ever Messing With Those! My Garage Door Springs Never Break Where They Are Hooked On To The Eye Bolts, They Just Randomly Have Some Area In The Spring That Says: Well I Had Enough Of Your Bullshit And Its Always Towards The Back Of The Garage Not The Door Side Witch I Would Call The Front Of The Spring. Not That It Has Anything To Do With An Astro Van But That Rod Is plenty Long Enough To Drop Down And Stab The Ground Flipping The Van If It Breaks Towards The Front Keys. I Never Herd Of This Happening To Anyone Else But If Any Of These Vans Just Flipped Over They Might Just Think It Was Some Unknown Random Shit In The Road And The Van Is Totaled So Who Would Investigate? Thing is, i been studying how to both lift and drop my S10, and can't decide. If you don't believe, just check out how to lower or raise your S10 and you will find everyone from pimple popping space cadets to older drunk guys doing that. It isn't too late for yours, and it isn't too difficult to do the swap if you didn't want to mess with the garage again, which may just have not understood what you were wanting or something, idk. Honestly, I would much rather have the extra lift. Match up the front without messing the torsion bars. I doubt the make drop brackets for the front diff like they do for the IFS in the S-10/Silverado.
@ADDvanced Жыл бұрын
The front is lifted w 2" pucks, and the torsion bars are 100% maxxed out. The only way to go taller is with bigger front pucks, and then extending the steering shaft.

Idk what you installed, but leafs from a 1994era s10 gave my rig 3-4in of lift. No problems whatsoever. I think you probably installed the wrong ones.

That's what I'm thinking to. There are quite a few S10 leafs springs for the 94' and up S10's. Standard 2wd, standard 4wd, ZR2, and ZQ8 all come to mind. I know front springs were different between the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder trucks, not sure if the rears were specific based off the engine size though. And being that all S10's have the axle above the leaf springs, maybe you actually need 2wd leafs as 4wd leafs combined with the axle below would make it really high.

I'm using the 66-287s that everyone says to use. This link: www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1430&fbclid=IwAR2OVGNSs2QRkhYkNuQobzRaqnhoLpFzbxmiSe2zGyD-XmtlRhAYZASpBI8

@@ADDvanced you want 22-687
@ADDvanced2 жыл бұрын
@@kennethpeabody1333 That's exactly what these are. The part number is still visible on the spring. 22-687 is what I ordered from SD spring.
@kennethpeabody13332 жыл бұрын
@@ADDvanced you said 66-287 above. If the label has the right part no on it someone put the wrong label on the springs you got. I personally know 6 buddies who did the exact spring swap and all got between 3.5 to 4 inches of lift. If I remember right the springs were installed in the opposite direction front to back to keep the rear axel centered in the wheel well.

Put a few bags of sand in the back.

The engine has upgrades threw the years with things like roller rockers.

My dude, your front end looks like its stock height. That's why the rake is so severe. Plus you have always needed longer rear shocks for any of the lift options.
@ADDvanced Жыл бұрын
Sorry it looks that way to you, this is with 2" puck risers between the subframe and the front of the astro, you can see me installing them here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d17WiKKoj7CBm80 In addition to that, I then max out my stop torsion bars for the additional inch. This is what is called the 2+1 lift according to Journey's, which is a 3" lift. The front is lifted 3".

Yeah, but there was a gap before. It wasn’t slammed. 4 inches isn’t from the tire, it’s from the previous height.

you do know that the s10 has many different leaf spring types ; one for 4x4 zr2 one for reg 4x4 and then 2x4 and another set for the extreme ,so yeah you bought the wrong type

No I did not. I bought the part number that was WIDELY suggested as the correct one in all the Astro safari forums. What part number spring do you claim to be the correct part?
