@@swoyerrd Hi Robert. I just received my CGEM II and am having issues with the ASIAIR Pro communicating with the mount . What can you tell me about the prolific chipset? Is this something in the newer mounts perhaps making it incompatible with the ASIAIR? I have the hand controller with the USB mini B connector. I have tried both Serial and the Ethernet (TCP and UDP) options but get Ethernet error: "Connect Failed. The device on the USB serial port is not recognized, unable to connect" and Serial error: "Connect Failed. Please check the connection method , IP, port and protocol of your mount are correct"

Thank you for your video. I learnt from it, I have to say I think the easiest procedure for AVX and asi air plus has changed. This is what does the trick for me. You connect the handcontroller and the asi air with the cable, everything switched off. You power the mount, in the hc you confirm index, time and date. Right before alignment you stop. You turm on asi air, wait for the beep, go to your tablet/phone, make sure it is connected. You go to the app, open the mount page, turn the switch on. Now asi air will/might ask for confirmation that you have alligned the mount. You press ok. Then on your hc you do quick align, all set. This is actually very close to what asi air suggests you do in 'how to. Connect'. Just waiting to turn on asi air, till after the first steps with the hc, is what helped in my case. Unplugging all cables and then restarting everythinh in case something goes wrong, is really the best. Thanks again and good luck everyone!!

Nice useful video Cody. I took your advice on auto guiding settings in the ASI Air Pro from one of your previous videos and it works great. For some of your subscribers that don't use a Celestron mount, here is my experience with the ASI Air Pro and an Orion Atlas Pro. I use a USB cable from the mount to the ASI Air Pro. I rarely use the hand controller that came with the mount anymore. The ASI Air Pro will not connect to the mount, even when I try and change the Baud rate. The work around is to change the telescope/mount in the drop down menu to "EQMod". It auto connects every time and works (almost) flawlessly. On rare occasions the ASI Air Pro will slew the telescope to a target and indicate that it is centred. However, sometimes the target is off in the corner. The polar alignment is spot on though. No matter how many times I return the mount to Home position and then slew to the target, the same thing happens. The fix is easy - turn everything off (including my laptop) and reboot. No need to polar align again, as the mount has not moved. This seems to work. No rhyme or reason. Sometimes I feel that if I jumped up and down and tapped my hand on my head and rubbed my stomach at the same time, that would probably fix the problem as well. Yep, no rhyme or reason! Thanks again for your great videos!

I have a 8” SCT with AVX mount and recently purchased an ASIAirPlus 256g. I used your tutorial to get started but I can’t get ASIAir to find selected objects reliably. I think the reason yours worked well is because you have an F 2.0 RASA with a short focal length. My 8” SCT has a 2032mm focal length. With a small sensor of an Astro camera it’s harder for the ASIAir to plate solve. I’ve used it three nights so far. ASIAir finds my first target, last night Dumbell Nebula, M27. But it couldn’t find the next three targets, M33 Triangulum Galaxy, M31 Andromeda, and Jupiter. I beginning to thing ASIAir is only suitable for short focal length < 1000mm telescopes.

I followed your process steps and ran into the known problem of the mount disconnecting. I resolved it by making sure that you use a separate power supply cord to the CGX so it is independent of the ASIAIR PLUS. Secondly it is important to boot up the ASIAIR and Mount then confirm you are connected to the ASIAIR wifi before starting the ASIAIR app on the tablet. These minor, but important steps resolved the random disconnect issue with the latest hand controller chipset.

