I have an idea, what if the expansion is something that introduces an “Ooze” that threatens the world, slowly expanding. It absorbs all power from platforms, is toxic to players and when sucked up the waste needs to be converted into something stable within a certain time otherwise it explodes and becomes ooze again. You can start cleaning up the world, find out what it is and where it comes from and maybe stop it for good. Could also introduce protective gear with special suits, special cleanup mods for vehicles, decoys to guide the ooze, higher tier stuff made with stabilized ooze etc…

Today I had a dream at the verge of awaking. I opened a "steam page" or some alternate game hub where all the games had their titles appear dynamically as your mouse hovered over them. One was named "Unconventions" or so, and some of the trailers and preview images had a whole base module with clear-glass walls showing the interior next to a spacecraft or something, with a unique astroneer suit/skin (nothing atypical,) another had a giant what i assume to be a back-view of a giant vehicle/crane bigger than the previous designs with the exo dynamics blue strip color scheme, another had an astroneer harvest some kind of purple-ish gas with the terrain-tool. I identified it as "astroneer" as I scrolled down one of their slogans which rhymed or spelt similarly to their original name, and there I saw some grayscale astroneer model. Now, it is a dream, (i woke up after,) but that led me to this moment posting this comment thinking; I just came here as of now because of it. It is the year 2024, not the 25th century where we run around with space vacuum cleaners sucking up compound and resin surface deposits, and it is during a time of strife, with the continuous deterioration of the western world's morale, the wars in the middle east and europe, and possibly the verge of a global catastrophe that negatively affects the world wide web (the latter being the least of our concerns.) I may not be concerned with the current media attention of Astroneer and its developers, and I hold something of a solemn view on this game because of it all. Even further back before May 2, another dream of mine had me in some astroneer-esque world/game in space but everything was rough polygonal shaped models, and simplified, like the past early access releases. And I was on a third-person-view of a space station. I came back here regarding the former, but I just wanted to share something.

Thanks; I didn't know about this roadmap including an expansion. Maybe the expansion will introduce new planets, or an additional solar system? When System Era was bought I already expected the game will be monitized via DLC, and of course suits, skins, color palettes etc. I don't care about the visuals and only have suits etc. earned via the LTE's. However, I 'support' System Era by buying the game for all platforms, all digital and physical versions (PC, PS4/5, Series X/S, Switch). I do all LTE's for all the platforms, even if there is no variation regarding the LTE's. Anyway Astroneer is the game I did spend far most time in in the last years (starting with the beta versions) and still love the game.

Another possibility is maybe were just overthinking because they used term "Expansion" instead of update, but it could be something big and they want to put extra emphisis on it? Like all the way back when they had something big it was everything changing into what we have today (like old planets, machines, shuttles, etc). EVERYTHING got changed and remodeled/re-texured into what we got goin on atm. Maybe just maybe its something like that again?

I figured Astroneer was pretty much dead so I'm excited for any new content, but I won't be paying more for cosmetics that I paid for the original game. Kind of worried about the buyout, I've seen it kill creativity and focus on $$$s so many times, but maybe this will be different. I'd be happy to pay for an Astroneer 2.0 game if they came out with a whole new solar system with new challenges.

@GoldenOuroboros10 ай бұрын
Hopefully the LTE's don't come with a pay system that increases your output otherwise it'll take 10x the amount of time it used to :P May also be using the term expansion as it will be expanding on the known system into something else? I have got no problem paying for some extra DLC content as I think they've done amazing with the game and all the updates over the past years, I'm a little on board with you regarding the shop and feeling it's a bit expensive for the cosmetic items though.
@OneLastMidnight10 ай бұрын
I hope the word "expansion" is being used for the game, and it's not a term for some item or resource in the game getting bigger. As for more money for a bunch of new content - take my card please. However, I wouldn't want to pay for content no bigger than some of the update content.
@stevejobs734610 ай бұрын
Have you thought about the fact that they also said they've released over 20 "free" updates so far? Kinda hints at the fact that the next one isn't going to be free??
@OneLastMidnight10 ай бұрын
Sure. The image I used in the video was from a few years back, and they tend to remind us from time-to-time that their content has been free. And I think the first 3 this year will be free also. The expansion however won't and I have nothing against System Era making money - love the game. Now is a question of price point and volume. $49 USD is very high for cosmetic content, and I hope they don't go crazy with the price for the new expansion.

