Great video and tribute to an amazing event. This was my first star party and time in dark skies. On Thursday night I was also up around 2:30am when it finally cleared, and after viewing with the dob for just a few minutes, I thought, it’s already been worth the 6 hour drive. Friday was glorious for me as well and I was able to finally visually observe NGC 4038/39, something I have been trying to do for three years. Conditions were exceptional to finally identify it after the moon had set. Hopefully, the summer stays cooler and the air drier. Clear nights, to all that attended!!

Here in Southern New Mexico we have Bortle 2 skies 30 minutes away in almost every direction except East on I-10. Have Bortle One a little farther away and for the hot summer up over 6,000-9,000 feet high. 300+ sunny days a years which is helpful, but June through August is our rainy season. Get a really heavy rain the hibernating frogs come out and breed until their puddle dries up and then back into the ground they go.

Tremendous Blue Horse Head, Trevor! You know, this is where it all pretty much started for me. I gave my first presentation ever at a Cherry Springs Star Party, ‘opening’ for Terry Dickinson. It’s where Pete Proulx and I met for the first time, and where IP4AP was born. I moved out to Sweden Township from NJ in 2004, where I met Christine while I was working at a funny little market in downtown Coudersport, and where I set up my first real observatory. I’m glad you had a great time. It was wonderful seeing you in San Jose, and I’ll talk to you real soon.

Very awesome. I've been to a couple dozen public star parties. Since the pandemic, I've only been to 1, the Maine State Star Party in Cobscook Bay State Park in downeast Maine. It also has Bortle 2 skies and a large open field that hopefully we will be able to use. We'll be at it again this year Aug 26th and 27th, hope to see some of the viewers there. Acadia Night Sky Festival was a great event to go to. Unfortunately prior to the pandemic, the Park Service ended the large star party event on top of Cadillac Mtn due to high attendance; only smaller events are scheduled this year. It is a shame too. That was my favorite event to go to each year. Only other large star party that I've been to is Stellafane in Vermont. I've been a couple of times. Maybe some year I'll get to Cherry Springs. Looks like a nice event. I had no idea it was at 2200ft elevation.

Dude so cool . Star Party. I’m going to my first one. The Golden State Star Party end of June beginning July. 4 nights , sold out at 250 people. Three categories, Astronomy , Astrophotography and wandering around in the dark . It’s been tough on what to image. And what scope to bring. Rho ophiuchi for the redcat or will the 102 with reducer be ok for that. But the C8 has a shoe for the canon t6i that has both 50 mm and 24mm lens , could get the lagoon , trifid and Milky Way plus whirlpool and pinwheel. It’s a dark sky at 4000 foot elevation and a 2 hour drive. OMG . Some say hope is not a good plan but I hope the weather is good and plan on bringing all three scopes.

I love star parties. Not so many here in East Texas, but I went to alot when living on the upper East Coast. This is a hobby that can be somewhat isolating (my wife and kids couldnt care less about getting up at 2a.m. to look at DSOs), so its me, and the dog if he's inclined. Star parties are great for swapping ideas, and even finding good deals on used equipment. Its also good to associate with other weirdos who share your passion. 😆