Great video. I have an old CGEM and the differences when connecting asiair is I turn on asiair pro first. I have it connected by ethernet to my slate because the wifi on asiair pro sucks. I select the slate wifi on my ipad that connects the asiair to my ipad. I then turn on asiair and check that I am connected to all the equipment (all cameras, EFW,and EAF) except the mount. I then turn on the mount which will prompt me on my cegm to make sure that the marks are aligned and cegm mount is aligned. I punched in time and date and select quick align on my mount hand controller. I don't bother of slewing to the star. I then click connect the mount. It is very important that you check the Latitude and Longitude on your telescope tab of asiair especially the longitude if you living in north america because the asiair software apparently does not like negative numbers so for west of Greenwich which is a negative number it will go all the way to the East and asiair automatically calculates and put the East number which is a positive number. Most of the softwares on internet will give you a negative number if you are living west of Greenwich. Just subtract that negative number from 360 (degrees which is for the entire earth) and it will give you the east positive number. For example, if your longitude is -120 North then it is 360-120=240 east in asiair. It may not match with your phone numbers because the phone numbers are latitude -120 north. It is important that asiair selects the right longitude and latitude otherwise when slewing the telescope might slew to different parts of the sky presuming that the longitude is +120. Hope it is clear. You can slew to any part of sky other than north pole and take a 30 secs photo and plat solve it and sync the mount so that asiair knows where the mount is. You can slew to the target. Rest of the things are the same as video.

Hi, Cody; this is a question I sw retalet to this video in a FB group: "There a mistake on the video in my opinion. When you start the tracking, like for any other mounts, you need to calibrate. And by calibrate, I mean a real one (not just with the refresh). I did not do it at first and I had a lot of problems with my guiding. Now that I do it, no more problems! To do it, you need to press the « i » on top and reset. Then, you use the refresh button and then the guide. The calibration will start. It normally takes me about 2 or 3 minutes to perform it, and thrust me it totally worth it".

@pete40822 жыл бұрын
IMHO, if you're not entirely sure what it does, you might consider spending time doing it the old fashioned way first, or watching a product review video instead of a setup video. The ASIair is really just to help streamline imaging workflows -- It's essentially just a little remote computer, but you can do most of that from your laptop directly. Once you've learned the steps, and what a pain it is, you'll come to understand what the asiair offers, and if you really even need it at all. I'm just starting out too, and the asiair primarily interests me because of the integrated wifi, 12v ports, and less cabling. Beyond that, its tough to justify the cost as a beginner when my laptop works just fine, and I can put $300 towards a better camera instead.

Great instructions. Do you know if you can connect the ASI air to the AVX mount using the celestron wifi dongle instead of wired?

This video gives me some hope that I won't have to bail on this hobby. I'm a newbie, just 2 weeks in with my first telescope; a new Celestron Advanced VX mount and C6" OTA. Quite a learning curve. Finally got my setup working but the smile soon leaves my face when I remove the USB cable from my laptop and access the mount using the Celestron WiFi dongle; all but the Camera can be accessed. I don't have the ASI Air Pro (yet). I've been using the Celestron CPWI software that is ASCOM compatible. Over the laptop USB to Hand Controller connection I launch CPWI to setup alignment and then open SharpCap. But when I remove the USB connection and use the Celestron WiFi dongle (in AP Mode) the ZWOASI662MC camera can't be seen. Of course it can't be seen since the AVX doesn't have a USB port for the camera. The guide port has a guide port on the mount to connect to but the mount doesn't have any USB port for the camera. So according to your video, if I change gears and move to the ASI Air Pro there might be a way to be cable free. Thanks for the tip.

Awesome video Cody. Will you do a similar video using the new ASIAIR’s All Star Polar Alignment routine? I have very limited access to Polaris

Very helpful video Cody. I have the CGX and am on the way to automating it with Asiair plus. One challenge I have and have not found any videos on the topic is - how to fix the celestron focuser to a Edge 11 HD telescope which has a feathertouch focuser? - can you help or suggest something?
@AstroBlender3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if that’s possible. I don’t have much experience with FeatherTouch, so I can’t say I’d be of much help.

@@AstroBlender Thanks for the reply Cody. It seems like the Setso Senso2 focuser can do that. I will try it out and let you know.

