I have much respect for you man my grandfather has 3 boats and i keep up the work on em and I hope I can have this moment like you did with your dad before he is resting in a better place. 18:44 I will say it looks like a muskrat chewed the bellows, which is why you need to leave your outdrive fully lowered if you leave your boat in the water overnight. Just a little tip 👍

lol bullshit BRP gets government money. well they do but that is for their aircraft, the sleds are on their own. Bottom line is BRP has market share because their product is head and shoulders above cat and pooh. Tell cat charging 13k for a 400cc sled is ridiculous and that is why they suck

Twin tank caps so a gentleman can fill up from either side without dragging a nasty ass hose across the rear of the car. Jaguar thought this was important.

If that's a 4.2 litre that's the best but try and get a V12 it's 2 of the 2.8 litre engines combined so sounds glorious , early ones had 6 carbs .... Glad you like the Torque that's the point of these cars it's effortless , imagine that in a racing alloy D or E type ...
@ADDvanced3 күн бұрын
No thanks, that V12 seems like a nightmare. And yeah, this drivetrain is fun and would be fantastic in a lighter car!

The point of the XJ6 is long distance high average speed driving , it doesn't notice highway gradients ,
@kwinterburn4 күн бұрын
SU stands for Skinner's Union by the way , it's quite a simple engine very conventional , but it's not a Chevy 350 from the stone age , don't mess with it , just fix what's died over the years and it will be reliable, mess with it and a world of pain and suffering awaits, it's designed to run fir 250,000 miles between rebuilds so leave it alone , you wouldn't mess with an E type so dont mess with this , if you want complex get a V12 with fuel injection and fix it properly ,

Interesting that it’s an XJ Series 1 but it appears to have a Series 2 bootlid…the plinth is a Series 2 item. Series 1 cars had small ‘winglets’ either side of the turn latch. I would also suggest the triple manifold is from a later 4.2 litre Mark X or 420G saloon, not an E-Type. Love the fact it’s a manual. Had a few of these, one a V12. They’re a sublime machine when they’re properly looked after. Mine were my mistresses, always needing lavishing with cash even though they were a beautiful and intoxicating machine…

Brilliant update on the Jag. Still it goes to show the degree of mechanical sympathy/understanding you have to have with these types of classic English cars these days, especially the SU/Stromberg carb/fuel setup. Most if not all service centres/garages these days cannot/will not service these systems. I concur re the bonnet closing procedure of these cars.

They've been around for a very longtime - since 1904 and patented in 1906. Once set up correctly they last for ages without adjustment and they are not in need of some black art or Satans touch to tune them! Quite simple really!

Welcome to vintage British car ownership, where you spend almost as much time with a tool in your hand as the steering wheel. Have you checked to see if you have an overdrive on your gearbox? They were pretty common in the US. My '72 MGB GT has one. It makes a huge difference on the highway. It would be attached to the tail housing of the box.
@ADDvanced6 күн бұрын
Getting anything reliable after a long period of not being road worthy tends to have a period where things fail in quick succession until it reaches a happy reliable equilibrium
@RandomGuyDan6 күн бұрын
@ADDvanced Generally speaking, that's true, and I had good luck mechanically with my MG, which had been mostly sitting for about a decade when I acquired it in 2011. But Jag's seem to suffer more issues than MG's of the same era. That said, no cars like to sit and the key to a happy vintage car from any maker is regular use. The XJ is one of my favorite 4-door sedans ever and the rare (in the US) 2-door version is even more beautiful. I would love to own either.

Do you realize that we drive on the other side of the road here in the uk - so your uk headlights (unless they are from a left hand drive car) will have the wrong beam pattern and will blind oncoming traffic and probably get you a ticket!

nice Jag. I had the Daimler Double-Six it was chauffer driven for 20 years for the one owner. I rebuilt the motor and added a few tuning parts it was just effortless to 100mph but the MPG was awful. Add to that filling BOTH tanks was boring and the people behind were less than impressed when you fill one tank close the cap up, they think your done.... nope another tank to fill. 🤣🤣

Design intent is important. It's wild how regulations mess things up, and make the original intent fall apart. This is also why lowering almost every car is a huge improvement; the concept sketches of the car by the transportation designers likely did not have that much wheel gap. Lowering it gets it closer to the original vision.

I had a series 1 4.2 back in the '70's ..Even though it was an automatic it still drove brillantly . The XJS used the same SWB chassis /floorpan. Later Jaguars had a longer wheelbase which ruined the handling ! When you shut the boot /trunk just drop it gently until it's nearly shut and then simply use your body weight to shut it . When shutting the bonnet/ hood place one hand in the centre , the other place under the front edge of the grille and then firmly shut the hood . There's less chance of the hood shutting out of alignment . Manual XJ 's normally had overdrive on 3rd and top . As you pointed out yours must be out of an "e" type as they never had overdrive (not enough room ) . Oh ! And by the way old boy . Your first pronounciation is the best . TALLY HO ! 😊

lol I caught flak on pronunciation last time so I figured I'd try to hit all of them this episode :D. Good point about the hood!
