My nerdy dream is to own a small telescope that is as sharp as a multi-million dollar observatory. And thanks to my supporters who donated £1400 I have enough cash to test out a neat trick which I hope will make my dream come true... Heads up there are a few bumps along the way😱

Yeah, the wires were never going to work anyway. They were way too thin and flexible. Every vibration would cause them to shake. I was actually wondering if he broke them on purpose to get that problem out of the way.😢 edit: I was about to say the guitar strings might not be much better. Then I got to the part where they broke

Consistently drops the bar . Forgets to tighten the bar . Drops the bar some more because the Brit is not known for its grip strength , but it more than makes up for that with it's humiliation fetish . You could build five hundred of those telescopes and leave them to expose for twenty four months straight and you still wouldn't have captured enough stars to match the stellar burning hatred that I have for you , British Internet man . Now if you'll excuse me I am going to go buy cartons upon cartons of tea so that I can flush it down my dirtiest toilet while cackling -- unhinged and lost delirious in my ragegasms .

(Please take what I've written below as helpful commentary, I loved the video and am cheering all the way). I'm watching this hoping wildly that the three armed spider with fine wire doesn't result in 12 very long diffraction spikes. The reason for four arms is that each arm creates a diffraction spike across the star - and with four arms, properly aligned (they weren't in your first, blurry image) the diffraction spikes overlap, so you wind up with four spikes instead of 8. With arms 120° out, you'll get 6 spikes. Additionally, thicker arms generally yield less diffraction, so the spikes are sharp, bright, and short. Thinner arms yield longer, more diffuse spikes (just like small holes make more diffusion, small obstructions do the same). So just going by how things ought to work out, I'm expecting 6 crazy long diffraction spikes (minimum - if the upper and lower wires aren't perfectly aligned, each will create its own pair of spikes - but Kerry seems like a bit of a wizard, so I'm guessing it's going to be 6) from the thin, thin wire that was initially tried and 6 moderate ones from the much thicker guitar strings. EDIT: Well poo. 6 prominent diffraction spikes with at least two pairs of wires slightly misaligned (so 10-12 long spikes). They're all close, but at that thickness getting them to overlap perfectly is going to be very, very difficult. You've also got some other obstruction in there that is 60° off of the spider wires. Not sure what that is, but it's generating another set of minor spikes, and then the fuzziness around the star is some additional obstruction - likely (at least in part) the tube of your coma corrector getting into the light path because it's so long and the focuser had to be racked all the way in. Kerry's mirror cell holder, with the disk around the edge, that's brilliant. Amazing idea. Normally you'd need to mask the clips to avoid yet another set of mangy diffraction fuzz.

What a wonderful discovery to have found your channel. I absolutely love these telescope challenges. I own a celestron 8. But it is stowed away in my attic. Your enthousiasm makes me to dig it up tomorrow. I will have to learn all over again how to set it up. I remember why my initial enthousiasm died before getting my first real views. I live in the most light polluted areas in Holland. But i guess if I start tomorrow maybe this winter there'll be some viewing opportunities. Thank for lighting this flame again. I have subscribed to your channel and hope for more content . Cheers Martin.
