I keep sounding like a broken record here, but again the production-value of your videos is really really good. I thoroughly enjoy watching these astro-vlogs of yours. Thank you for taking the time to create them. All three of your images belong in a frame on a wall. They really help sell the scale and size of the Milky Way. I've been using the Gen 2 of the MSM rotator since 2020 and I absolutely love it to bits. It's small, portable and ridiculously quick and easy to set up. I do not recommend it for longer, heavier lenses (I've only used mine with a 16-35mm), but that's not what it is designed for either.

Those sand dunes are the ultimate stair masters, highest height being ~750 ft. We made a 500' hill and it was brutal. But the stars are sure bright. There is an observatory over the mountains east of the dunes in Westcliffe, Smokey Jack Observatory. Another place we like to go is Elevenmile Canyon Reservoir, west of Florissant. Watching you doing all that setup on the rock at South Crestone Lake would appear to be at a high risk of taking a mountain lake wash. East of the the Black Canyon, in the town of Gunnison, is the Gunnison Valley Observatory. We have not personally been to the observatory but have been north of that area up to Almont and Taylor River Reservoir, and Creste Butte. Lots of places to visit in the area, many, many miles of hiking trails. Safe travels! I really like the Sand Dune photo. Wow!

Nice video and some great shots, the hike up to the lake certainly looks worth it. I am loving my Nomad and here in the southern hemisphere (Aus) the phone polar alignment method is the goto most of the time with this method works well. Worth getting a phone bracket to just make it that little bit easier 😊.

Great video. I've just moved to a bortle 3 area of Scotland. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to my last location which was bortle 6. Nothing as good as where you were in the video. @@deltaastrophotography I grew up here, actually live in the house I was raised in. So I can take for granted the view a little..but never get tired of it. My wife is from Denver and not a day goes by that she is not in awe of the beauty here. I remember that windy night, bad luck there, its not a usual thing this time of year unless we have a storm moving through. Videos like yours were the inspiration to purchase my scope and start deep sky astro. I really need to get back to Milky Way photography too...but my photography business keeps my busy.

Great images! I wish camera technology had been where it is now, when I lived in Colorado. My brother and I backpacked almost every month, regardless of the weather. Digital cameras were in their very early days even as I moved away from there. If you find yourself going there again. Feel free to contact me, because I have over 60 treks under my belt. I can tell you some good places to go. One place I'll tell you about now, because you were so very close to it already - Blanca Peak, one of the tallest of the 14ers. You would have likely driven right by it, depending on your route to the Sand Dunes. It looks completely uninspiring and barren from the south. However, if you approach it from the north, you go into its glacier bowl, and it's very lush and beautiful. Probably less than 15 minutes from the trailhead, you get a great view, and it's almost directly south, so you would have an incredible Milky Way composition. Getting that shot is on my bucket list. If you take the trail up to Lily Lake, which isn't a hard hike, then you get an impressive southeastern view with Blanca Peak just right in your face. That would make an awesome pano shot at the right time of year. The drive to the trailhead gets kinda bumpy toward the end of the road, so you gotta have at least a town SUV, if not a full-fledged Jeep, Hummer or 4WD truck. There are places you could park and just walk the road if you had to, and I believe there's a connecting trail. You would want to search for the Lily Lake/Huerfano Creek Trailhead. If you go to Lily Lake and camp just beneath it, chances are pretty good you'll encounter some bighorn sheep. We saw a couple of herds of them when we camped there. Great to see another video. Keep 'em coming.

I know you shoot with the Canon 6D as well. Does your 6D generate hot pixels when used in Warner conditions as well?

Yes the hot pixels are pretty bad. My stacking software usually removes them from my sky images. For the foreground photos, I run the RAW files through Adobe's AI noise reduction and it gets rid of nearly all of them. I use the spot removal tool on any that might be left.

Newbie here, I have a question. Do you need to polar align every shot?

@@marvinvaughnsantos4064 You only need to polar align once. If you move or bump your tripod you will have to polar align again. Also sometimes I polar align before I put my camera on the tracker and then check it again after I add the camera.