@@lonniefennel4024 Agreed. I thought it definitely looked like a tree tapper for extracting sap/syrup. My thought was that it would act as a way to produce infinite resin passively. I'm trying to stay positive, however, I've wanted a point to collecting all these resources over the years and the LTEs haven't filled that. At this point, I feel like Astroneer is unfinished and am not inclined to spend more money for DLC - I don't care about cosmetics, suits, etc. If they add new content to the game, a point to it besides just gathering resources, then I'm interested. On a counterpoint, I recently fell into Occupy Mars The Game and see many similarities, including a lack of an end state. Sadly, I'm pretty pessimistic of System Era adding anything close to what I feel is lacking. Thanks for the update - looking forward to more!

>If they add new content to the game, a point to it besides just gathering resources, then I'm interested. Looks like it's pretty much going in the direction of an actual plot and questline, like with Awakenings, likely expanded further with the Expansion. A bit similar with how No Man's Sky has been going a lot harder on it's plotline recently, with Sentinels, Interceptor, and now Echoes, alongside the Expedition
@DanimalUpchurch10 ай бұрын
This is kinda where I'm stuck with it as far as long term play, you collect resources so you can collect more resources then collecting resources are easier, then you get to point that all resources are automated and all real cool, but then what. I'm still new, and been loving the game, but once I finish this "automate everything machine" on Atrox, what am I to do with all these resources. Yes, another solar system with goals would be great. Maybe more structures, a easier way to build/mold buildings, something, cause I feel like I'm about to hit a wall with what to do in the game.

I really hope it's more than a new solar system... they need to add something to the games core The game has so much to it but all that for nothing. How many games let you manipulate terrain, farm and mine in such an awesome and immersive way? I can't describe how much i enjoyed the engineering/ mining loop. I can only dream of bigger like Nms or Sc introducing this on a larger scale. However all this fun suddenly stops as soon as you unlocked all items which took abt 40 hours. After that there was no appeal to do anything... planets only for ressources will make them obsolete after you unlocked everything. So will a new solar system. There is no exploration in this game, no proper basebuilding, barely any dangers/hazards, no interaction... it feels so empty. Like you have sandbox and got the greatest shovel you could think of, but there barely any sand in the box.

I would rather buy a paid DLC than have this stupid shop with microtransaction. I really don't understand their reasoning behind it (besides money of course), especially not for an indie game.
@OneLastMidnight10 ай бұрын
Microtransactions are fine how they are using it. I mean, it's completely you choice because the items don't effect gameplay at all. It's the pay-to-win microtransaction games that give these type of purchases a bad name. I personally feel the price is to high for what you are buying. I'm sure if they reduced their price by 50% they would have gotten more purchases and maybe they wouldn't have had to sell the company.
@artxiom10 ай бұрын
@@OneLastMidnight It's not that it's not okay - there are for sure worse monetization practices in the game industry, it's more that it leaves a bad aftertaste and makes the game look worse than it is. This in turn puts people off and harms the reputation of the company, why would you risk that as an indie dev? You are selling a game for 20 bucks but then a bundle of cosmetics for 50? That's like saying: hey, the entire game (which has already a bunch of skins and colors included) is less worth than a few skins and colors. It just doesn't make any sense and no one understands that. By giving it a price tag you give it value and when it's completely inconsistent with the rest of your products it's bad - but more for the devs than anyone else.
