It’s especially laughable how much the Barnum effect plays into it because astrologists claim you have to look at your entire birth chart to fully understand yourself. So it makes it even more broadly applicable to everyone. Birth charts include 12 signs, some of them can be repeats of each other and sometimes they’re all different. It all depends on the placement of the planets at the time and place of your birth. For me, I have around 8 out of the 12 signs in my birth chart so that means I relate to 3/4 of the personality types, making it even more easy to believe in astrology and feel like it describes me because I identify with most of the personality traits of the signs. Self fulfilled prophecies and placebo effects also play a part in it. If someone tells you you’re a Scorpio sun and you are a young person who’s trying to find themself, understand themselves better and where they fit in society, want to feel unique but also want to fit in with a categorized community, astrology will look appealing. Regardless of if you strongly identify with your sign, if you learn more about it and start to like it and want to be more accepted into the community, you will start to recognize those traits in yourself because you’re actively seeking out those things every day, subtly alter your behavior to fit that type based off your new social community full of folk with the same personality and behavior directly influencing you. And you start to subconsciously ignore traits that don’t fit scorpios because you’re so hyperfocused on what has to do with you personally, not all that other unrelated stuff because you only really care about astrology because you’re self obsessed not because you think stars and planets have magical powers. Of course astrology is real if you don’t look into social dynamics, behavioral psychology and religious psychology. And if you strongly believe that it’s true and it works, you will be more likely to lean into this mindset and limit your behavior to your sign’s stereotypes, often enabling bad behavior because “you can’t help it, it’s just the way you are and you can’t change yourself”. If you try to self reflect and work on self improvement, that would mean breaking from the mold of your sign and breaking away from your entire narcissistic and comforting believe system that makes you feel proud about being a lazy toxic judgmental discriminatory irresponsible and hypocritical POS. Astrology has a fair share of normal people who are respectful to others and use it more casually to guide their lives or learn more about themselves but the most hardcore, true believing, influential and outspoken people it attracts are narcissists, and toxic and immature bullies who use it to discriminate against other people and feel special about themselves, while hiding behind a guise of astrology being a harmless fun casual spiritual hobby. It puts people into boxes of stereotypes that have nothing to actually do with their real personalities and tells them how to live their lives and who to date and who to be friends with and what career to go into. It even uses the principle of horoscopes to vaguely predict your future as if some prophet is giving revelations to the followers that will obviously come true because they aren’t specific enough. It fosters the simplification and generalization of ideas so people are less likely to be able to think in nuance and prefer simple polarized black and white ideas and views of the world. It is designed for fools with low critical thinking skills and a desire to have approval because of insecurity and because they put too much importance in dumb juvenile stuff like personality tests. It encourages tribalism, the hive mind and division which can be very harmful. It avoids criticism, science and different opinions, while still vehemently never providing refutations or proof and preaching that it is true, you just have to learn more about it and go down the self obsession and self fulfilled placebo effect prophecy to realize its true because it influences how you see yourself and how you behave. It only prefers ideas that reaffirm their beliefs. Those that call it out as false and call out the toxic bully behavior and ganging up on specific scapegoat signs from its most staunch followers get called sexist bigots and are promptly cancelled. Though there’s no central gathering place of worship, no central prophet or idol of worship, believers are free to come and leave the community as they please, and there’s no mandatory steep membership fee used to scam members into a money laundering scam, it psychologically functions very much like a cult. It’s just so normalized and mainstream and fun that people don’t see it like that. Most people think a cult is a compound of weirdos wearing the same clothes, sleeping with the same dude, and committing mass suicide that they don’t realize most cults don’t look like that stereotype and take all shape and form. It can be online, it can be a political party, it can be a fandom for a band or a tv show. If people study Steven Hassan’s principles on the BITE model they can better prepare themselves to recognize the signs of a cult so they avoid involving themselves with toxic groups. Cults operate using subtle psychological tactics to target emotionally vulnerable people by making them feel special, answering their difficult questions, making them feel loved and a part of something higher with a big group of people. It grooms people and molds them to think how they want them to think and alter their behavior to serve the cult. Independece, free thought, and criticism are dangerous so they are shunned behavior. It is easier to mold the ideas and actions of people than most expect-primarily young, open minded, lonely, lost and impressionable people. What astrology and its culture does to its followers is a prime example of thought and behavior modification. Of course it’s real if they’re using psychological tricks to make people think and behave like the sign they are told they are, which only reaffirms their belief in the validity of the magical powers of astrology.

Slight correction: stars do move, as they orbit their galaxy. However this movement is very difficult to perceive as for instance it takes the Sun 230 million years to complete one orbit around the Milky Way, and humans have only been around for like 0.13% of that time, and also since we orbit the Sun we are following its movement relative to the Milky Way and wouldn't be able to perceive the Sun moving in our frame of reference regardless. Astrology can destroy an otherwise stable relationship if it's introduced after the two people get together. I'm living this. Also, I believe,and its only my belief, but I bet it's factual in some strange way, that landlords check your sign because they know that a lot of dumb people will act in a way that typecasts them to their sign. For instance, nine times out of 10 a person who is a Pisces will exhibit an addictive personality. It's not because of Any astrological thing, it's because they use that as an excuse to be that way. If you're a landlord you don't want to rent to those people because they're going to value the things that serve them rather than taking the responsibility of paying the rent on time. They're out partying or some other b*******. It's kind of like oh you're a Scorpio that means you're a sex fiend. You don't know how many times I've heard that s*** I'm a Scorpio and I'm an upstanding member of society. More so than not. But if I was a dumbass I would be typecasting myself and my behavior into that sign. There's a lot of things that go on that are not necessarily astrological in knowing a person's sign.