Great summary, but what I don‘t see is the connectivity, e.g. does the guide scope plug into the ASI or the mount?, does the ASI plug into the mount Aux, or the guide scope port, etc. The whole connectivity would help in my opinion.

just received my Plus. use AVX and this helpful vid helped me out. thanks. how are you powering the set up? my dealer said the Celestron powertank lithium (not the Pro) would do. the ZWO instructions say the power outlets on the Plus are limited to 3A and not sufficient to power a mount?

Do you need a separate guide camera to use the guide feature in the asi air app?

You have to plug the ASI into the handset? I just ordered an ASI Air Plus.... more complicated than I expected. Should be fun, and thanks for making this video to bypass all the otherwise intense frustration. So nothing plugged into the guiding socket on the CGX mount, and everything is done via the handset?

Great videos. Just found this channel. Really like your work. Do you have a video showing how to connect a Canon lens to a dedicated Astro cam? I have the 183mc and a Sigma 135 art lens that I would like to work together. Thanks
@AstroBlender3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don’t have a video demonstrating that, sorry! It should be fairly straightforward though, ZWO sells the camera bayonet attachment and a ring to hold your camera too.

Nice video. Out of curiosity no quick align option or last align on the AVX? If there is then why you don't use that as rough start up point and do PA directly without doing star alignment via controller?

Cody, love the channel and thanks for this video. I've just got the CGX and 9.25" Edge HD, together with an ASI Air and this has proved invaluable to get it all talking together! Thanks. I'm having a lot of trouble focusing at the moment. Every time I move the scope the focus shifts widely and the EFA seems to go from one extreme to the other whilst trying to get good focus. I have the mirror lock screws at the back undone. I thought I only tightened those once focus was achieved, but when I do, the focus changes. Any hints?

Thanks for another excellent video. I commented on your earlier video on this topic that your use of a RASA must really help with the plate solve because you capture so many stars with the 8 inch aperture and low focal length. I have an SC 9.25 and an ASI 462 camera. I couldn't get plate solving to work due to the narrow field of view and the small sensor size on the ASI 462. Recently I added a 0.63 focal reducer and that helped substantially. Now plate solving works sometimes but only about one in five or ten attempts are successful. I'd welcome your thoughts on this. Can you do plate solving with a DLSR on the ASIAIR ?

Hi Codi, excellent video. One question: Does the ASIAir Pro platesolving work with your C11 + 0.7 focal reducer + Zwo Asi 2600 MM?

I don’t have a C11, but on the C9.25 I haven’t had an issue plate solving.

The first night my AVX slewed West instead of East to Vega. Major issue. Two things I did after stopping, I have the plus and DST may have been on so I switched to RTC, I deleted the ASI AIR APP and reloaded, however the hand control stuck in initializing. So I shut everything off again. Note, when the ASI AIR was turned back on it went to an update, later I checked the Lat/Lon and it was correct. I am now awaiting clear sky to try again.

Hello Cody . Great video thanks for uploading. 👍🙂 I would like to ask (I just ordered such a model and my mount too AVX) when is AsiAir taking a picture, actually taking a picture( like a dslr camera?), or, for example, a multitude of frames with a 2-minute exposure like the SharpCap system, ergo video? My other question. I can see the Polaris nicely when I stand north behind the house...but if the AsiAir rotates the tube 60 degrees in polar alignment, I see exactly one roof in position. Does AsiAir polar alignment work this way, or should it be solved differently? Thanks for the reply in advance too. I want a clear sky from Switzerland 🤞

Cody, Your videos are always my first source of trying to figure things out. I'm trying to follow your steps exactly, however, and am coming up to a dead end with the hand controller synchronization. I'm using and AVX mount and ASI Air Mini. Since I have the AVX Mount, I assume I don't need to turn on the Mount initially where you set the switch position. I'm starting at 3 minutes in to set marks to index position and then following everything else. The problem I have is that after turning on the ASI Air and then turning on the Mount, pressing Enter does not set the switch position and synch up the Mount with the ASI Air Mini. My ASI software does recognize the Mount, however, although I have been manually entering the time, date, and location manually into the hand controller since it's not receiving that data from the ASI . Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and keep up the great work!
